“Wonderful stay at Maison La Chapeliere”
Reviewed 13 June 2014

We stayed from Sunday until today. From the moment we arrived, tired from our 9 hour drive, Claude treated us wonderfully. A lovely bottle of wine was waiting for us.

In the morning Claude cooked us the most tasty breakfasts. Enjoyed with cappuccino.

The house was impeccably clean and very comfortable and had everything that we needed. The location could not have been better. A very short walk away from the almost 400 stairs up to the Citadel(yes, we did it) :) and a ten minute walk to old town. Our car remained parked for almost the whole time that we were there.

We loved the fact that we had the whole house to ourselves. This along with Claude's hospitality, made us feel like we were at home.

Room Tip: The bedroom off of the kitchen is the largest, quietest and is nice and cool.

This place is amazing! The house has a surprisingly nice personality and very clean!
Our host welcomed us with charming French smile and a bottle of delicious wine.
We felt in love with Claude’s cooking. It was delicious! He made three breakfasts for us and each next one was even more delicious than previous one.
Thank you Claude from Yelena, Vladimir and family!

My family and I have stayed here twice, and intend to return. We spent 3 weeks here in the summer of 2012, and just returned from a 4-day visit for winter Carnaval. (Yes, Quebec really is a year-round party.) The house is perfect for all seasons: 3 bedrooms, a wonderful kitchen, a hot tub on the roof deck, and even a working player piano. There's a mud room area on the ground floor that we used for bicycles in the summer and skis and boots in the winter. It's private and quiet, but close to everything.

If you are looking for a workout, the house is at the foot of the Cap Blanc staircase to the Plains of Abraham. I counted 394 stairs. But don't worry - you can also walk a few blocks to Petit Champlain and take the funiculaire right into old Quebec.

As others have pointed out, it's really Claude that makes the place special. He provides great advice on restaurants, skiing, and other activities. His breakfasts are a feast for both the mouth and the eye. As he cooked, he helped us practice our French. At the same time, my wife and daughter were helping him practice Spanish. The French lessons even continued over Skype. Claude is a great host and a special person. I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else in Quebec.

Claude, a contractor by trade, purchased the 150 year old house from a hatmaker and then fully renovated it himself, transforming it into Maison La Chapeliere. Hats adorning the walls on every level attest to its charming history. When you book Maison La Chapeliere you have the entire house to yourselves. Stone walls, a fully modernized kitchen with large dining area, three bedrooms, each with their own bathroom made it a wonderful home away from home for us and the friends we were travelling with. Claude was a wonderful, generous host, arriving every morning during our 4 day stay to whip up delicious gourmet breakfasts as appealing to the eye as they were to the palate. If you're driving, there's convenient parking right across from the house, but La Chapeliere is located just outside the old walled city so it's an easy walk to the sights and sounds of old Quebec. When we come back to Quebec, we'll definitely be calling Claude, and we'll feel like we're coming home! Merci Claude!! Sue and Denny, Toronto, Ontario

Room Tip: The room off the kitchen area is the largest and has a TV.

We were very pleasantly surprised by this charming B&B. it far exceeded expectations. Although we weren't in the old city, the location is very convenient. It's a short walk to an area of restaurants and artisanal shops leading up to the old city. Claude is a delightful host. Not only is he charming and accommodating (he kindly adjusted his recipes to be non-lactose), but he is also a fabulous cook and has a great sense of joie de vivre. He wowed us with his beautifully presented and delicious breakfast dishes. He is a great ambassador for Quebec City. Such a warm and friendly man! We looked forward to his jaunty steps coming upstairs every morning signalling the start of our days. We really enjoyed the luxury of a fully equipped kitchen too so we could enjoy the bounty of food bought locally. The rooms were comfortable and very clean. We would definitely stay at la Chapelière again. Ray and Veronica. Waterloo. Ontario

If you're looking for a home away from home, then La Chapeliere is the place for you. This amazingly restored house provides a welcome respite from each day's exciting outing in Quebec City. The list of the amazing features to this stunning B&B could go on and on: hot tub on the roof deck overlooking the breath-taking St. Lawrence seaway, breakfasts cooked by your host (Claude) that are fit for royalty, short walks to restaurants/pool/stores/old town, the up-to-date kitchen that you can use during your stay, etc. etc. etc.

Finally, there's Claude - your host. He is one of the most charming, entertaining, and informative people you will meet in all of Quebec (and that's saying something!). Claude took such amazing care of my family while we were at La Chapeliere that we were overwhelmed by his generosity. We will return one day to Quebec and we will definitely be staying at La Chapeliere - and one of the main reasons we'll do so is to be able to hang out with Claude some more.

Maison La Chapeliere is a wonderfully restored home with modern appliances. The best part of our stay was Claude. He was a wonderful host and made you feel that you are part of his family. He served gourmet breakfasts and recommended activities. He had the ability to relate incredibly well with our teens as well as grandparents.

The bedrooms provided privacy and separate baths for our extended family. This home exemplifies that the kitchen is the heart of the home. He remodeled to keep the character of the home. It was fun having the grill and hot tub on the rooftop. He saw to every detail a traveler could wish for.
