“Nice and Relaxing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 January 2014

This is a lovely estate that provides a good base for local activities as well as providing tranquility and relaxation. The rooms are clean and provide sufficient space; the garden is beautiful and has lots of interesting nooks and crannies. We certainly enjoyed the sunset with a glass of wine in the jacuzzi as well as lounging in the sun during the day.

After visiting friends staying at St Andrew's Escape we immediately knew it was the place for us.

We booked for one night, stayed for three; very reluctantly we had to leave on the fourth. As with almost all other reviewers, we would have loved to have extended our stay and will be back.

The rooms are clean, modern and the beds very comfortable. The grounds are truly unique, with surprises around every hedge - a place for everyone. At times it was hard to believe there were other guests in the place. Our favourite spot was the hidden lookout over the stream, which has a view across to the mountains in the distance and catches the evening sunset.

Our hosts were very friendly and attentive and made us very welcome. Breakfast under the vines with other guests was a restful way to start the day and an evening BBQ provided a relaxed social atmosphere with other guests if we wanted.

Magical place. Be sure to book an extra day if you have one and avoid leaving with regrets!

Our ideal hotel set up with an excellent balance between meeting people and our having own privacy. Exceptional on all ratings. Clean, stylish, amazing gardens, glorious hot tub in the garden with outdoor showers. John is an amazing host with a great vision for St Andrews Escape. Hope this doesn't become too popular that I can't get another booking.

We booked one night here and straight away wished it was for longer. The gardens are beautiful and ornate, and the facilities luxurious. The host was very welcoming and flexible about our ETA changing. So much hard work and energy has gone into making this place comfortable and relaxing- I highly recommend it.

Needing some time away after a few rough months, St Andrews Escape was a welcome haven of warmth and peace over the cold wet midwinter weekend. When we arrived late in the afternoon the king-sized bedroom was as warm and welcoming as our host. The guest lounge was a wonderfully comfortable place to sit and read, enjoy some of the CDs from their collection. We enjoyed demolishing a bottle of red wine while looking through some of their interesting art books. Our host told us about local exhibitions and other attractions, which we thoroughly enjoyed over the weekend. Being midwinter, we weren't tempted by the spa, but the gardens were in great shape and I particularly enjoyed the serenity of the pond. The decor throughout was distinctive and fresh with original artworks in the rooms and guest lounge. The breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice. We will be back in spring!

Room Tip: We had a king-sized room which was on the far end past the other rooms.

Found this place on the internet - looked good. It was wonderful - the rooms, guest lounge, outdoor dining, spa, gardens, outdoor both - couldn't have wished for anything more! My husband and I just loved it!

Room Tip: All the rooms were great - all with same outlook

One of the best B & B that we have ever been to: The hosts are very friendly and very attentive, caring for the needs of the guests: efficient and perfect.
The breakfast is tasty, refreshing home made fruitsalat (some fruits just out of the neighbourhood's orchards), good choice of cereals, heeps of jams and freshly brewed coffee or tea - served in the lovely garden area when it is sunny and warm, ... and mostly it is so.
The garden is just stunning: Flowers, well kept hedges everywhere, charming big pond, whirlpool out in the green or if you prefer a bathtube just in an other corner ... a relaxing spot, a little garden Eden or so.
The rooms are rather very clean, small, but designed with great taste, reminding you of the great art deco surroundings. The living room on the other hand is big, spacious, equally tastefully designed and invites you to have a drink or for a relaxed reading hour.
If you have got time ask John for a guided tour through Hastings. He will be able to show you around and explain to you many interesting details of the great art deco and mission style past of his home city.
