“A once in a lifetime dining experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 March 2009

From the moment we arrived, we knew this place was special. One of the staff members, was waiting for us outside, since we called a few times and were lost. It was below zero, and she was looking for us. We were greeted by name immediately, and ushered into a very well designed upscale setting.

We were waited on hand and foot. If a utensil was out of place on the table, someone would come and straighten it out immediately.

The food was pure heaven, each and every morsel was a carefully prepared gastronomical experience that delighted every sense. The appetizers we tried, crab and then shrip and scallop, were excellent. Then the chef prepared pan roasted partirdge/pidgeon, what a delight. I could eat this until I died of the inevitable heart disease it would cause me :-)

The the entrees. Wow, the local lamb was amazing, probably the most succulent lamb ever, with side dishes and sauces that were so good they rivaled the meat.

The desert was equally well prepared, the breads, tea, little spoon sweets from the kitchen, everything was amazing. One thing to note, the portions were very small, but that is the price of perfection I guess.

Also, do not go to ancient canadians, you will regret it forever, and it will ruin your vacation, almost in the same way being robbed in the street by thugs.

“The most amazing meal I've ever had”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 October 2008

Let me start by saying that we ended the evening feeling like we should send the staff a thank-you note for how wonderfully we had been treated and how much we had enjoyed ourselves.

We started with drinks in the bar, then went on to 9-course Tasting Menu (arranged on a package deal through Auberge St-Pierre).

The service was effortless--friendly and refined. The food was mind-blowing in its elegant simplicity. (I'd describe what we had, but the menu changes at least once each week.)

*It should be mentioned that we had to do one substitution due to a food allergy and it was taken care of as if it had already been planned for. No questions and never a sideways glance.

Our meal ended with coffee and some of the best hot chocolate I have ever had.

It's not a cheap place by any means, but it's SO worth the price!

“Special dining in QC”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 June 2008

We had our anniversary dinner there. The staff was very attentive. They moved us to a reserved table when we asked to sit by the window. Food was excellent. Nice splurge. Very creative dishes. Had the nine course tasting menu. Closes early so we were the last ones there at 9:30. Gave us special treats for our anniversary. Very quiet and romantic. A top notch experience.

“Wonderful, Heaven simply the BEST”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 June 2008

We found that the Concierges at most hotels are conceited, pompous [--] and will send you the very expensive, very ordinary tourist places.
The bartender, Ben, at Auberge Saint Antoine recommended this place. We went back and gave him a big tip. Stop by the hotel in the late evening. He is quite a source for advice and great conversation.
The restaurant's facade is OK. It is in a nice part of the old town. The staff speaks English and makes you feel important. There were never less than two waiters waiting for a word or gesture. The service is exemplary.
The interior was from a movie. The food was, as we say in NYC, "to die for”.
Bring your wallet. It is expensive. However, you will dream for many years of this experience. Do not go here for business and only bring someone important to you. Be certain to allow time to savor the moment. Otherwise, the event will be wasted.
After a lifetime of fine dining around the world, this is my favorite. C'est Bon...no. C'est Magnifique.

Don't tell anyone. I want to be sure there's a table when we return.

“Extraordinary Dining Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 April 2008

Initiale is consistently excellent. This is one of the finest restaurants in Quebec City. The room is spacious with high ceilings and the tables are not crowded together. Food and service are spectacular. A great place to celebrate a special occasion and / or create a memorable dining experience to top off one's vacation in Quebec City.
