“A Havelock North Treat”
Reviewed 9 July 2014

I now come to Havelock every 6-8 weeks on business and this is an absolute must visit for me.
I have got to know the staff and the owners, they are all so friendly and accommodating.
Food once again was flawless, best eye fillet ever, with a wide variety of mixed plates to choose from, which we shared as starters. A great local beer, followed some amazing HB wines

Thanks again Paul and we will see you again soon.

“Well presented, tasty food in pleasant surroundings”
Reviewed 7 July 2014

This place caught our eye in the passing (we were staying nearby) and a quick glance of the menu gave us plenty to choose from so we took a chance with getting a table. Although it was a warm, pleasant Friday evening we were in luck - there were quite a few people on the decking but inside it was quiet and we got a table next to the open glass doors. This was handy as when it became cooler later we just closed the door over with minimal disruption - a few others moved indoors to join us.

Our female server was pleasant throughout the evening and our food was served in timely fashion to allow for short breaks between courses.

We ordered a bottle of Saint Clair Pioneer Block 18 Sauvignon Blanc from the decent wine list but nice as it was, at $55 I think it was showing a healthy mark-up.

For starters my wife enjoyed a mixed vegetable bruschetta and I opted for scallops served with chorizo and a cauliflower puree - a dish full of flavour. For mains my wife had a beautifully cooked piece of fish and I chose duck confit served with caramelised onions, baby carrots and cherries - again full of flavour and both dishes were nicely presented. For dessert I had fruit spring rolls with distinct orange flavours whilst my wife had carrot cake with ice cream to round off a fine meal. The food was $134 bringing our total bill to $189 (£100) which was not unexpected for the standard of food and service.

It was Paul, the owner, with whom we settled up and he came across as being a friendly guy, happy to chat with us prior to us leaving.

Based on our experience we could easily recommend The Post for a nice meal.

“Do not go in winter!”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

It was cold. They left us to put our coats over our chairs, little did we know that we were supposed to wear them. The restaurant has high ceilings and no noise baffling so a party of six was unbearable. So much for a special anniversary. Oh the food, some small potions and expensive for what it was, almost went for a Chinese takeaway afterwards.

“Left after the entree”
Reviewed 29 May 2014

This restaurant has much greater potential than is being realised.
The outdoor area is good but lacks any atmosphere. Food is over-priced for what you get and the service is average.

“Delactable”
Reviewed 17 April 2014

What a charming restaurant, on a cold wet night it was a pleasure to walk into such an warm inviting place. The food was outstanding, we started with shared plates for the 6 of us, we then all had our own Mains, fillet steak to die for, beautiful fresh fish and succlent lamb. Well done to the chef and the charming waitress.
