Description: Here at The Galley Topsham we want to impress you with 'the best of Devon on a plate'. We are passionate about serving you the freshest fish and seafood, simply and stylishly presented, together with exciting meat and vegetarian options sourced from local farms so we think we have something for everybody. We have a daily changing menu which means we only serve what is in season and locally available, so you can be sure that what you are eating is of the best quality. Our a la carte menu is available at lunch and dinner. At lunch we offer a special menu of two courses for £16. So whether it's a long lingering dinner, a light lunch or a business engagement we have something to suit you. We love wine and have worked hard to create a balanced wine list that includes top favourites along with some interesting options you may not be so familiar with. We are very happy to recommend a wine to go with any of our dishes so please do ask. The atmosphere in the restaurant is relaxed and friendly. We have no dress code and we warmly welcome families with children. Great food is nothing without great service however and we put a huge emphasis on matching the service to your needs. Nigel is on hand front of house to greet you with a friendly smile and make sure you relax and enjoy your meal. With our unique location on Topsham Quay and fabulous views over the River Exe you can soak up the atmosphere of this ancient sea port from the comfort of our two dining rooms.

“One of the best meals we have ever eaten”
Reviewed 16 May 2014 via mobile

The head chef , Dolton Lodge, is a former finalist for the young Master Chef of Great Britain award and it shows. The menu had inventive dishes, expertly prepared and cooked. Crab, scallops with black pudding (the best my husband had ever eaten), Brill and Sea Bass with various sauces and accompaniments, then creme brûlée and a cheese board which was big enough to share. £71 ish but worth every penny (and it is our anniversary,so it was great to find somewhere so fabulous. I would consider the 1 + 1/2 hour trip to eat here again for a special occasion. By the way they also offer a £16 2 course lunch.

“Excellent set lunch”
Reviewed 14 May 2014

The £16 two course lunch is a good way to try the cooking at this agreeable restaurant. We both had pan fried mackerel as a starter which was tasty. Then moved on to lemon cod. This was beautifully cooked, very subtle with crushed new potato and various vegetables. The standard of cooking was high. Service was friendly and attentive. There are desserts for around £6, but we didn't feel the need. Had coffee with lovely dark chocolates for £2.45. This place is of a high standard so the set lunch is very good value. Also enjoyed the view over the Exe

“Just wonderful! ”
Reviewed 13 May 2014 via mobile

What an experience, delicious food, great service, fabulous atmosphere and wonderful views of the quay. Can't wait to return and try more of the tantalising menu! ! The scallops and black pudding with pea shoots has to be one of the best starters we've ever tasted followed by duo of John dory and lemon sole (so fresh and melt in the mouth) while my partner indulged in sea bream with chorizo risotto, accompanied by a well chilled bottle of Sancerre- everything was delicious well done Nigel and head chef Dolton, a truly special evening. Thank you

“Delicious food that looked and tasted good”
Reviewed 10 May 2014

As this is a fish restaurant there were plenty of seafood dishes for my three fellow diners but I was pleased to see a vegetarian dish that sounded like more than the usual token fare. It was well presented and delicious - thank you. The service was friendly and professional.

“Really delicious lunch. Recommended”

M had scallops with black pudding & pea shoots to start, followed by sea bream. I had tempura squid, followed by plaice in batter with tartar sauce, mushy was and excellent chips. Nice service, quirky but very clean loos.
