“Perfect stay, the perfect choice for our one night visit!”
Reviewed 1 June 2014

After poring over TA reviews, I booked our stop in Quebec City at Place D'Armes. We normally stay at chains (Hilton, Hyatt, Omni, Sheraton/Westin), but wanted to be in the heart of things, and the reviews were so great, we did our first 'boutique' type hotel. It was exactly what we wanted - it had charm, fabulous location, and was so warm and personal, but also had all the conveniences, and some very up to date touches. The attention began before we arrived with a personal email, then upon arrival, Noel very quickly checked us in, stored our bags and in minutes had the valet (a very pleasant and polite young man), take our car, so we were free to explore after very easily locating the hotel as soon as we pulled into Old Quebec (right across the Chateau Frontenac, which we could see from our room!). We also were upgraded to a junior suite (rm 1) which was wonderful. Noel and everyone else we encountered go out of their way to make things perfect. Advice on where to explore and restaurants was spot on. We were sad to leave the next day! Having never been to the city before, we felt like we couldn't have had a better hotel experience!

This was my second year in a row at this Auberge and I didn't think it could get better but it did! I upgraded to the junior suite was top shelf. Ultra-modern sink and shower (so hip and cool!), the bed was super-comfortable, the TV was a new Samsung smart TV so I could watch Netflix, and there was no charge for the internet service (I love Canada- the Americans haven't figured the latter out yet!). The location is perfect, the staff is the same year over year so I know they treat them well. Professional and helpful, always smiling...! The valets are just terrific- strong, hard-working, and did I mention good looking too? (Sorry to embarrass you guys!). And Le Pain Beni- their resto...? I'll just have to write a separate review. There isn't one thing I'd change about this terrific place. I sleep like a baby when I'm at the Auberge. I've already booked for Christmas week which will be a first.

I cannot express how wonderful this establishment is in terms of availability, cleanliness, hospitality. I have absolutely no negative remarks, only praise for the extremely competent and friendly desk staff. The hostel was easy to find inside the old city and centrally located to all attractions. I will most certainly book again on our return visit.

Room Tip: ask for a room on the lower level overlooking the chateau. stairs are brutal at the end of the day...

We are leaving here today. Our stay has been wonderful, every member of staff is enthusiastic and welcoming, the rooms are quirky, very comfortable and beautifully clean. The bathroom was fabulous. The area is perfect and vibrant by day and early evening but quiet a night for a great sleep. The food at pain beni is lovely, breakfast great. There is an ATM at the end of the rue and a lovely little epicerie for a bottle of wine to sit and watch the world go by - can't wait to return to Wonderful Quebec.

To start, the hotel is in a wonderful location. The street itself is charming. We walked all over Vieux Quebec and often stopped back at the hotel to pick something up or drop things off. Our room was exactly what I hoped it would be based on the advertised pictures. It had sloped ceilings and a stone wall. The room was small, but the space was very efficiently used. It was also very quiet. The included breakfast was delightful, with generous helpings. There was a bit of a bed-and-breakfast feel during the morning meal, and we got to know some of the other guests. I recommend trying the restaurant for dinner as well. Our one meal we ate there was wonderful. The front desk staff was very helpful and friendly. We would stay there again.

Staying at this beautifully restored hotel would justify high ratings. But, adding the incredible care and treatment by staff makes the experience completely outstanding. Our beautiful room, with its stone and brick walls and its eclectic furnishings set the mood for the exploration of Old Quebec. The charming, friendly and well trained staff indulged and encouraged our amateur efforts to speak our limited vocabulary of French. Anne, at the front desk, makes you feel right and home and makes you want to return for another visit which we will. She noted that we were vegans so that when we went to the restaurant for dinner, Jean Francois immediately asked us if we would like a "surprise" for dinner. He consulted with the chef and arranged for a start to finish vegan menu for us. Kudos to the chef and staff for making such tasty dishes with a beautiful presentation. It was so good, we returned the next night for another "surprise" just as magnificent as the first. Jean Francois had overheard that I was craving pomme frites. Atop our entree were the most delicious thinly sliced sweet potato fries we've ever had. I hope he forgives my husband for continually teasing him by speaking words in Spanish. It was a great experience for our short two night stay. We shall return.

Great location and beautiful hotel. The rooms are renovated to modern amenities and standards yet has all the old furnishings and decor to blend with the historic view of the cathedral and buildings surrounding it. Hot breakfast included with the hotel and choice of breakfast items was just perfect. Large rooms with a nice view and fireplace just made it perfect....wish I had more than a day to spend at this place. Will definitely spend more days next time.
