“Perfect location and friendly staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 July 2013

A friend and I stopped for a couple of nights in Quebec City and were pleased with our accommodations at Le Champlain Hotel. Every single staff person we came into contact with was as helpful as anyone could hope for. The room was comfortable, though the bed could use updating. Some rooms offer a spectacular view of the city. We appreciated having a hotel with air conditioning, as many in QC do not, and it was warm and humid during our stay. We recommend it and would stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view, as some rooms face a brick wall. It'd be better if the hotel would...

Excellent location, quiet street, under 10 minutes walking from most everything. Staff were outstanding, always welcoming and willing to assist. Nice breakfast each morning with excellent staff in attendance.

The hotel is in a great location, in the old city of Quebec. Despite all the activity going on late at night in the city, inside the hotel it was nice and quiet. Our room was comfortable and clean. Staff were terrific and very helpful in giving directions and recommending activities.

We spent a quiet weekend in Quebec city and we were looking forward to walking around the Vieux-Québec. The location of the hotel could not have been better to do that. It's located right in the Vieux-Québec and by only walking a few minutes, you have access to everything you can possibly think of: touristic attractions, restaurants, shops, etc.

To top it off, the staff was extremely friendly, very patient and professional.

The hotel itself is beautiful and very clean. We had a quaint old-style hotel room facing the street. At night, we could hear the horse-carriage which made us feel like we were really back in 1642...! There's a coffee machine in the lobby, to which the guests have access to free coffee/cappuccino/latte all day. The breakfast is simple, but very good and fresh. A very nice lady that works there makes sure that the guests have everything they need throughout the breakfast hours.

Room Tip: We personally loved our room which faced the street. Not that much noise as the hotel is in a relati...

We stayed at the Le Champlain Hotel for our first trip to Quebec City. We spent 2 nights here and the service, location, and room were amazing. The room was well furnished and comfy. The best part of this was the free wifi and a designated area to park our car. We rarely had to drive around unless we were leaving Old Quebec City. For many first timers to Quebec City, this hotel will allow you to be in a prime location for walking with many great restaurants a few blocks away if you didn't want to try out the in-house restaurant at the hotel. We only had to use our car to drive to a restaurant out of the city. The room pricing was also good deal especially being in the center of Old Quebec City. Definitely a hotel I will stay at again if in Quebec City. Overall a perfect weight between managing your budget, time, location, and experience.

Room Tip: Ironing boards and irons are next to the door right when you open the door to the maintenance stairw...

Rue St Anne is in a great location for exploring old Quebec town, just a short hill from shopping and restaurants, a small walk to the Citadel and a decent stroll to the old port (tip - take the cable car down to the old port for $2.25)

The hotel itself is very European; they have done a lot with the size, and it doesn't feel too cramped. I've seen some of the reviews on here about the hotel being old and dirty. To clarify - old does not mean dirty! (have you ever been to Rome, Paris etc.?) old, yes - dirty, no... Travellers need to realise that if you want to stay in the old parts of an old city, then the buildings are going to be - voila - old! If you want to stay at the new hotels - then go downtown.

The staff were very friendly, in both French and English so no worries if you don't speak French. Breakfast can be a bit hectic as the room is small and gets very busy, and there is no restaurant in the evening (but being so close to lots of restaurants, why would you eat in the hotel?)

The rooms themselves were very nice and clean, with plenty of space. You could sometimes hear some noise from outside, but we were staying in the heart of the old town during festival week and besides - it was never an issue.

One issue is limited parking, so book your parking when you book your stay. We booked on Hotels.com and it didn't give us the option, so call ahead and book it otherwise you will need to park in a parkade, about 10 min walk away.

In summary - we really liked the hotel and would stay again (with booked parking!)

Room Tip: All rooms seem to be about the same, but if you need parking book it in advance!

Fesh made breakfast foods including crepes and fresh local cheese. Walking distance for anywhere! We were there during Festival (10 stages, 300 acts including Bruno Mars, Rush, etc) with thousands and thousands of tourists. The hotel is about a block from the main street but there are no stores or restaurants next to it. In other words, it was quiet despite being less than a few minutes walking distance from where all the action was. The rooms are large, clean, and well kept and the service excellent. I see some reviews that the hotel was dirty etc? No clue when those people stayed as nothing could be further from the truth. Sitting area was bright and modern. Exterior was "historic" and not "dirty". If you want to be just a number in a room in a 10 storey hotel do not come. If you want "class" and warmth .... and always be greeted by friendly staff then reserve now.
