Visiting friends and stayed here overnight. Very peaceful setting and top floor room had a commanding view of the garden. The room lacked some attention to detail in housekeeping but it wasn't dirty and the dual control TV was troublesome to operate. Breakfast was very good and service was friendly rather than polished. Some of the fabric now a bit tired in the hotel which made the price seem a little high for the overall quality.

The whole hotel was block booked by an organisation which held its annual dinner there(which we were attending), but there was no reduction in price for the room. Had it not been block booked I could have got a far better price on the internet. For a rural hotel of no particular significance - and looking a tad neglected, it was expensive. The "junior suite" we were allocated was in the attic, up several flights of stairs. The accommodation was clean, but very old and tired (bathroom wasn`t bad): the televisions didn`t work properly and were old. Probably hadn`t been upgraded in 20 years. Generally quite depressing. Recently stayed in a far better London hotel for the same price (£101). Won`t bother again.

The decor is a bit tired. The staff are different every time you visit. All the very good , local staff appear to have left. The quality of the food has deteriorated steeply. This time the staff seemed very inexperienced, and appeared to have difficulty in understanding what the food on the menu was. Most of the food was pre-prepared, out of the cook-chill. One meal was sent back, as it was burnt black.
Very disappointing, this hotel used to have lovely, local staff, and a delicious, expertly cooked and presented menu.

I stayed at the Grange Hotel on business for 2 nights. Being used to staying over in hotels due to business trips, I am not particularly fussy and often feel that so long as the room is clean and comfortable it is fine. I am also not one to complain. However I was most disappointed with this hotel.

The room was small, tired and not particularly clean with stained carpets and peeling 'damp' paint on the walls.

The shower was only luke warm on the hottest setting on both mornings and the bathroom looked like it required a refurbishment.

My second evening had in excess of 12 lady birds in the room, having killed some throughout the evening, more just appeared in the room (despite that fact the window wasn't even open) and still not entirely sure where they were coming from.

Breakfast took 25 minutes to be served to me, despite I was the only guest dining in the restaurant at the time.

It is such a shame that a building of such character and pleasant setting, under achieves. I will not be returning to the hotel althoughI will be staying in Bury St Edmunds on a regular basis.

The staff were pleasant enough but the general look, feel and attention to detail was just not up to stratch.

Relocated because my choice of hotel had double booked. Beautiful location, but staff attitude and facilities poor. Room was not particularly clean, no internet in room, TV didn't work and worst of all, there was no hot water. When I complained at reception, I didn't get an apology - just a request for my credit card so that they could check me out.
Avoid this hotel!

The location in the countryside is lovely, but the food was awful- Christmas lunch of shop- bought canapes and processed turkey. Bread sauce was as runny as milk - when asked for a replacement, fresh runny milk-like sauce was presented! Here is a 'chef' who cannot even read how to make bread sauce from a packet, let alone make it from scratch. Highly overpriced and when I pointed out the turkey was not from a real bird the onwer was rude and insisted the circular slices of slices we had received were frsh turkey.

Quiet retreat, lovely olde world bulding in attractive gardens. However food there is awful! Full English Breakfast was cremated, the worst scrambled egg ive ever seen, its just a yellow mush, and the evening meal was no better, tough cold steak. Size of the portions is fine but quality is poor. Will definitely not be stopping here again.
