I had like, everyone, scoured trip advisor well before I booked my holiday. My partner and I both work in a hotel, so when we read reviews there are some things that we read that we can understand why things are done the way they are. We see reviews and think it's probably not that bad people are just exaggerating, we understand how it works behind the scenes.
So looking at the reviews of the Atlantica kalliston we were very pleased. It all looked perfect and relaxing and there were hardly any bad reviews if any.
We booked with Thomson for all inclusive for 7 nights, we chose to go for the sea view room choice because yes the road was noisy but hey it's a sea view not a bad life!
We also booked with them to have a stay at gatwick airport which included airport parking for the whole time we were away, much cheaper than booking separately.
When we arrived in Greece there were 3 Thomson ladies, very easy to spot, who where there to help us get to the hotel. They were welcoming and helpful, asking us about where we were staying and then told us what number our bus to the hotel would be.
On the bus we were given a registration form, which we filled out before they started moving, making our lives much easier when checking in.
When we arrived at the hotel, the bus driver found our luggage and brought it in for us, where we we're meet with a welcome drink and hot towel to freshen up.
We went to our room and dropped off any excess luggage, just in time for lunch.
After popping down to the Greek tavern for some very good lunch, lots of choice, we arrived back at our room with our suitcases waiting for us.
After unpacking we went for a wonder around the beautiful hotel and beach area.
At the hotel during check in, we were told that there would be a welcome talk the next day. At the welcome talk we were offered a drink (orange juice or an ouzo cocktail like sambuca) and a little sample of one of the two of diamonds, a very talented young man. There they explained about excursions and places nearby to visit.
We stopped off the in the bar before dinner and every night we were greeted by the happy face of 'Elina' she was a pleasure to talk to and very hospitable. As we were all inclusive, we didn't pay for the many piña coladas I had or the mojitos my partner had. However there was never any pressure to tip, but because of the prompt and brilliant service we received, we were more than happy to tip on many occasions.
We tipped in the main restaurant, which may have been a bit odd for some people as it was all buffet service, but 'Alexis' was so on the ball with drinks and always keeping your wine and water glasses topped up, that we happily left tips in the box on the way out of the restaurant.
Now I read a review about someone complaining about the lack of drinks on the menu for the all inclusive choice, i found there to be A LOT of choice and I will be uploading pictures of the menu. Every item's price that has two ** next to it are inclusive which is a lot with a wide variety. It includes lots of cocktails, spirits, brandy, rum, liqueurs, soft drinks, Pepsi, lemonade, juice, water, bottles of wine! Etc.
I didn't use the spa area but it was always tidy and clean.
Now the pools, yes they are colder than you'd probably prefer, but when the temperatures are 28°C or higher and you're just sitting in the sun soaking up all the heat it'll feel even colder. My advice, there are showers by the pools stand under those until you feel a little chilly then the pool feels quite nice. Or alternatively jump in the pool for a couple of seconds then go straight to the sea and the sea becomes lovely and warm, a bit like having a bath. The sea was clean and clear, I could easily see all the little fishes swimming around us.
We ate in the Italian one night and that was delicious, the environment was romantic and relaxing. The food was incredible and you could see the pizzas being prepared and then cooked in the pizza oven.
All in all this was one of the best holidays I have ever been on. I think Thomson helped a lot with making the holiday as good as it was. The staff and food also helped a lot. I took €380 with me and came back with €300. I had no need for money aside from tips and the occasional non inclusive drink.
I wish i didn't have to leave but unfortunately real life beckoned and we finished up our best holiday until the next time I can get back to the kalliston.
