“Simply the best”
Reviewed 13 August 2013

Arrived on the 10th August for 2 days, we were welcomed by Simon who offered us tea and cakes in the guest lounge and then showed us to our room and chatted about the local area and what we could expect, his knowledge made such a difference, it allowed us not to waste time and make the most of the area. We were in room 4 on the first floor, a lovely large and bright room with a sleigh bed and pillows to die for, I usually use my own pillow when travelling but no need in this case, the linen was fresh and white. The bathroom was spotless and the soft white bath sheets were a welcome change from the small towells you usually find, the Elemis bath products were lovely as were the other small touches you don't always get, such as the fresh milk in the fridge, a variety of teas, hot chocolate, home made biscuits, bottled water and fruit juices and a nice hairdryer. There was even a torch in case you went to the local pub (which we did) and it might have been too dark at one point on coming back. I can't comment on the breakfast because we didn't make it down ( nothing new for us) but I think the other reviews give you a good insight. It was the little touches that make this place special and not forgetting of course the fantastic home made fudge given to us when we left. Hope to go back soon.

We arrived on Friday afternoon 09/08/2013 for two nights at Swan Hill.suppose to stay for three.

We were warmly welcomed with tea and yummy lemon drizzle cake. The Hosts were very welcoming and very helpful.
the room was an absolute delight.. large room with a large bed with linen and pillows that you can just lay there forever and the mini fridge was full of juices and things. There were even home baked biscuits, cookies on a cookie jar yummy !!!
breakfast to die for.. every day was something special.. loved the home made food. we even got a packet of homemade marshmallow chocolate fudge delights to take home !!

Thank you for a lovely, relaxing stay and I have already recommended Swan Hill House to my friends.

Room Tip: any room is ideal . it is a lovely house.

We stayed here to visit River Cottage, it's about a ten minute drive away. The room looked beautiful and was spotlessly clean. The beds are comfortable with beautiful high quality sheets. There is wonderful attention to detail from the lighter duvet for summertime to fresh milk in the mini fridge together with local fruit juice and a good selection of fair trade tea and coffee. Lovely home made biscuits too.
The breakfasts were just delicious - home made musli and granola, fresh berries (some from the lovely garden behind the house), the most wonderful local thick yogurt, fresh fruit juices and a home made smoothie. The cooked breakfast was equally good with thick bacon and golden yolked eggs.
During our stay I accidentally stained the front a my dress. Libby was so helpful giving me some stain remover then Simon ran the dress through their washing machine and dried it returning it to me the next day. This I think is typical of their helpfulness throughout our stay.

We stayed there in August for 3 days, and I wish it had been a bit longer. The welcome was very warm from the start with tea and home-made cakes in the lounge to unwind after the journey. The whole house is beautifully decorated and welcoming. Our room on the ground floor was very bright, the bed very comfortable which made it difficult to get up in the morning, but it was worth it if only for the lovely breakfast which followed. The "specials" were very much appreciated. And I must also mention Elemis toileteries in the bathroom. I am sure we will be back.

We visited with friends in July and stayed two nights. They had stayed twice before and spoke highly of Swan Hill House and it definitely exceeded our expectations. From the warm welcome by Simon to saying goodbye the experience was first class. The food (homemade cookies and cake, and breakfast) was gorgeous and the rooms clean and pleasant. Each room also had some nice touches - wine glasses and a corkscrew, proper filter coffee and a fridge that was replenished with soft drinks and fresh milk. Simon and Libby were excellent hosts and Swan Hill House is a jewel in the B&B crown.

Beautifully decorated & well equipped rooms in a quiet village well located for touring the area. We stayed 3 nights (wedding at River Cottage HQ) & loved it. The breakfast specials were particularly good- cheese & herb cornbread, eggs benedict, smoked cheese rarebit - and Libby remembered my preference for green tea every morning (& put extra tea bags in the room for me, unasked, which was much appreciated!)

She & Simon also booked taxis & tables at local restaurants for us & were cheerful & charming at all times.

Rooms are stocked with Elemis products, & also a mini fridge with local juices & homemade treats (almond & lemon curd biscuits!). Simon made us a cuppa & chocolate brownies in the lounge when we arrived. There's also an attractive garden out the back, though the weather wasn't on our side for that.

Beds very comfortable (we stayed in room 7- King sized, en suite). The pub down the street did good food & Badger ales, & there's a post office opposite the B & B.

We stayed here for three nights in June and can only echo the well deserved excellent reviews from other guests.

The house, rooms, breakfast and service are wonderful - all organised by Simon and Libby who are lovely hosts. Faultless. We will be back - for a third visit.
