“Disappointing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 September 2010

This Inn was touted as a "gem." The brochure used the Martha Stewart segment that was filmed there as a lure. We were greatly disappointed. The property needs to be spruced up. Lumber and other debris stacked around the sauna. The hot tup was not warm enought to use. The $40 per person evening meal was poor. What looked like a buffet serving device sat unused and full of water on the deck. We had to pay $12.50 for continental breakfast. Rooms in the basement around the fitness center were being used for storage and in disarray. Maybe it is better in the winter than summer, but our experience was disheartening. Don't waste your money.

The Inn on The Lake is a beautiful place. Marsh Lake is spectacular and the scenery is great. We had 5 of us staying together in the Carigana Cottage. It was perfect for this number of people and a sixth person would have been fine. The cost was very reasonable for this number of people (could cook our own meals and cheaper than 2 hotel rooms). It had 3 bedrooms, full kitchen, BBQ, a great living room area with a wood burning fireplace. TV, but no cable or satellite if that matters to you. No real views from our cottage and a fair number of mosquitos.

The main lodge is beautiful and has a back balcony with fantastic views. No Northern Lights in the summer and the lodge faces the wrong direction anyways. Outdoor hot tub was nice and so was the deck overlooking the lake. They had kayaks, bikes, canoe, etc. that we could use, but we did not have time. We did see a black bear around the property and there are some neigbourhood dogs.

The location is very nice but not as isolated as you would think (in a small community of houses/cottages). Also, it is a ways from Whitehorse (40 min drive).

The buildings were clean and the beds comfortable. Also, got a free 9 hole round of Golf at a very nice club just outside Whitehorse. Sometimes can be tough to find a staff member when you need one. We did not eat at the main lodge as it was $$$ and we had our own kitchen anways.

Overall this is a great place and we would happily stay here again.

I cannot say enough to give the Inn on the Lake praise. From start to finish Carson and the staff at the Inn were bending over backwards to ensure our stay was as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Whilst booking I let them know what extra activities I wanted to do on top of their base winter adventure packaging, when we were picked up at the airport we were told the dog sledding we wanted had all been sorted out for us, this set the tone for the rest of the stay it was hassle free.

The Inn is set on Marsh Lake with beautiful views around it and the dining table placed so you can enjoy this over meals. Dinner becomes a social event in itself with an interesting blend of nationalities at the table. The food is more fine dining, there is no doubt that Karina is a fantastic chef its just a shame some of the portions were not a bit bigger.

I rated sleep quality 1 based purely on the fact that for us we were looking for northern lights, which sometimes come out in the early hours of the morning but we managed to catch around midnight, we however tried pushing our luck for an encore! The rooms are clean and well furnished one thing that caught us out was our suite (Kodiak) was in a building owned by another lady who didn't appreciate the front door being left unlocked- there is another suite on the opposite side of the stairs whilst she seems to be refitting the ground floor for herself, although we were probably told but it just didn't register!

All I can really say is a big thank you to Carson, Jonny (who is probably glad we've gone so he can get some sleep), Arnold (with his amazing Chefs whites), Karina, Hermana and Annabel. It was a wonderful experience I just wish I could live in an area like that!

A great hideaway for outdoor freaks and Northern lights spectators, about 45 minutes south of Whitehorse Airport, with a wonderful family-like ambiance. Built completely of logs which gives it a cosy but sturdy atmosphere. Excellent location right at Marsh Lake with direct lake access. Friendly and attentive staff. Five stars for the cuisine!!! Excellent!!! You share dinner table with other guests which adds to the great experience. Recommended without hesitation.

We did not expect what we got. We stayed in the Carigana Cottage and it was awesome! We wished we had more time, but were only able to stay on short evening. It was quiet, quaint, beautiful, and totally relaxing. We loved the wood-burning stove, full kitchen, and all of the bedrooms.

My son(18) and I spent 3 nights at the Inn mid March. Upon arrival, there was no one to greet us and ended up wandering around the lodge and back out on the lane to find somebody to check us in.....strange feeling as first impression. After check in we were given an orientation by a staff member which made us feel more at home. The view from the "Duck" room was somebody's house and back yard 100 feet away....not scenic at all. The last night in the presidential suite was excellent.

I could tell it was going to be very quiet during the days here so I was glad I had a car rented. I was also surprised the Inn was not isolated(as shown in website photos) but in a small residential area. Staffing during our stay seemed random .

The evening dinner was fine although dissapointed the main course of chicken was only a leg which left us still hungry. Pizza in Whitehorse for us the following night. Breakfast($13 each) was good, but no option if you just want a piece of toast. You will be charged $13 regardless. Having a teen age son, opting out of the last 2 gourmet dinners was a good call for us.

Interaction with other guests was fun for us and made it the best part of our stay. Northern light viewing was not possible from our rooms and either had to walk out on the ice or back to the highway to be able to look North. A little intimidating alone in the pitch black nights.

If you like dogs there were 3 or 4 wandering around the property....all friendly, but watch where you step as the "doo" was not attended to.

Over all , the Inn was clean, comfortable and quiet . It was a fine place to come back to after our day trips to Whitehorse and Skagway. PS Pack Slippers .

We got married on the balcony at Inn of the Lake, an impromptu little ceremony as the Northern Lights weren't being particularly cooperative and it was 35 below. The staff was very nice, staying late to be our witnesses, but I just didn't get the vibe. I can't really explain it, but I just didn't feel great about being there.

We didn't receive a warm greeting on arrival, they seemed a bit put out actually. Maybe it was because it was the week before Christmas and everybody was beat, maybe it was because of the cold snap that was cold even for them, maybe it was the other guests, but the whole aura of the place was not comfortable.

We stayed in the room Martha Stewart stayed in, and it was OK, but certainly not "world class." The toilet plugged. It was very noisy because people came in and out all night long trying to sight the Northern LIghts and the room is right above the door.

It wasn't a disaster, by any means, but it just didn't have the vibe other people reported. Not a great place to have spent my wedding night.
