“Tuscany at Il Pogetto in Tulip.”

This time last year in Italy we were basking in autumn sunshine.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Tulip at Il Pogetto. The accommodation was excellent and a great location for touring the Chianti Region of Tuscany and its cultural hot spots of Florence, San Gimignano and Siena. Nearby Certaldo Alta was an unexpected treat.

We were well looked after by Marcello who allowed us to help with the olive harvest and view his wine and olive cellar.

If you want character and a warm welcome go there. Truly Bella Toscana.

“Relax”

After visiting the Cinque Terre, Portofino and Pisa, we spend a week in Tulipo, searching for some rest in the neighbourhood of San Gimignano.

Another review stated that Tulipo is a villa, it's not. It is a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom, kitchen/eating area, terraced apartment in a building with 3 other apartments and the rooms where the owning family resides. There is 1 other bungalow on the property.

Compared to other houses/apartments whe stayed in in Italy in the past, this was the best apartment. Everything was clean, the 2 bathrooms were small but in a very good state with excellent showers, the bedrooms are good-sized, the terrace is south-oriented with sunshading.

The pool has a size of 12,5m x 6m. That's surely big enough for 4 apartments and the residing family. Also on the property: a BBQ, a pizza-oven, toys for the pool, table-tennis, soccer-table.

We were welcomed by Tamara, who came right out of the pool.
During our week we noticed that the residing family, other family and occasional friends also make use of the pool. That didn't bother us because it gave a "homely" touch to our stay.
Tamara and her father Marcello are the contacts for the guests. Although knowledge of English is not very good, everything gets arranged.
If you're on the property when the family gathers around the pool in the afternoon, you will get a share of the refreshments the family serves.
You can buy local produced wines and oil and honey.

The property has a reasonable view (distance) on San Gimignano.
The views on the surrounding amazing Tuscan landscape are somewhat blocked by the hedge on one side of the pool.
Since the other residents of Il Poggetto visited the surrounding cities (Siena, Firenze, San Gimignano, ...) every day, we had some days on which the property was "our own". Very relaxing.

Some points of attention:
- You will need the GPS co-ordinates to find the property without driving around and asking local non-speaking residents. We did not find the road on ViaMichelin nor on Google Maps. You will find a "localita San Benedetto", but not the road itself.
This has a positive side, the area is very quiet!
- There was a lack of wine and digestive glasses.
- The oven is very small.
Not the fault of the property but the biggest nuisance are the mosquitos. The minute we arrived we were attacked. You can try to protect yourself (sprays, special candles, chemical tablets in the bedrooms, ...) but you will only get a 95% protection.

All in all we had a nice relaxing stay in Tulipo at Il Poggetto, and we would recommend the place to others.

“Outstanding views and fantastic amenities”

Tulip is fabulous. It is one of several villas at Il Poggetto. My husband, 9 year old daughter, and I spent one week there. Our two bedroom was absolutely perfect, and it would sleep three more for bigger groups. The kitchen amenities were plentiful. But the best part is the view. It's absolutely beautiful. Everything is clean, I mean impeccably spotless, and the pool area was just wonderful, too. The owners are so kind and laid-back. You are given a bottle of wine at arrival. Lastly, the cost was so reasonable!
