“Rude, rude, rude and more rude”
Reviewed 5 May 2014

Went to enquire about booking for 12 people on a sat afternoon, chef, or someone from kitchen, was brought out to talk to me. He was rude, bull headed and unreasonable. They have missed out on an easy £120 for cakes, drinks and sandwiches. As a customer I have never been made to feel so unwelcome and spoken to by such a rude unreasonable person when trying to bring them business. Absolutely unbelievable.

“Just a cuppa”
Reviewed 23 April 2014

Popped in here for a cup of tea and coffee as it had begun to rain and we needed shelter. Not the kind of place I would go back to. Very disorganised and a bit grubby. The hot food being ordered looked ordinary, although the cakes on offer looked attractive. We decided not to have any, just stuck with the tea and coffee. The tea was ok, but the coffee was terribly weak. Not good, not even very nice.

“Needs a good clean and an eye for detail”
Reviewed 8 April 2014 via mobile

The food is as good as ever, but we have been going to The Cafe for years. The staff need direction, tables were being sprayed whilst open sugar bowls were still on the tables. Loo not clean. Details are important.

“Going down hill?”
Reviewed 9 March 2014

Often meet friends there for coffee/lunch. Usually have avocado and bacon sandwiches which are very good. Recently tried a "special" from the board, Mousaka which was not good. Oily mince with a couple of bits of potato and one bit of aubergine swimming in it. I told the waitress I would not have it again as it was very disappointing......no appology or offer of any refund.
On Saturday I had my usual which normally comes with a salad, coleslaw and crisps. These were forgotten and I had finished it by the time I got someone's attention. Again, no appology or reduction in price.
Customer care seems to have become unimportant which is why I have felt the need to write this review.

“Lovely place for a cake, a cuppa and a chat”
Reviewed 3 March 2014

Have been here several times for a cuppa and a cake and also popped in for snack lunch. Cake selection is always varied & all that I have tried have been lovely. In addition to the standard menu there are usually several specials on offer. Staff are pleasant but not always as helpful as they could be (didn't get offered toast even though it was part of the breakfast, had to ask for coffee refill) - cafe is usually busy though so this could be to blame. Nice atmosphere and always a hum of conversation makes it a lovely place to go for a chat. Minor downside is that there is only 1 toilet so there's nearly always a queue (fun part though is watching people try the door then try to decide whether to go back to their table or hang around conspicuously waiting!)
