Our family stayed at the Le Champlain for 3 nights in May. We booked the 2 queen suite which was the perfect size room. The room was spacious and clean. The bathroom looked newly renovated and the water pressure in the shower was powerful. The full length mirror which was hiding in the closet could have been placed in a more convenient location in the room. The bed comfort was ok. We had a view of the Chateau Frontenac which is lit up at night. All hotel staff we encountered were friendly and helpful answering our questions. Conversing in English was not a problem. All the sites were within walking distance. You could tell the food served at the complimentary breakfast buffet was made fresh on site. There was good variety. I loved the crepes especially. There was access to the espresso machine 24/7. Be patient waiting for an elevator because there is only 1.
I would not hestiate to book the Le Champlain again if staying in Quebec city.

My husband and I visited Quebec City for the first time to celebrate our 25th anniversary. We booked a standard room at Le Champlain. Upon arrival, we were surprised to receive a free upgrade to their junior suite with a fireplace, Jacuzzi and bottle of champagne! Our room was large and comfortable with a king size bed and a view to Saint Anne. The hotel is within walking distance to so many restaurants and sites in the old city. The free breakfasts were a treat - we loved the selection most especially the crepes and bread pudding - yum! I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in QC - we so enjoyed our visit and hope to return again.

Our family of four spent three nights at this hotel between Christmas and New Year's Day. Our suite had two queen size beds, was well furnished, very clean and had a view of the nuns' garden as well as the Château Frontenac. The price difference for the suite was totally worth it. Breakfast is included in the price of the room and is absolutely delicious. They also have a coffee machine where you can get all sorts of coffees and some hot chocolate, 24 hours a day. Wi-Fi is free but didn't work so well in our room. Not a big deal though.

A few things you should know if you want to book this hotel.
- There are very few parking spots and they are very tight. If you want one, make sure you request it at the time of reservation. The other option is to use public parking nearby.
- This is not a fancy hotel with a grandiose lobby, a pool, a spa, etc. If that's what you're looking for, then this is not the place for you.
- Location is very convenient. You can walk anywhere in Old Quebec City in about 10-15 minutes maximum.
- Every staff member we dealt with was very kind and helpful.

We were extremely satisfied of our stay at this hotel. We definitely would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone who is look for a nice charming place to stay when they are in Old Quebec City.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a few of the Château Frontenac.

My husband and I spend a night at Hotel Champlain and had a fantastic two days in old Quebec city. The hotel is right in old Quebec city and easy walking to everything. We had booked a deal through travel zoo and it included a 3 course supper which was very good. This was an upgraded room which had a fireplace, Jacuzzi, couch, bottle of wine. The continental breakfast was the best I ever had. Cheeses, crepes, fresh fruit, specialty coffee's. We would definitely come back here. We did pay for the parking which is tight in old Quebec city.

Overview:

My girlfriend and I loved our stay at le Champlain and would definitely go back. We arrived on a rainy week-end and were thrilled with the room. We chose the junior suite with a Jacuzzi, which was wonderful – should you book this room, remember to bring bubble bath (tip: should you forget, a small amount of the shower gel seemed to do the trick)! The third floor offered a small view of the city, but more importantly, wasn’t facing any other windows for people to peek out of. We didn’t hear the neighbors at all. There is a small but nice breakfast available each morning with toast/bagels/croissants, fruits, quiches, and small muffins. There is a fantastic little espresso machine available all hours that makes your choice of coffees, and if you aren’t a coffee-drinker, it also offered hot chocolate. It was kind of perfect.

The Extras:

The WIFI worked without issue during our stay, and the room had a small radio to plug our iPod into, as well as a DVD player. The people at the front desk were very friendly at all hours of the day, throughout our stay and were fluent in English and French. Also, while the parking lot is tiny, it is locked at night which added peace of mind. When you get your room key – yes an actual key, not those annoying key cards that only work sometimes – they also provide a front door key to let yourself in afterhours, which we thought was a nice touch. We had the king size bed, and I think it’s worth stating that the mattress and sheets were high-end and wonderful.

Location:

We used Trip Advisor extensively to plan what restaurants and pubs to visit during our stay and were thrilled to discover that everything was between a 3-15 minute walk. Old Quebec city is a beautifully preserved example of what the first North American cities looked like. Cobble stone streets, old stone buildings, churches and the grand hotel Frontenac are all located at the top of a hill overlooking the river and the valley below. Champlain hotel is right in the middle of all the fun stuff. It’s a walking city full of craft stores, cafes, great restaurants and some decent bars. Pub St Alexandre is only 2 minutes’ walk away, and offers a huge selection of beer and a decent food menu as well.

We set our expectations and budget for a 3 star hotel. We were very satisfied with the hotel, the service and the location. The only criticism we have – which wouldn’t affect our decision to return here – is that the T.V. had too many French channels. We are from Montreal and used to this, however we expected that a hotel would cater to a more international crowd by having more English language channels. That being said, we only noticed this due to the bad weather locking us in the hotel for an afternoon, and we were still able to find something to watch. If anything, we would suggest bringing along some DVDs for entertainment, just in case.

All in all, we had a wonderful weekend at le Champlain and would definitely consider staying here again in the future!

Nice hotel in a great location. Everything was very nice, staff was great. Great recommendation for dinner. Everything was clean and worked great. Just think the decor needs an update. Will return to this hotel on my next visit to Quebec.
