Take a jumper - it's icy cold down in these caves!
We thought this would probably turn out to be quite a small scale thing but the caves are most extensive, and really magnificent - like a spooky film set. We parked our car under trees, bought tickets from a friendly woman, and then were free to climb down an enormous, damp, cold staircase. The visit is un-guided but there are numerous panels with pieces of information about what was around, and there is a little son et lumiere surprise at the far end of the fist chamber.
There's a low-key little cafe, and there are toilets.
