Simply must warn people about this place. It is truly grim - the toilets were filthy, there were cockroaches in the kitchen, massages are performed in a rickety shack with smelly old foam mattresses which don't ever appear to have been changed. Air freshener (!) is sprayed on your face as part of the 'treatment' and then they set the floor alight as an original 'gimmick' with absolutely no thought to health and safety or the extremely flammable wooden furniture/walls/beds nearby. The Temezcal was a joke. The lady who performs this ancient Mexican ritual combines it with (ancient Indian) Kundalina mantras and gets us all to chant "Ma" and "Pa" and beg their forgiveness whilst sitting on a dirt floor after having covered ourselves with itchy clay. Oh - and she also works in the kitchen as well, as do most of the other people providing spa treatments.
The rooms are very basic and feel cold and damp. Am not convinced that the food was 'macrobiotic' as they didn't even understand the concept of vegetarianism (offering picadillo as a vegetarian meal option. Picadillo contains ground beef!).
Be warned if you book the facial as the lady who gives them is apparently a smoker and you can smell the nicotine on her fingers as she runs them over your face.
The food was passable, although mostly cold. It becomes less passable when you discover that it is prepared in a cockroach infested kitchen, however.
Unfortunately we didn't get to try out the swimming pool due to the bad weather, however I must say that I would feel more comfortable with it being chlorinated in the light of everything I have witnessed at this hotel. They are enormously proud of the fact that it is filled with spring (tap?!) water.
I am really struggling to find anything positive to say about this place. Oh - the cats. The cats wandering about the property are very cute and friendly, although I understand this may not be appealing to everyone.
My tip to anyone reading this is to pay a bit more and go to a real holistic spa hotel.
You have been warned!
