Had a wonderful dinner here with my SO. The food was out of this world and we both were amazed by the quality. The highlight of our evening was however the wine we ordered from their vast collection. The servers were very professional and mature in looking after you. I would definitely recommend anyone to try this out if you are looking for a classy dinner

Their website is representative of what you'll see when you go eat there, so I won't duplicate here. Its history is fascinating, and tied to several other landmark restaurants in the Old Quebec. It is worth a look.
La Cremaillere was once located on St-Jean street. Back then it was more of an average tourist place. But no more! It is now in another section of the old city, across the street from the city's town hall (there is a large underground parking under the town hall), where a landmark restaurant used to be. At the same time, La Cremaillere moved to an upper scale.

The impressions upon entering the place: roominess, cleanliness, calm and damped atmosphere. The architecture of the old stone house is all there, but in no place it shows its age. The service is classy. Nice paintings on the walls, cool music from all eras. There is enough distance between the tables, contributing to an atmosphere of intimacy: you won't feel cramped and won't hear the conversations of your neighbors. An excellent setting for a lovely evening.

The menu is a little short, made of French and Italian classics. The Wine list is very good. We had a tartar steak, which was prepared at our table, and veal sweetbreads. Crepes Suzette were prepared at our table too, for dessert. Classics, nicely prepared and served. Not out of this world, but very good! Perhaps that we were expecting too much, since all the rest is so perfect.

The price tag was reasonable for the meal, so at the end the value proposal is good, and it made an excellent romantic dinner. Being a bit out of the touristic streets, we haven't been disturbed by noisy groups.

In short, it made a spot in our list of good places to eat in the Old Quebec. With such an upscale environment, this restaurant could rise to the level of the best around. Of course it is up to the owners to decide if they want to go that way. We'll keep an eye open.

Over the last 30+ years we have eaten in over 50 different Quebec restaurants - can't believe we hadn't tried the Cremaillere sooner, as it is easily one of our top 3-4 favorites now. the entrance in an old house has a lovely curved staircase, and décor is quiet and relaxed. We found the service attentive and professional - among the best we've seen. As with most good restaurants in Que, drinks can add significantly to cost, but the huge wine list offers a great variety, with prices running from $20's to hundreds. We both chose Table du Hote ($45 and $54) - Escargot in Pernod with a small puff pastry, and a wonderful salmon tartare; for entrees we had veal sweetbreads and a seafood medley - all beautifully presented and delicious. For us the highlight was a beautifully prepared (at the table) sabayon - light and delicious (slightly added cost). All in all a memorable meal - in the heart of the old city. We found the prices, while high, in line with other top notch Quebec restaurants.

A must. Not the cheapest, certainly on of the finest - if not the finest! If you like rwa meet, beef tartar there is something you don't want to miss. Veal and quail are wonderful there as well.

We had a very nice dinner for 5 New Years Eve. The food and the presentation were wonderful and the staff was very friendly. It was festively decorated for the evening. The service was timely, especially given that they were booked to the gills. They didn't rush to turn over the table and we had a perfectly enjoyable dinner with wandering minstrels for entertainment!
