“Picturesque, peaceful and perfect.”
Reviewed 11 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

Such a lovely place to stay, the chalets are well equipped and there being only 6 it isn't overcrowded or noisy. To wake up everyday and see the sea out of the window was a proper treat, the tide doesn't go out very far so plenty of sandcastle building to be done as well.

Lovely friendly owners who are available at the drop of a hat, we had a slight issue with the electricity meter but they were straight round to fix it. You can socialise with fellow residents or keep yourself to yourself - the choice is yours,

Well placed for reaching local attractions and some lovely walks to be had.

“The perfect place to relax.”
Reviewed 18 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

The accommodation was clean comfortable and well equipped.
The large picture window made the chalet feel even more spacious.
Good information pack all you needed to know about chalet and places to visit.
Friendly manager who said to contact her if any problems or we needed any information.
Just siting watching the wildlife birds, rabbits, and the sunrise was a treat.
places we visited within half hour drive were well worth the drive, Logan Gardens, Port Patrick, Mull of Galloway.

“The best holiday we've had in ages :-)”
Reviewed 9 November 2015 for a stay in September 2015

Had a fabulous time with two of my adult children, their friend, my husband and our two dogs. The chalet was a super little place with easy enough space for five of us and the dogs. It was basically fitted but better than a lot of caravans I've stayed in and although you have to pay for the electricity by coin meter it's not expensive for a week's stay. The view and the space made it for us, massive floor to ceiling windows in the front of the chalet literally brought the sea and sky to our living room, every morning a different sunrise and at night the most beautiful moonrise which cast silver reflections over the sea. If you're a writer or an artist this is a perfect peaceful gettaway to feel the muse. The dogs had a cracking time running up and down the beach and hunting for rabbits in the dark. To be honest there are hundreds of rabbits when it gets dark so tripping over rabbits is a better description. The kids lit a campfire on the beach using the masses of fallen wood from the little wooded area behind the chalets which made for a lovely evening. Its a proper hidden surprise is Ardwell, considering the chalets are just off the main road through the village they could be a million miles away from it and there seems to be something for everyone. Fishing, boating, walking, cycling, sitting doing nothing. If you like gardens there are masses in Galloway and Ardwell House itself has beautiful gardens within easy walking distance of the chalets. Look out for owl sculptures, the family emblem, which are dotted around the gardens too. We went off season so there weren't many kids about but I'm told its extremely popular with families with young children and it's easy to see why, grass, sea and sand on the doorstep, what could be better? There are loads of ancient monuments to discover although I advise getting English or Scottish Heritage membership if you're going up there or it could work out a bit pricey. However the walks and cycling is all free and Galloway Forest Park, less than 30 minutes drive from Ardwell makes for a fantastic day out. Personally I think these chalets are an absolute bargain for what you get and I think the owners Chris and Aileen could make a lot more money from them than they do, so get in quick folks in case they take my advise! Would I come back again? Most definitely.

“Great Family Holiday”
Reviewed 7 September 2015 for a stay in August 2015

Just spent a week in the Chalets at Ardwell.
It is a beautiful spot - right on the bay which provides a lovely view with a beautiful sun rise.
The location is very quiet which allowed our daughter (18 months old) plenty of space to run around. Her favourite activities were throwing stones in the sea, digging on the beach and looking for rabbits.
There are plenty of places to visit in the local area.
The chalets are basic but very comfortable.
All in all a great family holiday - we are already planning our next trip!

Booked for 1 week , on arrival was met by a unspoilt ocean view , I got the chalet of my choice.
Was lovely watching sun rise/ sunset and a clear night sky of stars. We had lovely sunshine while it rained back home !
Both Chris the owner and Helen the manager were friendly and on hand to answer any questions and advise on local attractions ect.
Chalets were clean, 2 bedroom I took a travel cot which fitted snuggly into the bunk bed room.
There was washing up liquid , cooking oil, salt pepper a toilet roll bar of soap bleach - all these extras do make a big difference.
There was a TV in living room, kitchen had a fridge with small freezer compartment and microwave.
. £1 coins elec meter roughly used £2 a day
Now here's my gripe no signal no 3G or wifi
Nightmare when it came to use sat nav or Google to find attractions petrol station ect.
A car is a must as nearest shop is 3 mile away but we did find houses round about that sold eggs, jam, vegetables & fruit.
On a Sunday 2 lovely bread ladies pull up in their postman pat type van selling fresh bread , buns and treats mmmmm was yummy - would be even better if it was more than once a week but you can put a order in for a Friday delivery.
We visited Logan botanic gardens , lighthouse at mull of Galloway, port Patrick , port William & Logan fish pond to name a few.
*I think picking up your dog poo after your dog should be added to the rules as 1 chalet was just letting their dogs do business anywhere and not picking it up were children are playing! *
Hubby tried fishing numerous times but "sea wasn't deep enough"
There is a fishing tackle shop in the village that also sells ice creams & cans of pop.
We had a lovely relaxing break making lovely memories, would def recommend and would love to go back sometime.

Thanks for your positive review. I'm sorry we don't have WiFi or 3G but a lot of people find being away from it all part of the attraction, and we do provide a folder full of leaflets and maps on all the places to go.
We don't condone dog fouling and had you brought it to our notice we would have had a word with the appropriate people. We hope we'll see you both again next summer.

“Breathtaking corner of Scotland”

Me, the wife and our three-year-old boy stayed here for one week in July and it was absolute bliss. Fantastic views across the bay, a beach literally outside your front door and plenty to see and do. But best of all, this place is just so peaceful and quiet you soon forget everyday stresses and find yourself settling into a more laid back approach to life!

You’re within easy reach of Mull of Galloway Lighthouse and RPSB reserve, Logan Fishpond, Galloway Forest Park (don’t miss the Raider’s Road and its Otter Pool picnic spot), as well as little gems like the charming fishing village of Portpatrick and Scotland’s “Book Town” of Wigtown.

But you don’t have to go far to find beauty; in fact you don’t have to go anywhere! From the comfort of our chalet we watched seals lazing about in the shallows and our little lad loved nothing more than putting his wellies on and stepping out onto the beach to look for crabs or to throw stones into the sea!

Ardwell Gardens are a short walk away and are absolutely stunning – make sure you don’t overlook them. This is great birdwatching country too – buzzards and red kites are a common sight and we saw a grey heron in Ardwell Gardens, but the highlight was seeing a huge osprey being pursued by several angry gulls from our chalet porch!

The chalets themselves are a good size, clean, well-maintained and comfortable. There are some nice places to eat nearby too, particularly the uber-cool “StrEatery” – not cheap but the best “fast food” we’ve ever had and the continental soft drinks were amazing!

The people in the neighbouring chalets were most friendly and pleasant and said they’ve been coming back for years – after spending a few days here it wasn’t hard to see why. Our little boy keeps asking to go back and I’m already looking forward to turning off my mobile phone and heading back for some quality family time!
