“Good times at the Grand Times”
Reviewed 20 March 2013

Stayed here about three or four times now. Regular haunt on my trips up to Head Office in Sherbrooke. Good location in the center of town, right by Lake Sherbrooke - excellent for early morning constitutional ;-)

Breakfast is always nice, with subdued Clannad or Sinead or Sade music in background, ambient fireplace and view of the lake, as one chows down on a selection of breads, toasted, boiled eggs ready to go, cheeses, honey, jams, marmalade.... cereal, yoghurt - probably the best non-full-English fry up breakfast. With live CNN TV and free wi-fi throughout the hotel.

Good HD flat screen TV's you can hook up to your laptop with a (self brought) VGA cable to enjoy Netflix or other online viewing on the big screen. I use it to Skype with too.

I get a corporate rate around $120 a night, but beware when staying at regular rate, the underground parking garage is $10 per day. Also the various taxes and room fees (standard in Quebec, I'm sure) will add to your bill.

All in all good place to stay. High standards. Very modern and clean. Bathroom is nice too, plenty of soaps, shampoo, etc. My preferred lodging when I'm in Sherbrooke, beats the Delta and even the President in my books....

Room Tip: Rooms with direct view of the lake and mountains will cost you up to CAN $ 20-40 a night more, but i...

Pleasant staff. Clean, large, comfortable room. Free wifi (which worked well for me). I had a nice view of the lake, as well. I enjoyed the modern style and the artwork throughout.

Continental breakfast in the lobby was fine, but as others have mentioned, the lack of a restaurant or room service could be an issue. The sitting area and fireplace in the lobby bar would make a comfortable meeting area, again with a nice view out over the lake.

From the outside, the hotel is quite nice in a boutique sort of way. The lobby and main rooms are clean and the decor is very modern. Check in was fast and efficient. The rooms are large and well maintained. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful. The location is wonderful and backs on to a park and lake. I can imagine the scenery in the summer!
Now for the downside. Ventilation is lacking in the main lobby as well as the rooms. We could not get the air conditioner/heater to work in either of our rooms. It was stifling hot at night and the overwhelming smell of lavender or some other cleaning or deodorizing solution was a bit much.
The continental breakfast bar was skimpy on variety, unless you are a toast fanatic. On our second morning, the coffee bar had a carafe of cream that was starting to sour. We did not eat in the restaurant. The bar is quiet and well stocked.
We didn't mind paying for underground parking as we avoided the snow clearing in the morning. Check out was very fast.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the lake side (back) of hotel.

Very clean (too clean?) and good location but the rooms are not well ventilated, if at all, which was bad because of lingering smell of cleaning products (or maybe neoprene mattress, or something, not sure) gave us headaches. We were there for basketball tournament, other parents had similar comments. Also, parking charges are automatic, which added to cost. If you like hard beds and not so well ventilated rooms (in winter), this is your place.

Nice, modern hotel (the only one that have a 'boutique' style in the area I think). Got the lovely surprise to be upgraded to a Soho suite (instead of a superior room), which was very nice. Very modern, spacious, confortable. Wifi did not work too well first but the staff was helpful.
Breakfast was included, don't expect too much but it is ok (bread, fruits, jam...). The thing is they don't have a 'restaurant' in the hotel, which means you can't order room service or eat there. Would be perfect if they did. There is an italian restaurant at a walking distance tough.
You can choose to have the view on the Lac Des Nations, which is very nice but be carefull to ask for a superior floor since there is a train station by the lake and it can be noisy.

Room Tip: If you are on the lake side ask to go on the last floors since the train can be noisy on the lower f...

Hello,

We were travelling with 11 year old boys for a hockey tournament. Most of the team had gone to the nearby Holiday Inn but 7 familiies decided to stay at the Grand times as it looked lovely and well situated. Well, they are not welcoming to children. There were multiple "teams" staying there that weekend and the staff CLEARLY were not able to manage the traffic. our boys were accused of stuffing toilet paper rolls down the toilet (when we weren't even there), bar staff took drink orders (non-alcholic of course) from children whose parents were not even there AND when we finally sat outside to relax at the end of our evening (beautiful terrace overlooking the water), the hotel staff called the police. YES....a june weekend, a bunch of suburban families were visited by police as if we were a bunch of hooligans....not one drunk or loud person among us (although a couple of indignant parents once the police arrived) and clearly there had been a mounting of frustration on behalf of the staff since Friday...WE had been the lucky ones who received the brunt end of the stick. I wrote to the hotel management after our stay, to see if calmer and more apologetic minds would prevail...we were told that they supported the actions that had been taken and that the hotel is really a BUSINESS traveller's hotel.....thus a warning for families.

This hotel is really new, located on the main street of Sherbrooke. During the rush hours it is hard to get in and out from the hotel crossing to the main street.

Outlook is modern, and so are the furniture. Rooms are big. The ceiling is interesting, it has not been treated in any way, so you can see bare concrete surface.

There is small pool inside and skate ring and ferris wheel outside. Parking is free in the front of the hotel.

The only bad thing in the hotel is the breakfast, it is really simple (only bread, cereals, and some fruits), there aren’t anything hot meals. And they are also served from disposable plates and tools.
