“SMALL ROOMS”
Reviewed 14 June 2014

Rooms are very small. You can't get a king bed. No air conditioning, only open your window relief.

Staff are friendly. Seem to work at lots of different jobs, i.e. waiter in the morning, baggage handler in the afternoon, waiter in the evening.

Hi Chuck8700,

You are right, our staff do like to work a lot. There are a few of our seasonal staff that come up for the summer and will work as many jobs as possible, as you noticied during your stay. I apologize if you did not get the bed type you wanted. We do have 180 rooms in the hotel but less than half of them have king beds which does make it hard to fulfill everyones requests.

This hotel has all you need in an hotel; just! It's clean, the rooms have comfy beds, the en suites are - erm - en suites. I read on TripAdvisor that you should aim to get an upstairs room, so I emailed my request a week ahead. No response, and when we arrived we found we'd been allocated a ground floor room. There was noise outside our window until the early hours, and the queue for the Follies ticket office meant it was virtually impossible to get into or out of our room. We returned a week later; this time I received an email apologising for the earlier oversight and we found ourselves on the second floor; a much better room. But three coaches had arrived just before us and again in order to get to the lift we had to struggle through groups of people who clearly felt we had no right to be there. However staff are polite, parking is fine and the hotel occupies a good central location. Big minus point: on our travels through Canada it is the only place where we've been charged for Wi-Fi; ironically it's also the only place where the Wi-Fi was as good as useless; we were able to access emails, but it was too slow for anything else. We weren't charged on our second visit. Overall it's OK I suppose, but I suspect there are better places to stay in Whitehorse.

Hi Ian W.

I want to apologize for the delay in getting back you about your room request but I am glad we were able to accommodate you for your second visit. During the summer months with the Frantic Follies taking part within our hotel, our lobby, even though it is fairly large, does get extremely crowded with bus tours coming in to watch the show and waiting to line up. We do charge $6.25 per day for our wireless if you are in a standard room, but as you noticed on your second trip we will not charge you if we know it is not working, just let us know! We hope to see you again one day!

We stayed here two nights, while visiting Whitehorse. It is centrally / conveniently located in the heart of the downtown district. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms are nothing fancy or special, but they are clean & the beds are comfortable. There are lots of neat places to eat nearby and places to shop. A nice place to stay, while in Whitehorse.

Nothing special about the hotel considering the price. Wifi doesn't always work. The hotel charges $6 a day for wifi which only works in the lobby. Our reservation with booking.com included free wifi but staff didn't realize this. When we showed them our confirmation they agreed to give it to us without charge. Staff are helpful and friendly.

Dear Lesterbeach,

We are working with booking.com to get the wireless promoted accurately but I am glad our staff were able to fix the charge for you. In the meantime, we have had our wireless technicians in and the wireless is working in the rooms again and you will only have to use it in the lobby if you choose to now. Thank you for your comments, we look forward to seeing you again next time you are in Whitehorse.

Stayed for three nights. Lots of reneovations going on with replacing carpets, wouldnt have been a comfortable stay if i spent the day in the hotel.

Room was dated and very hot, could not turn down the heat for some reason. It was very clean though.

Staff where great, very friendly.

I only ate breakfast at the hotel but it was good, loved having the smoked salmon.

Mayra the bartender in the lounge is single handly the best bartender i ever met for small talk i would literally go back there to hear her banter with the costumers. Truly an art.

Hello jgoudie24,

We appreciate your patience with us while we were renovating during your stay. I am glad you enjoyed your time with us and especially the comments about Mayra. I will make sure to her know, she has only been working in the loung for a short time, but she has taken to it extremely well. We hope to see you in the future again!

The room was good, not outstanding, but serviceable. It was quiet, we really thought we were going to be in trouble when our window had to be opened to an outdoor bar patio(no a/c - don't need it.) No problem. The place closed before we returned from our excursion. Good night's sleep after walking the town and discovering things ourselves.

You might wanna lower your expectations if you're going to this hotel. This hotel was built in the late 60s and I could still see it. It was renovated in 1998. I was at this hotel last week for the first time. I had heard about it in a good way (close to the Main Street, close to restaurants and bars) and in a bad way (old, hard beds, small rooms, etc.)

This hotel is located right downtown and only a 4 minute walk from Main Street (2 blocks). The staff at the front desk was very friendly.

The room that I got was on the 3rd floor. You could expect smaller rooms then in big city properties (smaller bathroom and a smaller bed area). Although it was smaller, I didn't feel that this room was too small. I was by myself. The bed mattress was harder then I'm in use too (they could do better with today's beds). I still slept well. When I woke up, I could hear people talking in the room next to mine and they were not even that loud.

Just hope you don't have noisy neighbours. I personally had a good stay at this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the top floor. It seems not too well isolated for noise.
