The Pear Tree is well worth a visit, whether you're looking for accommodation or a meal. We spent two nights there, having made plans to see a show in Cambridge. The accommodation is in a separate annexe to the inn itself, with two connected rooms and en-suite -- spacious, quiet and comfortable. All conveniences were provided, right down to some bottled water and fresh milk in the little refrigerator. (As someone who hates hotel-room tea made with those thimble-sized long-life cartons, this impressed me greatly!)
We had a terrific meal in the pub itself the night of our arrival. My husband had salmon, I had braised lamb, and the quality was excellent. The service was spot-on: attentive but never intrusive. Lovely coffees to follow, too.
We got a very nice cooked breakfast, with high quality and delicious local ingredients that had most definitely never been anywhere near a supermarket.
Hildersham is on a bus route straight into Cambridge, so the location was very convenient. After a busy Saturday in the town, it was nice to come back to the tranquility of this very pretty inn and avoid the usual noise issues you get when staying in a more built-up place.
Grateful thanks to our lovely hosts, Sholto and Poppy, and their team, who made us so welcome. We'll definitely be back!
