Okay, for some reason this place doesn't show under restaurants, so I've had to put it under hotels instead...
I took my wife here for her birthday last night. I've been looking for an excuse to come here, as I've only heard good things. I was immediatly impressed with the building, which has historical significance to the Hawkes Bay Region - it was the homestead of James Waittie, who of course put this place on the map for fruit and veggie production and canning. Very impressed with the layout, and I felt it seemed vagely familiar, like I'd been here before. Our host explained that there were 5 or 6 exact copies of the house built for Wattie's kids, the only remaining one now being Ormilie Lodge, another great eating and drinking venue in the Bay...no wonder the deja vu...!!
Gary our host for the evening took us through our evening, we did the 6 course (smallest of the options) degustation with wines. Not knowing much about wine, I left it to Gary to sort us out, and he did a remarkable job. Great to have such indepth knowledge given to us while we enjoyed the food and wine.
Top marks guys, a wonderful venueMore
