This hotel looks beautiful from the outside and we love its location. The inside needs updating and we heard horror stories about its restaurant so we did not try. The bed was very comfortable and the staff seems well trained. Wish they could give us more cream for our morning coffees though. After we left a tip and a note to house keeping asking for more cream we still only got 2 creams for 2 people which is like asking us to drink our coffee black!! We probably won't stay here again even though the general feeling was not bad it was not great.

Dear MMWife, Thank you for posting your review. I am pleased to see that you like many aspects of your stay but hope you will accept my apologies for any shortcomings. To be clear, all guest rooms and corridors have been fully renovated. Further renovations for public areas and restaurants are in the planning stages. I'm afraid your note may not have been understood but I'm sure a simply request to a Room Attendant or the Front Desk would have fulfilled your need for additional coffee cream.

Sincerely,

Andrew Turnbull

You can't go wrong at the Delta Bessborough. It's iconic and beautiful. We stayed in a jacuzzi suite and had a lovely view of the park. Big comfy bed - very nice pillows and sheets. The room was clean and fresh. The only down-side is that the room was very warm throughout our stay over the weekend (we went in July). We had the air up full blast but it was still quite warm. It's an old hotel so there are just limitation you can't avoid. It certainly didn't spoil our weekend. The cleaning staff were friendly and professional. We enjoyed the Sunday buffet immensely...lots of DELICIOUS variety. Take your special someone for a weekend at The Bess....you won't be disappointed. BRAVO!

Had a great one night stay at this property. I love old railroad hotels provided the rooms are modern, soundproof and clean. This hotel is exactly that. They have kept some of the gorgeous old touches that remind you it is a "grand dame", while ensuring that it has all the modern comforts one would want. The staff are just terrific. From check in to departure everyone I ran into said hello, was extremely helpful and did it all with a smile. And the location cant be beat, right on the river with its lovely walking/running trails.

Two Canadian railways competed 100 years ago to have quality hotels. I have stayed in heritage railway hotels in Vancouver, Victoria, Montreal, , Lake Louise, Ottawa and Winnipeg and all have been special. The Bessborough was built a few years later than some, but it is the best. The design of the rooms, the facilities and the grounds (right on the river, itself a long parkway) all point to thought, if not genius, in design. The rooms work just as well now as they did in the 1930s. Nothing is lacking, and nothing is mere decoration. Staff are exceptional and the morale of all staff is exceptional.

We rented bikes for a ride along the river. The hotel was helpful with bikes and restaurant recommendations.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the river may be marginally quieter, but views are interesting looking onto the heart o...

We stayed at the hotel over August Long weekend for a family event and was quite surprised at the lack of cleanliness of the rooms. We have stayed at the Bessborough many times in the past and have never had anything but positive comments. Unfortunately this last stay at the hotel has made us decide to try other properties in the downtown area.

The positives of the hotel is that it the hotel is located in the heart of downtown at the most beautiful location along the river. The hotel itself is quite charming and the staff was friendly but that is all the good we have to say about the hotel on this most recent visit.

All weekend the hotel only had one working elevator despite how busy the hotel seemed to be with various events and plenty of guests trying to get to and from their room. This meant waiting quite a long time to catch the elevator which was quite inconvenient. As soon as we checked into our room, we noticed the bathroom was quite dirty. The tub itself had a ring of dirt and mildew, the tub also was quite worn and yellow. We were in a rush and decided not to complain about this, but my significant other took to cleaning the tub. The ceramic on the tub was also worn off in a number of spots revealing metal underneath the ceramic. The sink itself also had little brown spots all over that looked like permanent dirt or rust spots. Finally the toilet had a dark black permanent spot at the bottom of the bowl. All these things we did not complain or say anything about because we knew were staying at a old hotel, but it was disappointing to see. The issue that put us overboard was that on our third day in the hotel, we returned to the hotel mid afternoon after the room had been "cleaned" to find a hair elastic and velcro hair roller that did not belong to any of us sitting on the bathroom ledge beside our toothbrushes. This is itself made us quite upset and wonder how well the rooms were infact cleaned. One of the other concerns we had was that we asked for a microwave to be brought to the room but the staff member that brought the microwave just gave it to us at the front door and did not offer to come inside and set it up.

I honestly would ask to check to see the state and quality of room going forward if I ever have to stay at the hotel.

Dear JJF5533, Thank you for taking the time to post your review. I hope you will accept my apologies that not all aspects of your stay were as they should have been. I would like to clarify a couple of points. One of the two guest elevators went down on Fri evening. Our Elevator company was contacted immediately and while there was some delay, given the long weekend, both elevators were fully operational by mid day on Sat. We are 3/4 of the way through a complete bathtub reglazing which is dealing with the condition issue you noted. All the original cast iron tubs will have been fully restored by fall. While I am at a loss to explain the elastic and the roller, I assure you cleanliness is foremost in everything we do and your experience will be reviewed with the entire housekeeping team in an effort to ensure continuous improvement.

Sincerely,

Andrew Turnbull

We spent the August long weekend in Saskatoon and stayed at the Bessborough. It's old and beautiful but the rooms are nicer than a lot of modern hotels. We had a king bed that was really comfortable. The room was clean and well-appointed. The only problem with the room is that the bathroom door fits really tightly and you can't possibly shut it without making a lot of noise! Parking is a problem on weekends. The hotel charges guests for parking but other people can also buy parking tickets from the machines in the lots. This results in there not being enough parking spots for hotel guests, especially on Saturday night. The parking spots are quite narrow and some people parked inconsiderately, taking up part of the spot beside them, which made the problem worse. The hotel had an employee who did his best to sort this out, but I think they need to look at reserving the parking for hotel guests only, at least on weekends.

Room Tip: Rooms on the back have a view of the river but can sometimes be noisier if there are activities in t...

On our road trip from Ontario to BC, we tried to stay at various heritage hotels to get a taste of the old times. Delta Bessborough was definitely one of our favorites. The inside of the hotel is renovated beautifully, the room and the pool is clean, the GYM is large and the piano in the lobby is perfect for the ambiance. The outside is gorgeous and elegant with a charm of a beautiful castle. The parking is small but we had no issues as we used the Valet with minimum increase in charge.
The hotel has couple of restaurants with good food. However, the hotel is convinently located in downtown and within walking distance of nice restaurants.
The only improvement, I would recommend is having a complimatry open coffee and tea station in the lobby for the guests' enjoyment. Overall, I would recommend the hotel.
