Not only is it great value at $15 for a family ticket it is informative, and there is so much to do and learn about in a fun way. The awesome touch pool was such a great way for the girls to learn and touch sea animals and the guide was so friendly and it was very educational. The Leeuwin video had us all glued to the screen in interest. There is just so much to see and do. We spent a few hours there without even realising it.

If you are sick of the prices at AQWA consider taking your kids to the Naturaliste Marine Discovery Centre at the northern end of the northern carpark at Hillarys marina. Only $15 for a family ticket and there are lots of things for children to do - a brilliant touch pool, marine animal dress-ups, a few tanks with fish, turtles and other sea creatures, watch marine scientists at work in the lab, make your own badge, see how much you weigh in fish (yes, really - it gives your equivalent weight in numbers of fish!), etc etc. You might stay less than an hour, but it's a great cheap outing for the family. It is run by the Fisheries Department so there is quite a large educational content, too. They run brilliant school holiday programmes where kids get out into the water (very shallow for young children, more adventurous for older kids) and learn about the marine life. Highly recommend.

This is a great little educational facility with scientists working to help maintain the WA marine environment. It is amazing value for money, with a family ticket costing just $15!

We took our 3 year old son and 10 year old daughter and they both really enjoyed it. Our 3 year old actually sat trough the 10 minute movie presentation happily as the footage changed regularly and there were some sharks in it to keep him happy. His favourite part was being able to touch a bamboo shark in the touch pool, along with starfish sea cucumbers, sea anemones and other creatures. The touch pool is responsibly run, you have to wash your hands with sea water before touching anything and a staff member is there to supervise and educate you. The only thing our 3 year old didn't like was the scary 3D shark hologram.

Our 10 year old especially loved seeing the scientists working in their lab, using equipment that shaves a paper thin cross section of what I think were fish vertebrae in order to age them and help maintain the natural marine environment in conjunction with sustainable fishing. You can help them by taking in the skeletons of any fish you catch o that they can be processed in just this way. We stood there for some time watching their work, which was viewable through a soundproof window (I would have loved to have heard what they were saying!).

There are also some fish tanks to see and also some windows into the 'back of house' fish areas. There's a small gift shop and courtyard, too.

Overall, it's not a huge place, but well worth the visit with small children, especially if you're visiting Hillary's Boat Harbor, which is a beautiful spot full of pricey yachts/boats. There is alo the AQWA aquarium just 1 minute drive away on the south of the harbour, but you can't beat the Naturaliste Marine Discovery Centre for value and education.
