The room was very clean and a great size, owners were very friendly and accommodating. Stayed in this hotel about 3 times in many different rooms and all have been lovely. Cooked breakfast in the morning is delicious! The bar inside is very nice and great to sample the Cumbrian ales.

It is February, the wind is howling so the head is down on entry. On looking up you are thrust back in time into a Victorian everything.
Once the eyes stop scannig the walls, and you settle in. I have arrived on Grill night, and can recommend the Americam Grill Steak and Ribs.
The whole building is about small heavily decorated space and while the public areas are Victorian, including large open fires, the room transition back to modern comfort and decor.
I would suggest this might be a good visit on route through the Lakes anytime. I am rarely kind about accomodation so this is unusual. So key points:
Victoriana, great food, great service, modern rooms and finally warm thoughout. But dont go looking for big open spaces... they are reserved for the outside.

Room Tip: To floor rooms very quiet.

Stayed overnight in a lovely double room overlooking the sea. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean. We had dinner in the bar and breakfast the next morning. The food was great and staff very friendly.

Four of us has the Sunday Carvery here- lovely atmosphere in an old school building-dining room overlooking the grounds and out to sea - the food served was hot, tasty and well cooked- certainly a place to return - handy as it is local for us.

The Calder House Hotel is a great hotel to stay. The rooms are nicely furnished and the service is excellent. The bar is cosy and gives a welcoming atmosphere. The meals are reasonably priced and are very tasty to boot. All in all I'd have no hesitation in going back to the Calder House, it was well worth the money and the views over the Irish Sea to the Isle of Man are wonderful.

The rooms here are average, but the view out over the Irish sea from mine was superb. The gem in this hotel is however the chef! The ribeye steak I had was quite simply the best I've ever had. It looked like several others knew of his skills as many others were eating there.

Room Tip: One looking out to sea

Stayed for 6 nights on business and was thoroughly well looked after by Steve and Andy. Room was perfect overlooking the shore. Breakfast was lovely each day. Vast menu each night with steak and curry themed evenings. All staff were very friendly and very dedicated to ensure your stay at Calder House Hotel is memorable for all the right reasons. Excellent housekeeping. Due to leaving early on the Saturday morning Andy offered to provide packed lunch which was a lovely touch! Make sure you enjoy Steves' legendary green frog cocktail. Absolute lush! The only negative I found was lack of O2 signal but it is quite common in those parts.
