“Very good - just a few niggles”
Reviewed 3 August 2012

From the moment you arrive you are well looked after by the staff, who were very effecient. We stayed in a garden view suite in Aug which was very good apart from our child's bed, a little camp bed, not the standard we were expecting and the view was not a garden but mainly the road. We went half board which we regretted doing so as we wanted to stay in the village area but not all the restaurants are available on the half board basis that we could easily walk to, so alot of the other restaurants in the village we couldn't go to which was a shame.

All in all this is a fantastic resort especially if you have younger children but we felt it was abit too soulless and would rather see abit more greek authenticity.

Room Tip: Choose a ground floor room overlooking the pool

We booked a week at Porto Sani before the economic and political situation in Greece looked so precarious. We (like many others) thought about cancelling but in the end didn't. I'm glad we did not. The resort is great - clean, chic and scorching (welcome after the UK's awful summer).

The staff were uniformly excellent. Friendly, courteous and efficient. We had a ground floor suite which was fine though a little on the small side. Our two kids slept in the "lounge" part of the suite on a Z bed and the sofa. The latter was not a sofa bed - she literally slept on the sofa! This was hard and frankly too small for an 11 year old. Given the astonishing price we were paying for a week it was not really good enough. That and the overall lack of value for money in upmarket Greece means I have rated the resort as only very good. Otherwise it would be excellent.

We were on the half board package but given the drop in value of the euro this turned out not to be as wise an investment as we had hoped. The restaurants in the hotel were fine but service could sometimes be slow. Much better to eat in one of the places round the marina. There were at least 6 to choose from and most gave an allowance for half board guests of the Village. Tomato claims to be one of the best restaurants in Europe. I find that an incredible suggestion. Give it a miss. The two Greek places were much better and far more welcoming as well as being better value for money.

The beach looked good but it was too hot for us to spend much time there. In the early evening we did venture out to the beach by the Sani Hotel as they had a nice selection of watersports. Hiring bikes is a fun way to get around the resort but £150 for four bikes for 5 days seemed steep.

When we left we were given a letter telling us to tell all our friends that they should come to Greece as there are no real problems and the Greeks need our support. I am happy to do so as we saw nothing that would make us concerned about our safety if holidaying in Greece again. What was noticeable was the almost complete lack of German tourists. They have clearly been scared away by the anti German sentiment reported by the German media. Their place has been taken by very large numbers of Bulgarians and one can not help but wonder whether they are all paying the very high prices UK visitors are expected to pay. The main problem Porto Sani and Greece have is that whilst they are nice and friendly and the place is warm with some interesting countryside and culture, the same can also be said of Turkey and Croatia. And both those places are much much much better value for money. Greece needs to get out of the Euro and devalue its currency so it can compete with those places. If it does the tourists will come flocking back.

Room Tip: Try and get a suite near the pool and restaurant. Some can be quite a schlep away - no fun when its...

Have just returned from what was our best family holiday yet - this is the only place we have visited so far that we intend to repeat.

Sani resort is centred around a very pleasant marina, which really comes to life in the evening once the heat of the day has disappeared. 4 different hotels offering differing types of accommodation make up the 'resort' though Sani Beach Club is rather a trek away, particularly if you have young children, though a regular shuttle bus takes guests throughout the resort and enables everyone to try the various restaurants.

We stayed at Porto Sani Village - suite accommodation on only 2 levels in contrast to Sani Beach hotel which is a high rise traditional hotel. Sani Asterias is the top end hotel but we did not visit this one - seems to be more exclusive/adult orientated.

Service was of an incredibly high standard throughout Porto - the welcome by reception who then greeted us by name throughout our stay, the pool waitresses who were always on hand to take drink and food orders, the restaurant and bar staff who memorised favourite drinks within a couple of days, the concierge and the manager who was a constant presence checking with guests that all was well.

The rooms are of an exceptional standard - very clean, very modern and wonderfully comfortable beds. Note that the third bed for a child is the sofa or a put up bed in the lounge. The only downside to the 'garden view' room that we thought we had booked was that whilst the front overlooked the gardens, the balcony/terrace actually overlooks the access road, which has a steady stream of traffic and which meant our hopes of relaxing in the evening with a glass of wine were thwarted.

The pool meanders around the centre of the hotel and has various sections of differing depths, so older children don't disrupt younger childrens play. A lifeguard is on duty all day and there are plenty of pool toys available. Pool attendants remove used towels once guests depart and replace with clean towels - they also prevent people 'bagging' their favourite spot and then disappearing off for hours. This was never an issue for us as there was always plenty of space around the pool, so we chose a spot for the morning, went off for lunch, then chose a different spot with fresh towels for the afternoon. This was a sharp contrast to the pool at the Sani Beach Hotel which seemed to be overflowing every time we went past.

A section of the beautiful beach is reserved for Porto guests and again, there are attendants to ensure you have everything you need, and a kids corner where children can be entertained in the shade whilst parents relax in the sun.

We took the half board option and took advantage of being able to use our daily allowance in the many restaurants dotted around the resort. Tomata was a favourite, despite a little hiccup with an uncleaned scallop which was dealt with professionally and promptly. There are 2 buffets - one at Sani Beach Hotel and one at Sani Beach Club - the quality and ambience at the latter was by far the best. The Greek taverna 'Ouzerie' was the only really authentic Greek restaurant and the food quality was amazing. The only downside in all the restaurants was that there is an abundance of wasps at night which were very annoying and upset quite a lot of people as they swarmed around the food. The restaurants attempt to combat this by burning Greek coffee in bowls on the table, but this is only partially successful and creates an awful lot of smoke which did spoil a couple of meals. The only way to avoid this is to eat inside, but given the beautiful views at many restaurants, I would recommend trying to put up with it!

We didn't take advantage of the evening entertainment as it was too late for our son to cope with (childrens show doesn't start until 9pm) but there is a lot available, and I hope in a couple of years we will be able to make the most of it.

Given all the above, prices are relatively high throughout the resort, but if you want quality, then you need to be prepared to pay for it.

The resort is a 45 minute drive from Thessaloniki airport, which has a water park (Water Land) nearby - a great day out if you have a car, but a rather expensive taxi ride if not. Halkidiki in general is relatively cheap compared to the rest of Europe and even other parts of Greece at present - I read on the plane back that prices are roughly 44% less than Corfu.

Highly highly highly recommended!

My family & I sayed at Purto Sani Village for 2 weeks in June 2012 and had the most amazing holiday.
From the moment we arrived until the moment we sadly left, was fantastic. The weather was beautiful, the hotel was excellent, the pools and beach were perfect, the food was exceptional and all the staff went out of their way to ensure you were having the best holiday.
I have never wrote a review on a holiday or hotel before but as we had such a fantastic holiday, I feel the need to congratulate the manager Sakis and all the staff there for making our stay truly memorable, I can only echo all the other excellent reviews about the hotel and we can't wait to return.

Our 4th time back at Sani & still love it as much as ever.

Fantastic resort that offers everything.

Porto Sani is truly 5 star hotel & the abundance of staff really try to meet your every requirement in an entirely professional manner.

The beach at See You with reserved area for Porto guests is fantastic. Beautiful beach & water. Great cocktails & food. The manager is forever trying to make it even better & has arranged this year a supervised kids play area which is great if you need a little break from your children!

The restaurant there at night should not be overlooked - although not on the dine around programme - it probably has the best food - and for sure the best view for sunset.

Be sure to ask the manager for anything you need & he will arrange it!

No complaints - will be back

I visited the resort with my wife for a week in June. It was our first and not last visit to Greece and Sani resort. The friendly staff met us willing to make our vacation unforgettable. The high quality of food and service impressed us at Artemis restaurant. Mr. Milkhales and Ivana were taking good care of us at breakfast and dinner. Victoria was the person who was always there for whatever we needed such as booking dinners, organizing trips and booking sunbeds at the boutique hotel. Stella at the Spa suite was helpful too. We had an amazing stay and surely we will go back again next year.

All I can say is that first time we went to this place was 9 years ago and have not changed our mind since then! We have been returning since then. I was 12 then, and I'm 21 now, which makes me able to say that this place is suitable for ALL ages and family members! Highly reccommended!!!
