A beautifully renovated century-old home with well-appointed rooms and a friendly, helpful host located right in the middle of fun. Sound too good to be true? We thought so...until we arrived at the Gîte aux deux Lions.

Jean-François met us outside the inn, showed us our parking spot and ushered us into our room - and what a room! Calming, tastefully decorated and very quiet, it was a haven for weary travellers such as ourselves (after an 8+ hour drive from Toronto).

There is a charming street filled with restaurants, fromageries and boutiques just a block away for those who wish to be homebodies the first night. We bought some wine and cheese and sat out on the second-floor terrace, watching the people go by. After a great sleep, we walked to the gates of Quebec City and were in the Upper Town within about 10 minutes. This made the location of the Gîte aux deux Lions absolutely perfect: an easy walk to and from all the attractions of the Old City and yet out of the way of the traffic flow coming and going. And, as has been mentioned here before, the "tips" on what to do in the area were spot-on. On our host's recommendation, we went to Île d'Orléans and the Parc de la Chute-Montmorency before we left and they were spectacular trips - especially with the fall colours just coming out.

The breakfasts were delicious, the company was charming, the room (we stayed in the "Montcalm") was large and yet cozy, the neighbourhood was funky and yet elegant... it was an absolutely perfect getaway. We chose this B&B specifically because so many people had raved about it and it lived up to all of its advance billing - and actually surpassed it, in my opinion. We will most definitely return in the near future - and this time we will probably book the Suite Vieux-Québec for a special treat!

Salut, Jean-François, et merci des vacances merveilleuses.

- Steve and Sarah, Toronto

We've just returned from a memorable trip to Montreal and Quebec City. One of the highlights of the trip for us was our stay at the Gite aux deux Lions B & B. The house itself is beautifully renovated and in a great location. At first I was disappointed by the location because it was farther from the Old City than I thought it would be, however, that disappointment soon turned into gratitude after exploring the charming neighborhood on Cartier Street only a block and a half away. Jean Francois, the very gracious and hospitable owner said, "You need to experience where the real people live." And we did just that. Our trips into the Old City and touring around the area were the touristy things we did, but we felt like we "lived" on Cartier Street. It has not been overtaken by boutiques and tourist traps, but is a real neighborhood with a market, drugstore, wine store, hair salon, dry cleaners ,the ubiquitous restaurants and a few clothing shops. Jean Francois recommended some fine restaurants and we discovered many others. What a pleasant thing for Americans who drive our cars everywhere to be able to walk 2 blocks and be in a lively street atmosphere whether we were looking to relax with a cup of cappucino or glass of wine or find the evening meal. Everyone there speaks French, but when they realized we did not, they would rapidly switch to English. Another favorite about staying at Gite aux deux Lions was the very relaxed atmosphere at breakfast....Jean Francois put everyone at ease with his charming sense of humor and eagerness to please. We lingered over breakfast just so we could visit with the other guests who were from various Canadian Provinces and other countries as well. We got tips about things to do and not to do from those who were ending their stay. Our stay lasted 5 nights and the service, food and friendly atmosphere were consistently of high quality. In fact, Jean Francois is not used to people staying that long and was concerned that we would have to repeat a breakfast, so on our last day he went out of his way to make us a special "last day" ham and cheese omlette!! So as you can see, we highly recommend this little B&B in Quebec City!

We had the good fortune and pleasure of staying 4 nights in Jean-Francois's delightful suite in mid sept. It was top class and very comfortable. A very good location for Cartier st. with its first class rest. and pubs!! It is also close to the walled city, making it an ideal location. The breakfasts were terrific and varied .Jean-Francois has a great sense of humour and proved to be extremely knowledgeable and very helpful. Highly recommended.

Jean-Francois , the owner and manager, is a great representative of the area and great host.

The suite was very clean and all details are watched closely by Jean-Francois . His restaurant recommendations were top notch and I suggest you listen to him.

This area is perfect and is the place to stay. It's only a few minutes walk to the old city but you may like this area even more. He also affords free parking.

His breakfasts were great too...I will be going back soon.
