“Poor value for money”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 January 2012

We were lucky to get a room in the hotel as it was Wellington Anniversary weekend and we were told that they would not usually book a room for just one night. As it was a really hot day, we were surprised that the rooms were not air conditioned, nor did they contain a fan, which made them very stuffy to stay in. We were there with our 3 month old daughter who they said they wouldn't charge us extra for as she is so tiny - she sleeps in her pram and was not taking up a bed. There was lots of traffic noise as the hotel is off a main road. Every encounter with the staff was mildly unpleasant as they were really grumpy (we had been warned about this previously). Overall we think you would get better value and a warmer welcome elsewhere.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away for the main road - Te Mata Road. It is noisy on the Te Mata Road side.

Good phone and e mail contact prior, were given an 11am check-out, Was not a problem
Should be a four star - no flat screen tv
Bed average - just
No play area for children
Brilliant as in walking distance of Black Barn
Pricey at $175 per night, as i dont believe this should be four and a half star rated
The lady was very helpful on the desk
Had to book two nights

We had a night there last week and the motel is clean, tidy and what you expect from a middle type motel. Bed was great etc. I do wish these places would spend alittle more money on Television Channels.Come on Guys its a modern world and we do like to watch T.V.! The lady was very nice and helpful on anything we asked her but when I went to ask to be let into the laundry do do our washing ( which advertised it was open till 9.30 pm) at 830pm approx avery grumpy man reluctantly let me in. The next morning i was walking across to pay for our night and walked passed the same Gentleman, I said a Happy Hallo and the response was a grumpy hallo and didnt even put his head up. Ok old Chap if you made the effort to be happy you might find you like doing your job in the people business!! if you did have something sad going on I apologise for my comment. Its all about people ......

Tried to book rooms for wedding guests for march 2012. Fronted up in person and asked if we could inspect rooms. Were told they would not take bookings for 1 years time because of potential conflict with horse of the year. Said we could wander round complex but too busy to show us a room. Now that horse of the year has been announced and does not clash, we have had friends ring up to book a room/rooms. Some have been told management will not book rooms that far out. Others have booked a room and then been sent emails saying, as motel have heard nothing further, booking cancelled. Those wanting to book more than one room told they wont take group bookings. With an attitude like this, DOES THIS MOTEL WANT TO BE IN BUSINESS! We will be telling all guests to make bookings at alternate motels in HAVELOCK NORTH.

First impressions count, and the very poor unhelpful and error ridden welcome I was given by the hotel manager was truly indicative of the level of service provided for the entire stay. We were one family within a group booking - 5 rooms in total. We won't be coming back!

Good website, rapid response to availability enquiry, booked 2 bdrm unit.....great location in middle of all wineries as names suggests, also about 25 mins from Waimarama beach which was fantastic...friendly manager, spacious unit..2 double beds which did not impress my 8 and 7 yr old sons but they coped! Arrived on a beautifully sunny day but unit was very dark. nicely decorated and clean. However, disappointed that seating accomodation in living area ( again spacious) consisted of 2 single beds with a solitary cushion on each, and 2 armchairs ( the type I associate with old people homes). We had take aways from village ( great choice and quality) but ended up sitting on floor to eat them!!! Bathroom is huge for a motel, shame there is only a tiny corner shower..could have been a real feature!! Overall, the motel was convienient for a night, but we were slightly disappointed given its 4.5 star rating.

We really enjoyed our stay here. We stayed in the 2 bedroom spa units which I would highly recommend. The rooms were very clean and modern. The fixtures and fittings were new and fresh looking. The staff were very helpful and friendly and service was unobtrusive. It was everything we expected and more.
