Me and my partner stumbled across this lovely hotel on our way through to Toronto.

For its location the $70 a night price tag was great! The whole building had wonderful character and charm, even down to the crooked staircase.

I would definitely recommend this place, receptionist was great and parking was easy and secure for a reasonable $14 for 24 hours.

Let's start by saying that the people of old Quebec are wonderful! Even tolerated my feeble attempts are high school French. We had a great time there. The hotel is what I'd expect of a not very expensive lodging - we paid around $135 USD. The bed was a bit hard, but not that bad. The room itself is small, think of 7x9ft and a bathroom. Simple, clean, no luxuries. Just fine, actually because of the location. Just don't believe the pictures on the brochure or website. The rooms aren't that nice, but they're just fine if you would like to experience "Quebec" and not stay in another US-like hotel..

Room Tip: rooms are at the front building and in the rear. The rear is quieter, but the rooms are not as nice...

My family and I just returned from visiting the province of Quebec. Yes... start with Quebec City!! And if you only have time to visit one city, definitely visit Quebec City. It is the most European city we visited (we also went to Montreal, Ottawa, Trois Riviere, Saint Saveur, Saint Adele, and other smaller towns). Quebec City has a great history, amazing restaurants and many activities to do. It is also the location of the Governor's second home, inside the Citadel. Regarding parking, we accidentally came upon a parking lot while we were driving around the city that is the answer to most people's parking issues. The cost was only $7 for up to 12 hours, and $12 for up to 24 hours. The machine gives you a receipt stating the time that your ticket expires, for you to place on your windshield, so you could even go in and out of the parking lot and use the same ticket if it is still valid, assuming that there is a spot available when you return. To be assured a parking spot, get there by 10:00 a.m. in the summer months. For those of you staying in a little auberge downtown that does not have a parking lot, this could be the answer. The parking lot is located right outside of the wall of the city, in between the Citadel and the Plains of Abraham museum. It is only a 5 minute walk from the parking lot to the iconic Frontenac Hotel and the center of the city. It made our 4 days in Quebec City very easy. We also have to recommend doing the bus tour of the Plains of Abraham and visiting the martello tour.

My wife and i just returned for a stay in quebec city and we stayed at the Hotel Le Cavalier. The hotel is located on St Louis Street within the old city and it is surrounded by a number of excellent restaurants. We were were only a two minute walk to the Hotel Frontenac. This trip was at the last minute and we were able to secure a room with a call from a parking garage after reaching the city. The room was exactly as promised.

Room Tip: try to get a room facing the cannon ball :)

This is in the old city, which is quite convenient, but the price is not really great value for the quality of hotel. This is the sort of place that would be less than 50 dollars a night if it were in, say...Fargo, North Dakota. But it's not, it's in Vieux-Quebec, so the price is more like 170+ if you want two beds. The entrance is in a gift shop, which is, let's just say, interesting. Service was friendly and somewhat helpful but given the gift-shop reception you don't get the same kind of advice and service you might at a guest house or hotel with a proper reception. The hotel room itself was quaint and old-fashioned, but clean and quite large. Overall, you have to factor in the location in the old city. I might stay here again. I have no complaints. It offers completely adequate accomodations.

For a property within the walls of Old Québec, and so well-situated near everything, this hotel is reasonably priced. As is the case with many old properties here, the room was oddly arranged and decorated (three huge mirrors on the walls, the fold-out sofa touches the other two beds when folded out--blocking the way either to the door or the bathroom), but the room was clean, A/C worked perfectly, the beds were comfortable, and the shower was great (but HOT - be careful!). The view was very nice, looking down on busy rue St-Louis, but it was nonetheless very quiet, so sleeping was no problem. Minor drawbacks - the toilet handle had to be held down for a complete flush, and the floor was a little uneven. The reception folks were very nice and helpful, though as others have said, reception closes when the shop does, and I'm actually not sure what you do if there's a problem with the room in the middle of the night. Breakfast is NOT included.

However, the parking, though convenient, was confusing and I wish I had read Pierre L's review more carefully before we got there. You get a discount for buying parking tickets at the hotel ($14 instead of $22 for 24 hours) and the parking is indoors and very convenient to the hotel, BUT - it's not a garage where you can take the car in and out. If you leave the garage, you've effectively used up one of your tickets. So if you park at 4 pm with your first-day ticket and you decide to drive somewhere outside the old city for dinner at 6 pm, you'll use up that first-day ticket. When you come back you have to use a new ticket. Confused yet? If you're just going to leave your car the entire time in the garage, it will be fine for you, and of course that's possible in the old city. (When we figured out this parking issue we were, ironically, looking for a restaurant our last night there that was less expensive and better-reviewed in TripAdvisor than the ones near the hotel!) Next time I will be looking for a place with a more flexible parking situation.

Overall, a good place to stay in the Old City, and good for a group of 3 people who each wanted her own bed!

Room Tip: The booking site I used didn't mention that some (or at least one of the) rooms had a sofa-bed...

If you want to walk all over old town you can do it from here. The hotel is old, very old. The stairs (no elevator) tilt and the carpet is worn. But our room was spacious and clean right on the Main Street, 1 block from the Hotel Frontenac. The room had character. The beds were comfortable. While we were there it poured and we had a great time leaning out the window watching the weather. There was an abundance of doors in our room which we thought was fun. Most led nowhere. There is a small fridge in the bathroom. There was also an air conditioner.
