“Charming in Every Way”
Reviewed 1 November 2013

In September 2013, we took 5 of our friends on a tour of eastern Canada. We booked rooms at this Auberge because there were 4 rooms available on the dates we required and the reviews were positive. We were not disappointed. Our British friends were charmed. The rooms are above a very fine Epicierie (a mini Harrods food hall!). The rooms are not large and as we had quite a lot of luggage for our tour, we were a bit short of drawer and hanging space. However, this did not detract from the fact that this was a lovely place to stay. The bedrooms were very comfortable and there was plenty of space in the elaborate Victorian sitting rooms. The host, Clement, was extremely attentive (thought not intrusive); we had a wonderful welcome and were entertained at breakfast with his amusing stories. Natalie produced a different and outstanding breakfast on each of our three mornings. The Auberge is outside the city walls but it is a short and pleasant walk to the nearest gate. My husband and I have been visiting Quebec City for over 30 years and we are delighted to have found this gem - we would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: There is little difference between the rooms. You may get some noise on the rooms overlooking the r...

We stayed in Auberge J.A Moisan in June 2012 and I have been meaning to write a review ever since as it was the highlight of our trip to Quebec! We haven't stayed in many B&Bs in the past but I have been converted since staying with Clement and Nathalie. Clement is so helpful and knowledgeable and put up with my rusty French (even though his English is perfect). The breakfast was a gourmet feast complete with table service and bone china. So lovely!!! The location is great, a five minute walk to the walled city on a charming road. Our room was the Albertine, small and cozy but large enough for us, we preferred sitting out on their terrace drinking the 5 star tea and chatting to the other guests or exploring Quebec City. I would highly recommend this place to anyone young or old, it's amazing,

Having traveled in Europe extensively we are not new to bijou, petite and cozy accommodations, and the Auberge Moisan is very European in this respect :)

Keep in mind that this is an old mansion, though it has been updated with a number of modern conveniences, so it is quite comfortable. The sitting rooms are spacious and allow you to meet other guests, and the breakfast is quite extraordinary!

Parking is offsite, so the owner will want to scoot off with your car to park it for you, make sure you expect this and are comfortable with it :)

We had a lovely time, did a fair bit of our Christmas shopping in the grocery store at the lower level, and overall enjoyed the experience.

If you are looking for a genuine experience in the heart of Quebec City, start calling Clement at the Auberge J.A.Moisan. It doesn't get better with four well appointed cozy guest rooms perfect for one or two people, breakfasts served in total elegance, try the sunroom too! Nathalie is an awesome chef. There are two narrower staircases up to the guest rooms, which is quite typical of the area. One night just doesn't do justice and Clement is the most wonderful person.
Knowledgeable, at your service, car valet, you name it he does it all.
Quebec City is stunning, the Plains of Abraham, Joan of Arc Garden, funicular, old lower town and so many one of a kind shops, upper city with the Frontenac Hotel, the Citadel, so many things to see, but it was sure nice to come home to this amazing Bed and Breakfast.
The rooms are located above the J.A.Moisan general store with a small café. Unique items, foods
and pastries! It was est.1871, it is worth going into. Thank You Clement and Nathalie for the most wonderful stay in a lovely but very old historic part of Quebec City!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Ludovine guest room, shower and toilet in the ensuite, the sink is in the main room...

This was a wonderful B&B. Clement made great recommendations of things to do and restaurant recommendations. The breakfast was awesome. The room was very clean and comfortable. Make sure you go to the store on the first floor. It had groceries, spices, coffee, deli, cheese, olive oil, spices, etc. A real experience.

We have stayed in numerous B&B's over the years, and our experience here is definitely in our top 3. Clement is a warm and welcoming host, and spends a great deal of time explaining Quebec City history and sights to visit in the area. The rooms are small and cozy, but pristine. And of course, the breakfasts ... simply to die for. Hard to decide which breakfast I enjoyed most over our 3 night stay. Clement advised they have 12 in their repertoire ... a good reason to return. The location is handy to the Old Town, Plains of Abraham and other sights. Be sure to check out their store below for special treats to take home.

My husband and I stayed here in 2011 and loved it so much we decided to bring my sister and her husband this time. Once again Clement greeted us enthusiastically and is an informative and effervescent host. Breakfast is incredible - so delicious and 'fit for foodies'. The breakfasts keep you going well into the day, this is no continental breakfast - allow an hour to enjoy the experience. The rooms are immaculate and the common area is luxurious in its decor and furnishings - you feel like a mix of family and royalty staying with Clement and Nathalie. We will always stay here when visiting Quebec City.
