“Absolutely Wonderful”
Reviewed 27 January 2017 for a stay in January 2017

We had a wonderful stay at Thurston lodge.

Mark couldn't have been friendlier and welcomed us into his home, showing us round the wing which we were staying in. A cosy fire greeted us in the living room and we were offered tea and coffee on arrival. The lodge was clean, spacious, and cosy. Mark made us a generous, tasty full English in the morning, all set up privately in the lovely living room.

We would highly recommend Thurston lodge and look forward to returning in the not too distant future!

Thanks Mark! :)

“most amazing twixmas we have ever had!!!”
Reviewed 5 January 2017 for a stay in December 2016

where do I start? This is the second time that my husband and myself have stayed with Mark and both times he has made us feel really welcome and a part of his family. He went the extra mile and had coffee, mince pies and a roaring fire waiting for us when we returned from our trips out, and remembered that my husband is a great lover of his full English breakfast! I can't thank you enough for making this a wonderful experience that will stay with us, I even have your beautiful Christmas tree as my phone wallpaper!!!! will definitely be seeing you again.

“Idyllic”
Reviewed 3 October 2016 for a stay in September 2016

We stayed at Thurston Lodge for two nights late September and from the moment we drove through the gates felt completely at home. Mark greeted us so warmly and showed us around his beautiful home and let us know about the local spots to visit and helpful advice.

The surrounding area is beautiful and we had great fun driving around the open countryside but I will admit we couldn't wait to get back to The Lodge at the end of the day. We spent to evening in front of the roaring fire and then had a wonderful nights sleep in the very comfortable bed. Breakfast was stunning and set us up for the day ahead. It was delicious and hot, a real treat.

I felt a tug of the heartstrings as we pulled away but we plan to go back before too long.

I can't thank Mark enough to make a good stay into a wonderful stay, how he does it all is a mystery. It's a real pleasure to stay in the home of somebody who clearly loves it and has brought it back to life. We felt like Lord and Lady of the Manor for a couple of days.

Thanks once again
Erryl and Graham

“Excellent accommodation, great host”
Reviewed 15 September 2016 for a stay in August 2016

We spent a week at Thurston Lodge and would like to thank Mark for his excellent hospitality in the best accommodation we have stayed in for many years. We couldn't believe how nice the property was and the extent of what was ours for the week. We've recommended to anyone whose asked about our holiday and hopefully Mark will get more bookings from our area (Oban). He will definitely get one from us, hope to see you soon.

As we arrived it felt like we had stepped into a BBC Period Drama.
Mark, a natural host, anticipated our needs throughout our stay.
Look forward to returning to enjoy this generous hospitality.

“Going to Suffolk? Do yourself a favour and stay here!”
Reviewed 7 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

Simply wonderful. A beautiful house, sympathetically restored with a huge amount of space! You get a large entrance hall, a lovely sitting room with a baby grand piano, a large bathroom with oak paneling, a walk in shower and a Victorian style roll top bath and a massive bedroom with a 4 poster. Oh, and a lovely, secluded private garden. Not bad eh?

Add to all that a charming host (Mark) who is friendly and helpful but not in your face. And he cooks you a fantastic breakfast.

Ideally situated to explore Bury St Edmunds (6 minutes on the train) or the wider delights of Suffolk.

Negatives? Well, if you have mobility issues, the steep stairs might be a challenge... and, if you want squeaky-bright-new modern box hotels and don't like old properties (with creaking floorboards etc) then this might not be for you. But then you'll be missing out.

We will definitely come here again. Simply heavenly.

This was a great place to stay. The lounge room is a great place to relax in the evenings by the fire. Mark cooks the best breakfasts to get you started. This is a great place for a couple to stay and have a quiet relaxing time. We will definitely be coming back.
