“Anniversary Treat”
Reviewed 21 August 2014

My wife treated me to a weekend break to Bath for our 32nd anniversary.
It was great.
We stayed in a chalet number 5, there were six chalets in a row and we were introduced to other guests sipping champagne outside their chalet celebrating their anniversaries.
The chalet was both practical and aesthetic. I liked the wet room, décor and the Talissimo coffee maker. The room was spotless, had Wi-Fi and a good flat screen TV.
The ivy clad pub was delightful, Butcombe beer on draft was my favourite and we snuggled up to some very good food in a rustic setting. The steaks were the best my wife has tasted in a long time, the butcher is mentioned on the menu. We had two very high quality evening meals.
Burton is a one horse town and the horse has run away but a 20 minute drive takes you to the Lansdown park and ride. It cost nothing to park the car and only £5 for two for the bus into Bath centre.
I cannot fault the Inn and we even had Hurricane Bertha giving us a bit of assistance sailing back up the M5 and M6 to home

We have been travelling from Australia for the last 3 months. We have been staying at the charming Manor House hotel and decided that we would venture out for an evening meal, what a treat we were in for, we were welcomed in out of the rain. The service was first class, a delightful young lady looking after us, and the food was absolutely delicious, such a nice change to have plain, simple food cooked to perfection, nothing fancy just good honest tasty food. I can truly recommend having dinner here.

We stayed at the Old House for a few days with friend visiting the Cotswold's and Bath. This was an ideal base for both. The rooms are set away from the main Pub and were very well equipped modern and comfortable. We used the pub for our evening meal which was very good. there was plenty of choice for breakfast which was cooked to order using local ingredient.

We stayed at the Old House at Home for a weekend whilst exploring the Cotswolds. Our welcome on arrival was lovely and our rooms were beautifully clean and very well appointed. Absolutely nothing to fault. We ate in the pub on both the evenings we were there and enjoyed very nice meals on both occasions. On both evenings the service was friendly and efficient. We were also very pleasantly impressed by breakfast with a self service array of cereals and juices complimented by a lovely full English!! You can probably tell from this review that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to going again.

I visited with my boyfriend on a hot summers Friday night as neither of us had been before and we were pleasantly surprised! Glad we booked as it was very busy! We both had Steak medium rare and it was pretty perfect! Lovely pub, nice staff and good food. Spot on!

Our first time staying here, but we will be back... Service was lovely, food very good, god choice of wine and room very nice... I found the bed a little soft but other than that a perfect place to stay just off the M4.

We recently stayed here as we were attending a wedding in the area. When we arrived we went through the pub and were taken straight to our room which was good as we were short for time and filling out the usual checking in paper work would have been a hassle. The room was nice (no. 6), a good size with a modern looking wet room bathroom. I noticed that it is a disabled room though which we weren't made aware of. This wasn't a huge problem except for when we wanted to take a shower. We are both tall and the shower is mounted low on the wall by the disabled shower seat and at the wrong angle. The bed was comfortable and we had a flat screen TV mounted on the wall. The Tassimo coffee machine was a nice touch.

Pros:
-Modern, well appointed room
-Good size
-Comfortable bed
-Nice cooked breakfast included
-Friendly staff
- Parking

Cons:
-The room was very warm. We didn't want to leave the window open during the night due to being close to the road and traffice noise. Could do with air con or a fan
- The bathroom could do with better ventilation
- There was a very strong chemical/bleach smell in the room. We could still smell it after we returned from a long day out and it gave me a headache
- The location - it states that it is in Castle Combe, but it is a few miles away
- Getting around. The local taxi companies are based in Chippenham and to take us from Burton a few miles down the road to Castle Combe was going to cost us £50 return as they charge a call out fee to get to Burton first - we drove to Castle Combe in the end as we couldn't justify that
-The price - we paid £145 for one night and I don't feel it was worth that
