“Ok... Poor services and erratic staff!”
Reviewed 7 December 2013 via mobile

What scares me about this place is everyone said it is the best place in town...so how bad are the other places? Place was a litany of disasters. Do not stay anywhere near the river side of the hotel, as it is next to a dance club and your hotel room will be thumping from 11 to 2 am! If it is cold out the hotel only have about 10 plugs in for your car .... For a hotel with about 80 rooms. So hopefully your car starts in the morning on a cold day... Mine just!!! Started. The overall cleanness of the place is mediocre... There was a dirty!!! Q- tip in the hotel hallway all week... No one cleaned it up. Room cleaning was erratic... Sometimes a good job... Other times I think they forgot to clean my place. There was a welsh girl at the front desk super helpful!!! Ask for here! In contrast the rest of staff will do nothing to to help you expect roll their eyes and tell you nothing is there fault! I asked for dishes for my room ... The response was a sarcastic... Do you want food on it?... The bar is really small and it last glory days were in the 80s! And the close really early , about 11/11:30.... With the loving attitude of get the hell out now from staff! Not the best place in town! Needs serious improvement. Better yet whitehorse needs more and better choices!

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your recent stay at our hotel and I apologize that our facilities and service did not meet your expectations.

Our room attendants clean guest rooms on a buddy system and housekeeping supervisors inspect rooms to make certain things have not been overlooked. Hallways are vacuumed daily by janitorial staff and room attendants are also trained to assist in keeping guest room corridors clean. Our Executive Housekeeper has passed on the issues you raised to all our housekeeping staff as your observation of the Q-tip in the hallway and the inconsistency in daily guest room cleaning do not reflect the cleaning standards we expect our employees to uphold.

Our 70 seat Gold Pan is a favorite of locals and is one of the busiest daytime, happy hour and evening establishments in Whitehorse. We have upgraded floor, wall and window coverings but have been told repeatedly by our regulars to not change the flavour or character of the Gold Pan. We have had issues on numerous Friday's and Saturday's with the noise of people leaving the night club of the hotel next door. Out of respect for our guests trying to sleep, we do close our own bar promptly and early. The comment about wanting food on the plates was a poor attempt at humour and not the professional response expected of our service staff.

There are 25 vehicle plug-ins along the front, side and rear of our hotel. We also have two large electrical bars running along two edges of the parking lot with a further 30 plug-ins. Well over half of our guests coming to stay in our 100 room hotel in the winter arrive by plane and the majority of those take our complimentary shuttle service to the hotel so we have not experienced a shortage of plug-ins that I am aware of. On the rare cold night when our guest parking lot is near capacity, our maintenance has loaned extension chords and directed guests to parking and plug-ins at he rear of the hotel.

I realize none of my comments or explanations can change your recent experience. However, ir you are coming to Whitehorse in the future please contact me directly. I will personally look after your reservation and will endeavour to make right the shortcomings you experienced during your recent stay.

Sincerely,
John Robertson

I've stayed at this hotel several times for business while in Whitehorse. It's close to the downtown area so a nice walk to some of the unique shopping around town. Decent, clean rooms...there is a good sized desk to do some work if required. It looks as though they have done some remodelling to the bathroom counter tops, sinks ect. Overall a good place to stay in a good location for Whitehorse.

Room Tip: Higher level floors tend to be quieter in the building.

Be aware older, timber, multi level building with minimal sound insulation from above. Rooms were clean and Cozy feeling however it sounded like there was a marathon on upstairs and every second step squeaks. We stayed 4 nights total and we asked to be moved on our third to try and get some lasting sleep. We were moved to another room where there was no noise. Shower temperature varies from hot hot to icey every few seconds. Staff were friendly and helpful.

I was in room 118. The suit was quite hommie with two bedrooms, 1 bathroom a kitchen and living room. The room is really good for families and friends traveling together. It make you feel like you're at home. Overall appearance of the hotel is really good; restaurant on site and everything is within walking distance from the hotel to downtown Whitehorse.

Room Tip: Choose room 118 if you traveling with family or friends. You can save a lot of money by cooking your...

We had stopped here on our way to Fairbanks hoping to spend the night but there was not any rooms available. So, we made certain to stop on our return through Whitehorse. Everything was perfect for a stay. Comfortable bed & big clean room. Very quiet. Bathroom was average size but nicely updated and CLEAN!!! Good value for downtown location. Complimentary breakfast not included...but no loss...Whitehorse has a "Tim Hortons". Hotel has luggage carts in front entrance and an elevator, but hallways are tight...it is a very old hotel...but wonderfully modernized and maintained.

Room Tip: Avoid street noise on weekends...ask for a back alley facing room.

We stayed at the Best Western in Whitehorse after driving the Dempster, Top of the World and Golden Circle route. We had our bikes with us and we wanted to do some riding in Whitehorse and Carcross.

The Best Western has a secure bike storage which is important for us. The rooms had a fridge which was great but could have been bigger.

Our room was large with two queen sized beds, an extra sitting chair and a desk for my husband and I to use instead of the bed for reading and working on the computer.

The room was quite warm, they had an extra fan that we used during the night. We had a room facing the main street over the pub, the pub noise was noticeable on the Thursday night we were there, they did warn us and offer to change our room, the pub noise was minimal after 11.

I would stay there again, the people were great as was the location.

Room Tip: I would ask for a room facing the lane and/or not over the pub.

Cons: no way of cooling the room besides a small window and fan, and it was oppressively hot during the day. There was a restraint exhaust right next to my window, which meant I had to choose between the unpleasant heat and the overwhelming smell of grease. The shower swung wildly between hit and cold every few minutes, meaning you had to stand half in and out to use it.
The wifi was so slow I couldn't load images or videos, and continually disconnected so backing up my apple devices was impossible. The room came with a microwave, but no cutlery or crockery. One of the two elevators was extremely dodgy, once it jerked so violently I was thrown from my feet. It I had been elderly, I can easily imagine a broken hip.

Pros: the bathroom was nicely furnished, and the beds were very comfortable. The staff were helpful, I bought a watermelon without thinking and they sent it to the kitchen to be cut up for me. The location is excellent in proximity to businesses and a supermarket. They had plenty of washers and dryers for guests to use. Ample parking nearby.
