“Peaceful location”
Reviewed 28 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

Well equipped and comfortable gite in a beautiful and peaceful location. The Egyptian private terrace provides a panoramic view across the Dourbie Valley. Use of the garden was great for our 11 year old daughter and two dogs, especially in the evening when we enjoyed a game of pétanque. Peggy and Lionel were extremely welcoming and very helpful with their wealth of knowledge of the local area, places of interest, walks etc. Highly recommended to anyone looking to completely escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

“Stunning scenery in a peaceful surrounding”
Reviewed 20 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

This was our second visit to this gite, having visited previously in 2013. The owners, Lionel and Peggy live in the attached chateau and we could not have hoped for more helpful hosts. Their knowledge of the area is exceptional; and what an area this is. Beautiful forested gorges separated by the higher plateaux or causses. The village is well located as starting off point to visit the many wonderful sites in the Aveyron and neighbouring Gard departments. Very peaceful, so if you are looking for lots of nightlife, then this is not for you. If, on the other hand you enjoy a peaceful and relaxing holiday in the midst of outstanding scenery, then have a serious look at the website - Castel de Cantobre.

Thank you for the nice review from another returning guest and thank you for your advice about the nightclub, it's firmly off the menu. Our guests who want a more active holiday usually just want to relax anyway after a hard day's walking, cycling, canoeing, climbing, paragliding...
We hope to see you again before your 50th wedding anniversary.

Best wishes,

Lionel and Peggy.

“Scenic Roost in Dourbie Valley”
Reviewed 18 May 2015 for a stay in May 2015

We stayed in the Egyptian Gite in Castel Cantobre in mid May 2015. This is a Hill walker's & Bird Watcher's paradise, with Eagles, Vultures & Kingfishers seen in the 3 days we were there (plus many others I have no name for, not being a "twitcher"!). The gite is spacious, well equipped and easy to live in, with UK TV via satellite and loads of extra facilities such as DVDs, Games - even a GPS device to ensure you stay on the paths in the mountains! The terrace is South facing and well protected from the wind being below a 30' high cliff. It has spectacular views down the Dourbie Valley and surrounding rocky peaks. Castel Cantobre is situated, as the owners described, high on a rock, there are no viable roads inside the village which is tiny and confined to around 20 properties. There is a Restaurant but it is only open in peak season (forgive the pun!!) so Nant, 6 km away, is the only place to eat - there is a reasonable selection of Restaurants there; Le Sanglier Hilare was our favourite. They took us and our dogs in after we had come down from the peaks above Nant and were soaked to the skin - then gave us an excellent lunch! We happily recommend both Castel Cantobre and the Egyptian Gite - the owners even booked a reservation for us at a restaurant in St Rome de Cernon (La Gare) which was the most food (and some of the nicest) we've eaten in a long time and was incredibly cheap!

“Stunning location - a little piece of heaven”

It was all we were hoping for and more. We got remote but not too remote. The bed was comfortable and the gite had everything we needed with our own terrace overlooking the valley. The garden simply had the best views. The village is quite remarkable but above all the owners are very special, nothing is too much trouble. The website is fantastic and we even used it whilst there to access information about the area. We have self-catered many, many times - this is one of the very best. We loved it here.

“Tranquil, peaceful retreat with views!”
Reviewed 12 January 2014 for a stay in December 2013

Our stay over the Christmas/New Year period was exceedingly peaceful and relaxing. Lionel and Peggy were fantastic hosts from the very warm and friendly welcome we received, to the farewell parting, and with loads of helpful advice throughout our stay! The gite was clean, warm and very well equipt. We loved the location- the whole hamlet clings to the rocky outcrop- and the fact that the gite is built into the rock face and is so remote. The remoteness could be a negative but we did understand this and made sure that we were well prepared with provisions, (there is no nipping out for milk!) but the views of the valley were stunning, which more than made up for this and the weather was fabulous (we had many sunny, warm days) over our two weeks. With the hamlet being so small and space a premium, parking is on the road outside the hamlet, though you can enter it to unload and load your car. The nearest town of Nant is 6kms where there are several shops and a small supermarket- but opening hours in the winter were short. Millau, only 27kms away through the gorge, has several supermarkets and was a fascinating town to explore. The glove museum certainly gives you an insight into the development of Millau. The gite was an excellent centre for exploration- the Mediterranean is only 1 hour away. There are many wonderful gorges to explore and hills to walk and villages to explore. We certainly enjoyed our time spent here!

“Fantastic view and excellent value for money”
Reviewed 2 October 2013 for a stay in April 2013

We received a very warm and friendly welcome from the owners, who helped to get our luggage to the gîte as it is a short distance from the parking area. The little hamlet is charming and the location affords wonderful views, particularly from the terrace of the gîte itself. The accommodation is pleasant and the gîte is very well equipped. The area has dramatic scenery and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

“Peace and quiet with stunning views”
Reviewed 19 August 2013 for a stay in June 2013

This was one of our best holidays ever. The scenery is out of this world and there are many interesting places to visit. Our accommodation was first class with everything you need for self catering(except food!). Our hosts Lionel and Peggy made us feel very welcome so much so that we didn't want to leave! The village of Cantobre is beautiful and picturesque and the town of Nant is a5 minute drive away with shops and also a market during the summer months. If you like peace and quiet this is for you.

Thank you for your nice comments, we try to give all our clients a holiday to remember. We are lucky to have a property that gives stunning views in all directions with the gîte's private terrace looking one way and a shared terrace looking another while from our garden and high rock, which is easily the biggest in Cantobre occupying about 10% of the village, you can see the views in all directions.
We hope to see you again...
