“Lovely food strange tap water”

Enjoyed a trip here to tick off the last distillery on our trip. Didn't do the tour but clearly popular as all tours were sold out. Good value at £7 including 2 drams and a Kilchoman glass. Uniquely they malt their own barley from Islay grown grain. You could try 3 of their more standard malts for £5 or 3 of their more complex ones for £10 which was reasonable

We enjoyed a lunch of Cullen Skink in their cafe which was delicious and came with two large pieces of rustic brown bread. The tap water is interesting as it is slightly brown from the distillery's own spring and is served in Whisky bottles!! Malts bought at lunchtime were very reasonably priced and probably better value than the testers.

The road down to the distillery has been patched but there are still a lot of potholes.

Worth a visit if only for lunch!

We visited the Kilchoman distillery and had a bite of lunch here. The cullenskink was really first class, freshly made, creamy and generously fishy. Served with crusty bread, a real winner on a cold day.
Coffee good too, only one small criticism was that the flapjack was very sweet!
A very welcoming café, good selection of freshly made food and very friendly service.

A great little place part of the farm distillery serving excellent food and a good range of gluten free options. Tie your visit in with a distillery tour and make a half day of it. A little out of the way but worth it.

I have to disagree with the majority of the reviews and I don't know if we caught the cafe on a bad day. The tables and floor were dirty with crumbs and discarded food. We ordered teas and a coffee to go with some cakes. The cakes arrived but fifteen minutes later no teas. The system seemed to break down as the girl making the teas also took the orders at the counter and broke off from tea-making to deal with arrivals. Just what the other girls around the serving area were doing was not clear. When we gave up on the drinks and tried to pay for what we had had there was no one on the cafe till so we had to pursue the sales staff in the souvenir shop to pay. I would not recommend this cafe over the many other cafes and tearooms on Islay.
