“Nice hotel, Good location, reasonable price.... Room a little small, though”
Reviewed 26 September 2007

We picked this hotel based on reviews here and on price. We payed $195 booking directly through the hotel's web site. The hotel was as expected.... Great location, nice room. We were surprised by the breakfast... It was better than expected. Very complete breakfast including pastries, cheeses, fruit of different varieties, coffee (espresso, capuchino, etc..), cereal, yogurt, etc... We had a great stay and would stay here again. My only gripe, which is a minor one, was the room size. I found it to be a little small. Specially considering we payed for the "superior" room. I can't imagine how the regular room is!! The bathroom in the room was excellent, however. Very clean and stylish. Highly recommended if you don't mind a "smallish" room.

Paid less by booking online through the hotel web site than by using one of the internet booking companies.

What an incredible boutique hotel! It is located just blocks from everything of interest to visitors to the Old Quebec city area. We couldn't have been happier with our selection of this hotel. EVERYTHING is aesthetically stunning and if you appreciate cutting edge design then you will be in heaven in this hotel.

Although it does not have a full service restaurant on site it does have a nice bar, full cafe and they provide a complimentary expanded continental type breakfast in the spacious dining area.

Parking: the narrow streets of old Quebec city limit the availability of onsite parking lots but there is metered street parking available and the hotel does provide complimentary valet parking.

We would definitely return to this hotel. It is exactly what we were looking for.

On September 6th, six people in our family checked into Hotel 71 for a three night stay. It was as good, if not better, than what I had read in previous reviews. The hotel personnel were all helpful and obliging. Our room with a king bed and large bath had a wonderful view of the river. The mattress was very comfortable and the 7th floor was extremely quiet and made for a good nights' sleep. We especially liked the lovely breakfast buffet and the all day coffee or tea. The location is very convenient to various museums, art galleries and wonderful restaurants. We'd definitely recommend it to our friends and acquaintances.

This is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. Location is perfect. Close to everything, but no hassle of noise, congestion, etc. The room was great. A superior room. Large, fabulouse bed, shower, view. We ordered a DVD from the front desk and they delivered it to the room in 5 minutes with a bag of fresh popped corn. It was still hot. All for $5.00. Now that is what I call service. Free coffee andexpress and internet. Wonderful staff.
Would highly recommend. Great price too. We travel a lot and stay at nice hotels. One of the best !!!!.

We decided on Hotel71 after reading the reviews on TripAdvisor and this hotel really delivered. We stayed in a Superior Plus room on the 4th floor. The room was great; big windows facing the street, trendy interior, excellent bed and a great bathroom; very calming & relaxing. Check-in was smooth and luggage & parking was immediately taken care off (valet $18 a day). The concierge gave us a good explanation of the area and provided excellent restaurant recommendations (nearby restaurant TOAST! is amazing but book ahead!). The hotels atmosphere is warm, modern & sophisticated - we loved the interior design & architecture. We relaxed in the lobby a couple of times to enjoy a complimentary espresso. The cafe is a nice touch and the cafe staff is great. The hotel is centrally located & close to everything you want to see in Quebec city. The hotel staff is amazing and service is incredible; nothing is too much and they do take ownership to resolve any issue. If you plan to enjoy the continental breakfast, don't wait until 9:30 as they do run out of items.

  • Liked — A lot but the staff made our stay very special
  • Disliked — Running out of breakfast items as we don't like to rush to breakfast on a holiday

Stayed at 71 Hotel for a weekend trip based on the favourable reviews on this website and at $205CAD per night, we were content. The small boutique hotel is conveniently located in the quaint old section of the city. Lots of high-quality restaurants within a block radius and the Musee de la Civilisation is right next door (the majority of the shops nearby are either art galleries or souvenir shops so go elsewhere for clothes shopping). I have no complaints about the staff as they were friendly and attentive. Our loft-like room on the 4th floor had partial views of the river and the roof of the museum. The room was spacious, with hardwood floors and high ceilings, and while some might classify the décor as spartan, I thought it was clean and simple. The mattress probably wasn’t as supportive as we would have liked, but the linens/pillows were soft and the down comforter was so thick and fluffy, I imagine it would be wonderful to snuggle into during the wintertime. The bathroom was modern, extremely clean, the water pressure was firm and we never had a problem with lack of hot water. The bath towels were a little on the small and rough side, but it didn’t bother us at all. They provide Gilchrist & Soames products and I especially liked the bar soap that exfoliates. Complimentary breakfast is served until 11:00am and it includes specialty coffee drinks (espressos, lattes, au laits, etc.) as well as your basic spread of croissants pastries, breads, cereals, yogurts, cheeses and fruits. Wireless internet access was free, although it expired every four hours so you had to call the front desk for a new user ID and password. I can’t comment on the gym because we never used it, but we walked an average of 4 miles each day we were there (not to mention the hundreds of steps we climbed) so why would you need it?

I stayed at this hotel for a 4-night getaway with my husband. We loved the location - this part of the lower town is not overrun with tacky tourist shops, has great restaurants and is walking distance from everything. We had a very stylish superior room with high ceilings, a view of the river and a great rainhead shower. Breakfast was excellent and the complimentary coffee and tea all day was brilliant! There were a few minor stumbles - not enough hangers in the room and a problem with the sink drainage, which were not attended to during our stay despite our immediate request to the front desk, but the overall stay was so enjoyable that this did not really bother us. We ate in some outstanding neighborhood restaurants including Le Cochon Dingue, Toast and Panache (incredible!) All in all, a great getaway to a beautiful and restful hotel.
