Wow, what a treat. My wife and I fancied a little weekend away and do a spot of Christmas shopping in nearby Exeter.
We arrived late at the Salutation Inn and where immediately greeted with a warm and welcoming smile. We had enough time to freshen up before we strolled back downstairs to be served a Gin & Tonic with some incredible canapes. Perfect warm up for what was to come.
We where shown into the fine dining area, which was more formal than we expected but very cosy and welcoming. We soon felt relaxed with the friendliness of the staff. We chose the 5 course taster menu. I can honestly say it was one of the best meals I have ever had. It was an interesting menu, beautifully presented and perfectly portioned. The service was impeccable and friendly. The knowledge and choices of the sommelier was also very good. Perfect matching with the food.
We were spoilt rotten with the dinner and were very pleased that we only had to wander up stairs to get to bed.
If dinner wasn't enough we woke up to a delicious late breakfast and the Sunday papers. Perfect.

We will definitely visit again. Thanks for a great stay.

We stayed recently for 3 nights, ate in on one night. Very pleasant and characterful small hotel, delightful service, nothing was too much trouble. Very comfortable and clean bedroom and bathroom, 'galley' arrangement for early morning tea, etc: downside - it meant leaving your room - upside - a fair range of drinks and snacks on a help yourself basis. Excellent breakfast, good choice and beautifully presented. Evening meal is a relatively fixed taster menu, outstanding quality in our opinion, not sure we would have wanted it for more than a couple of nights because of the somewhat limited choice.

We stayed for one night at the Salutation and had a very pleasant stay. We have visited Topsham before but the Salutation was closed for refurbishment. We thought we would give it a try and were not disappointed. The ambiance is boutique chic and is not that of a dowdy Devon backwater hotel. The rooms are comfortable without being lavish. They have an interesting take on in room refreshments. They did not provide in room tea/coffee making facilities in our room but do provide access to a 'Galley' where guests can go can make tea/coffee and they provide a selection of snacks and other refreshments. This did not spoil our stay and we were impressed with the what the galley offered us. The most outstanding aspect of our stay was the service and the food. The staff were attentive and courteous and ever ready to assist and serve you. We had the five course menu in the fine dining restaurant which was excellent. The breakfast was of equality and could not be faulted. Would we stay here again when we come back to Topsham? Definitely!

We have been going to Topsham for many years and this used to be a very tired old pub. It closed for over two years for complete refurbishment and this can only be described as time very well spent.

We arrived to a very warm welcome and even though we were very early (1230) we were booked into our room in no time.

Rooms are not huge but beautifully decorated and as with everywhere in the hotel you get the impression that no expense has been spared to make things perfect.

We had booked into their five course tasting menu and this can only be described as sublime.
Real mushroom soup, mackerel with orange sauce, goats cheese and beetroot, beef, cheese (an extra) and then a cocolate gateaux.

All were beautifully presented and had a depth of flavour that shows immense skill and trouble.

The beef was very similar to one I had with Tom Kerridge in Marlow and would have to say was slightly better. No greater compliment !

Throughout the service was friendly but impeccable. One of my pet hates is when they open the wine, pour you a glass and then move the bottle out of reach. The service was so good here that I didn't even notice.

If you love good food this is highly recommended as a great place to relax.

We stayed as a party of 8 in four rooms and had a wonderful time. The experience was perfect from the booking process on the phone to the point we left. The service is professional, the rooms are comfortable and modern. Room 7 as a suite is superb. Most of us had the 9 course menu in the fine dining restaurant which was delicious. Breakfast the next morning was equally good. I found this place thanks to searching the area on Trip Advisor and would recommend it without hesitation. We will definitley go back

Room Tip: Room 7 at the top floor is private and large and can be offered as a suite with seperate sitting roo...

We stayed 2 nights in this little treasure last weekend and had a great time. We had the Sunday supper and it was delicious and beautifully presented. The breakfasts were fresh and extensive, the service was friendly and personal and the rooms were clean and very comfortable as well as being modern in style. As a previous reviewer has said the galley is a brilliant idea for tea/coffee and snacks and we took some tasty marmalade home with us!
We have to go back again to try the evening menu - can't wait!

Room Tip: Rooms on the back are quieter if the windows are open.

The owners of the Saluation have spared no expense to create a restuarant with rooms in ever popular Topsham. My wife and I enjoyed a one night away for the just the two of us and found the staff attitude upbeat with a subtle proffessionalism that meant you immediately felt at home. The decor is a meld of modern style and historic celebration with attention to detail rarely seen in even the most highly rated boutique hotels.
We had a Sunday evening dinner in the restuarant which was execellent, it was just a shame that the restaurant was quiet - but most restaurant don't bother with a Sunday night at all. The breakfast choice was both extensive and well prepared - if this wasn't enough the hotel rooms benefits from a shared 'galley' which is a brilliant idea.
We will be back - and just hope that more people frequent and support such passionate local businesses.
