I was nervous about booking Porto Sani Village after an awful holiday at Daios Cove last year. Our 6am flight from Manchester took 3 hours 10 minutes. We were welcomed at the airport by Sani staff and given cold bottles of water, our driver took us to an air conditioned Mercedes - from time of landing to arrival at the hotel took 1.5 hours - very good.
On arrival you are welcomed and taken to Sea Breeze bar for a complimentary drink which could be anything you wanted - I had chilled glass of champagne. If you arrive early your room may not be ready so make sure your children (and you) have swimsuits in the hand luggage you take to the bar so they can cool down in the pools. Sakis the Manager (he is always around speaking to guests) welcomes you and one of his team - we had the lovely Lina run us through all the resort information. You become very aware of the excellent service you are going to receive during your stay and how important it is to all the staff that everything is to your liking. At this point try to book most of your dinner reservations for your stay - you can make changes later but most popular ones get fully booked quickly. A very special mention to Christina who will help with any special requirements. We had a Marina view room on first floor which was very nice and Christina had arranged for a standard single bed for our 11 year old son which was very much appreciated. There was a complimentary bottle of wine and water plus fruits in the lounge area when we got to our room. Comfortable beds - big fluffy soft pillows, TV in lounge with DVD player and bedroom and Bose sound dock. Air con was very good and quiet at night. We didn't feel the extra price for marina view was worth it as you have the restaurants and cafes between rooms & marina so can be noisy early morning with delivery trucks. Good size balcony and curtains include blackout curtains. You get complimentary bottles of water every evening at turndown service. The room has tea, coffee and kettle and a larger than average mini fridge. A short walk into the Marina there is a well stocked supermarket where you can get wide range of drinks, food and snacks. The 2 bedroom suites are all on the ground floor.
Porto Sani Village is in great central location in Sani Resort - it is an oasis of calm and pools are exclusive use for Porto Sani guests only. To get to the Beach Club there is a shuttle bus service which runs every 20 minutes. We were glad we were not staying there as couldn't be bothered taking a bus. The beach hotel is a 5 minute walk or you can take golf buggies.
Porto Sani has its own reserved area on the beach with very nice loungers which you can make a reservation for - great staff on the beach with excellent service. There is a beach buddie service where staff look after young children in the shade with toys etc - great idea. Beautiful sandy beach - crystal clear warm water.
Pools as I said are for exclusive use - 2 shallow childrens pools, 2 deeper pools and a separate adults only pool. You cannot reserve sunloungers before 10am and you wont need to as there are plenty of them and even in August there were always ones free. And these are sunbeds - 6 inch deep mattress soft as marshmallows! Service around the pools for drinks is first class.
For lunch there is a good menu at Sea Breeze bar (prawn Caesar, club sandwich very nice) and a more formal and expensive menu at Lagoon restaurant in the middle of the pools. The Lagoon restaurant needs to include the main meals off the Sea Breeze bar on the menu as not comfortable trying to eat off low coffee tables in Sea Breeze bar - that is just a suggestion.
Excellent breakfast is served in the Artemis restaurant and there is a very large buffet selection to choose from plus you can have anything off the a la carte too. There is an area set aside where young children can play whilst parents eat. We were told that it could be very busy before 10am with families eating breakfast to get their children to kids club for 10am start. Again for August we had breakfast around 9am and it never got busy - never saw all tables used or anyone waiting for a table.
We were on half board dine around option but we did not think it was worth having so next time we will go bed & breakfast as like to have room service some nights. In some of the restaurants your food is covered by half board - others you get a 25 euro per adult and 12.50 euro per child credit against the bill. Sea You Up restaurant is not in dine around. So quick summary of restaurants we ate in:
Artermis - very good food with new menu each day - Sunday is seafood festival which was very expensive and we only did once and would not do again. Wednesdays is greek night but we did not go.
Ammos - the best restaurant by far in a stunning location by the beach - highly recommended.
Macaroni - covered on dine around - 4 courses - food average and service very slow.
Tomata - good food and novelty make your own salad starter.
We had takeaway sushi from Sea You Up restaurant as could not get booked for a table - met female chef who used to work as chef at Nobu in London - say no more - no wonder it's so popular.
Dine around does not include room service.
Marina is busy in the evenings with lots of guests from Sani Beach Hotel & Club - lots of restaurants, shops, cafes - nice evening walk.
Spa is excellent - best massages ever by Elenis had full body and then Indian head massages.
Wednesday night White Party at Bousoulas Beach is a must - great fun.
Bousoulas beach is lovely and on windy days you can play in the waves. You can get a golf buggy there and back - this beach is also used by locals who can pay to use loungers.
My son was in the Teen Club - good selection of activities which they can pick what they want to do - thank you to Callum. They meet over at Sports Centre near Melissa Mini Club at 10am - 5 minute walk.
He also went to Soccer Academy 6 to 8pm every evening except Sunday run by the excellent Jamal. My son loved this but the time was very late especially to go to dinner after.
There is an open air cinema, open air theatre, bike hire which is very popular with kids. Tennis was very busy.
We went over to Sani Beach Hotel one day when my son was doing try scuba in the pool - it was mobbed - too busy. There is another pool on the other section of the hotel but not a lot of loungers there.
We to Sani Beach Club again busy - loungers on beach being used by locals. Beach area narrow and rocky on sea edge with gap in middle to access the sea.
Asteria Suites look stunning especially beachfront ones - very exclusive.
On our last day we chartered the Sani 35 foot sailing boat with skipper - it was the icing on the cake - fabulous day.
If you fancy a short taxi ride go the Ta Kymata (The Waves) fish restaurant in Nea Fokea - waterfront open air tables - great food - try small fried fish, fried zucchini, octopus, greek salad - great prices.
Porto Sani Village is superb with outstanding service and all the staff are fantastic and friendly - it is perfect for families - we loved it so much we have already booked to go back next August with friends. See you there....
