“BEST FAMILY HOLIDAY RESORT IN EUROPE”
Reviewed 16 August 2014

I was nervous about booking Porto Sani Village after an awful holiday at Daios Cove last year. Our 6am flight from Manchester took 3 hours 10 minutes. We were welcomed at the airport by Sani staff and given cold bottles of water, our driver took us to an air conditioned Mercedes - from time of landing to arrival at the hotel took 1.5 hours - very good.

On arrival you are welcomed and taken to Sea Breeze bar for a complimentary drink which could be anything you wanted - I had chilled glass of champagne. If you arrive early your room may not be ready so make sure your children (and you) have swimsuits in the hand luggage you take to the bar so they can cool down in the pools. Sakis the Manager (he is always around speaking to guests) welcomes you and one of his team - we had the lovely Lina run us through all the resort information. You become very aware of the excellent service you are going to receive during your stay and how important it is to all the staff that everything is to your liking. At this point try to book most of your dinner reservations for your stay - you can make changes later but most popular ones get fully booked quickly. A very special mention to Christina who will help with any special requirements. We had a Marina view room on first floor which was very nice and Christina had arranged for a standard single bed for our 11 year old son which was very much appreciated. There was a complimentary bottle of wine and water plus fruits in the lounge area when we got to our room. Comfortable beds - big fluffy soft pillows, TV in lounge with DVD player and bedroom and Bose sound dock. Air con was very good and quiet at night. We didn't feel the extra price for marina view was worth it as you have the restaurants and cafes between rooms & marina so can be noisy early morning with delivery trucks. Good size balcony and curtains include blackout curtains. You get complimentary bottles of water every evening at turndown service. The room has tea, coffee and kettle and a larger than average mini fridge. A short walk into the Marina there is a well stocked supermarket where you can get wide range of drinks, food and snacks. The 2 bedroom suites are all on the ground floor.

Porto Sani Village is in great central location in Sani Resort - it is an oasis of calm and pools are exclusive use for Porto Sani guests only. To get to the Beach Club there is a shuttle bus service which runs every 20 minutes. We were glad we were not staying there as couldn't be bothered taking a bus. The beach hotel is a 5 minute walk or you can take golf buggies.

Porto Sani has its own reserved area on the beach with very nice loungers which you can make a reservation for - great staff on the beach with excellent service. There is a beach buddie service where staff look after young children in the shade with toys etc - great idea. Beautiful sandy beach - crystal clear warm water.

Pools as I said are for exclusive use - 2 shallow childrens pools, 2 deeper pools and a separate adults only pool. You cannot reserve sunloungers before 10am and you wont need to as there are plenty of them and even in August there were always ones free. And these are sunbeds - 6 inch deep mattress soft as marshmallows! Service around the pools for drinks is first class.
For lunch there is a good menu at Sea Breeze bar (prawn Caesar, club sandwich very nice) and a more formal and expensive menu at Lagoon restaurant in the middle of the pools. The Lagoon restaurant needs to include the main meals off the Sea Breeze bar on the menu as not comfortable trying to eat off low coffee tables in Sea Breeze bar - that is just a suggestion.
Excellent breakfast is served in the Artemis restaurant and there is a very large buffet selection to choose from plus you can have anything off the a la carte too. There is an area set aside where young children can play whilst parents eat. We were told that it could be very busy before 10am with families eating breakfast to get their children to kids club for 10am start. Again for August we had breakfast around 9am and it never got busy - never saw all tables used or anyone waiting for a table.

We were on half board dine around option but we did not think it was worth having so next time we will go bed & breakfast as like to have room service some nights. In some of the restaurants your food is covered by half board - others you get a 25 euro per adult and 12.50 euro per child credit against the bill. Sea You Up restaurant is not in dine around. So quick summary of restaurants we ate in:
Artermis - very good food with new menu each day - Sunday is seafood festival which was very expensive and we only did once and would not do again. Wednesdays is greek night but we did not go.
Ammos - the best restaurant by far in a stunning location by the beach - highly recommended.
Macaroni - covered on dine around - 4 courses - food average and service very slow.
Tomata - good food and novelty make your own salad starter.
We had takeaway sushi from Sea You Up restaurant as could not get booked for a table - met female chef who used to work as chef at Nobu in London - say no more - no wonder it's so popular.
Dine around does not include room service.

Marina is busy in the evenings with lots of guests from Sani Beach Hotel & Club - lots of restaurants, shops, cafes - nice evening walk.

Spa is excellent - best massages ever by Elenis had full body and then Indian head massages.

Wednesday night White Party at Bousoulas Beach is a must - great fun.

Bousoulas beach is lovely and on windy days you can play in the waves. You can get a golf buggy there and back - this beach is also used by locals who can pay to use loungers.

My son was in the Teen Club - good selection of activities which they can pick what they want to do - thank you to Callum. They meet over at Sports Centre near Melissa Mini Club at 10am - 5 minute walk.

He also went to Soccer Academy 6 to 8pm every evening except Sunday run by the excellent Jamal. My son loved this but the time was very late especially to go to dinner after.

There is an open air cinema, open air theatre, bike hire which is very popular with kids. Tennis was very busy.

We went over to Sani Beach Hotel one day when my son was doing try scuba in the pool - it was mobbed - too busy. There is another pool on the other section of the hotel but not a lot of loungers there.

We to Sani Beach Club again busy - loungers on beach being used by locals. Beach area narrow and rocky on sea edge with gap in middle to access the sea.

Asteria Suites look stunning especially beachfront ones - very exclusive.

On our last day we chartered the Sani 35 foot sailing boat with skipper - it was the icing on the cake - fabulous day.

If you fancy a short taxi ride go the Ta Kymata (The Waves) fish restaurant in Nea Fokea - waterfront open air tables - great food - try small fried fish, fried zucchini, octopus, greek salad - great prices.

Porto Sani Village is superb with outstanding service and all the staff are fantastic and friendly - it is perfect for families - we loved it so much we have already booked to go back next August with friends. See you there....

Summary: Not quite perfect, but probably the best family resort in Europe.

We had a really wonderful trip here with our toddler twins. We had some quite complicated dietary requirements for our children and the resort, and Maria from guest services in particular, went out of their way to accommodate them. That alone made the whole experience much more enjoyable than it might otherwise have been. Whilst on the subject, I should say that throughout our stay Maria was exceptionally friendly and helpful. She, along with the superb Spa manager, Ioulia, are a credit to the resort.

The resort itself is very nice. To manage expectations - it is not 'ultra-luxury' in the vein of a four seasons or similar but it is a very nice environment overall. The toddler pool is large and just the right depth and the beach is lovely. The sea is quite shallow which makes it perfect for younger children. They have a lot of equipment (buckets and spades etc), although most of it was broken and they could do with re-stocking their supplies with some new stuff! The marina is fantastic - it gives the impression of being out in a nice local town but without leaving the resort. Lots of excellent restaurants and a really nice atmosphere. This really added to our holiday as it meant we could dine out in a different restaurant every night. Incidentally, we had much better meals in the more 'rustic' restaurants than we did in the supposed fine dining ones. Water, for example, at the Asterias suites was pretty disappointing, whereas Psaroyyanos was excellent. There is also a good park, a widely stocked cycle centre and the evening entertainment was definitely above average for this kind of resort.

By and large the staff were all very friendly. I've already mentioned the spa manager and the treatments we had at the spa were exceptional (and we use a lot of spas in the UK and abroad). In finding the balance between adult luxury and child-friendliness, Porto Sani has done a really good job.

There were a few small points worthy of mentioning. The beach service was poor; the staff there were much less attentive than the rest of the hotel. The breakfast service - and quality to be honest - was variable. The staff were friendly enough but it always felt a bit disorganised and haphazard. On the one day of bad weather we had we used the indoor pool (which they sensibly opened up for the whole day for kids, rather than just the designated splash hours). It was, however, freezing. A final point was that none of the restaurants had any child crockery or cutlery. It's a small thing but when your balancing a giant dinner plate on a high chair tray, it feels like something a family resort should easily solve by just buying some small plastic plates etc!

That the 'negatives' are so specific and relatively small is indicative of the fact that this place gets an awful lot right. We would definitely return and strongly recommend the resort to others.

From the moment we arrived to the day we sadly had to leave we were looked after superbly. The kindness, enthusiasm and genuine desire by all of the team to ensure we had the perfect holiday was amazing. Sakis, Nicos, Maria, Lina, Philipous, Giannis, the list could literally go on were all incredible in making sure my whole family had a truly relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable holiday. We have now been to the Sani Resort for the last three years and it simply gets better and better. From the welcome when you arrive, the kids club, endless activities, fantastic bars, superb restaurants, stunning white sand beaches it is no wonder we are already looking to book our stay for next year and can't wait to go back.

We have just returned from a truly wonderful holiday at this lovely resort! The staff are fabulous and attentive and the resort is luxurious as well as being child friendly. Even though the hotel was full it never felt busy and there were always plenty of sun beds available.

The best things for me about porto sani were the extra thick and wonderfully comfortable sun loungers, the marina with it's great selection of delicious restaurants which is just steps away and the beautifully relaxing and incredible spa.

The few negative points were that the crèche and kids club are not actually in the porto sani but are located at the beach hotel. My 8 month old was booked into the crèche everyday but we were unimpressed and only ended up sending her once!

The suites are nice but not overly generous size wise to sleep two children comfortably in the lounge.

The prices for food in the hotel was high and in order to get better value the dine around (half board) option would be preferable.

The positives definitely outweigh the few negative points though and we will be returning to this wonderful resort for sure!

We returned to Port Sani having been previously in 2012 and it lived up to our memories. Wonderful staff, fabulous food - such a brilliant idea being able to use the dine around facility. Great choice of restuarants and makes you feel like you are eating out every night. Never a problem getting a sun bed either by the pool or on the beach. Talking of which the beach is very child friendly, lovely warm, shallow sea and great sand for playing.
Special mention to Denis at Bousoulas bar on the beach - a pleasure to meet him - fantastic service, delicious lunchtime food and as before great fun at the white party. General Manager at Porto Sani is a sheer delight one of the happiest people on the planet and very attentive to guests. Great place for a family holiday.

A wonderful resort with lots of choice - great quality! The staff truly want your holiday to be perfect. We arrived late because of BA delays but the reception desk was still very welcoming and wanted to make sure we quickly got some rest, telling us we did not need to worry about forms / check in. Bags quickly taken to the room. We were allocated the wrong room that night due to an honest error but the resort made every effort to move our belongings (piece by piece as we unpacked everything) to our new room 24 hours later. Plenty for the kids to do and a great environment for the kids to have some independence and explore the resort by the mountain bikes we hired for our stay. Loads of restaurants to choose and all with excellent food and service.
