The view from the big front porch and yard looked across the bay and was gorgeous. The proprietors shared their fascinating family history with us. Each of the rooms is named for one of the great-grandfather's children. Breakfast was exceptional. The rooms and bathroom were very clean. We definitely would stay there again

On our round trip of Eastern Canada we spent 2 nights in this place. It is a lovely place with a lot of memorabilia of over a century of the owners of this place.
Breakfast is not only very good, partly served and partly as a buffet. We assembled round a big table and had some really enjoyable and informative talks with other guests.
Lise Hovington proved very helpful, I got my ticket for whalewatching directly from her.
Our room was rather big, a view on the river and the harbour. We had a separate second room and a bathroom with a tub.

Room Tip: We only saw one room - it was really OK. No problems with any noise. Parking in front was OK, just...

We spent 2 nights at the Maison Hovington and found it charming and conveniently located. First of all, Mr & Mrs Hovington could not have been better hosts. From my first contact with Mr Hovington on the phone (when he helpfully described their auberge and their service) I was charmed. The breakfasts were beautifully presented and thoughtfully prepared and were, of course, delicious. There was always a "warm" freshly prepared part to the breakfast along with cheeses, preserves, granola, fresh fruit, yogurt, fresh juices and toast & pastries (something for everyone). We had the opportunity to speak with fellow travelers from France, Canada, & Australia.

The Auberge is two stories with rooms on the 1st and 2nd floor. The home is filled with memorabilia from the lives of the owners and their ancestors who were the original owner of the home built before the turn of the 20th century. Mr. Hovington himself was born and raised in the home.

We had a room in the rear corner which was quiet. We didn't notice any more noise from other parts of the home than you would expect in your own home. It is after all an old home, not a purpose built hotel. The room had a comfortable King Sized bed and conveniently locataed wall plugs for charging up phone etc. The bathroom was small and didn't have a shower (just a bath) but it was adequate. The window had a screen so we could leave it open and enjoy the fresh cool air of Tadoussac.

The auberge itself sits up on a bluff overlooking the Tadoussac harbor below. There is a veranda/porch that runs along the entire front of the home filled with chairs and tables to sit and enjoy the view. The garden is filled with flowers and other places to sit. It is a short and easy walk to a number of restaurants and boutiques. And it is a slightly longer (and downhill/uphill) walk to the harbor, but entirely doable. If walking a short distance isn't possible, there is a convenient parking lot near the Whale Center which is 6 dollars a day (with in and out priveleges).

The owners were very helpful with helping us book a whale watching trip. They very wisely suggested that we wait to book until the day we wanted to take the whale cruise so we could see the weather before deciding on what time of day and type of boat we wanted to go on. Turned out to be good advice and we waited for the afternoon when it was going to be sunnier.

They have 30 minute parking in the front so as to bring in the luggage from the shortest distance. Then there is parking on a grass lawn in the rear of the home (off street). From there we got to meet their very delightful year old terrier (of some sort) who was tied up a few hours a day on the back porch. A cute little fellow.

Should we ever return to Tadoussac we would definitely stay at Maison Hovington (even though there are many other auberges and hotels to choose from).

We would stay here again. Our telephone reservation was warmly received and so were we when we arrived. The following morning the breakfast room was filled with lively conversation with those gathered around the family table. Our host was very gracious and gave us a little history of his home. The breakfast presentation was copious and nutritious. We joined in the conversation in French and English and learned about everyone's travels. Our room was spacious, comfortable and very charming. We did not experience any noise in the house. All other guests were very respectful of others.

My title must seem obvious for the soundproof part because it is a lovely old house, you can't expect too much about that, but boy was the wood floor screeching! We were in the smaller room and maybe it was our specific location but we could hear everyone walking up the stairs and walking on the floor, it was like they were entering the room! So that was really uncomfortable...We could hear them talk as well.

I started with the bad part because for us it was really important and didn't make us feel that confortable in the house.
About the room: we had a small but decent room with really nice view on the lake, but bathroom really small.
The staff is really nice, very welcoming.

last but not least: AMAZING breakfast! I was so happy to wake up in the morning because I knew a feast was awaiting downstairs! On the sweet side: home made jams (4-5kinds), homemade cakes/pastries, hot freshly prepared dish, different kind of bread, on the salted side: cheeses, ''creton de porc'' which is a quebec pork spread and I think I forget others... It was truly a feast

This lovely historical house offers an incredible view on the St. Lawrence river and if you sit on the porche long enough, you can even see whales. The neighborhood is very quiet and the house is within walking distance of all the main attractions. The hosts - Lise and Paulin - and their staff are all wonderful. The breakfast is always a pleasant time as you get to eat all this awesome food (mostly home made), get to know other guests and hear the fascinating story of this 140 years old house. I would just add that because it is such an old house, it is not sound proof and it may not be recommended for families with young kids. Enjoy your stay there!
