We booked Risdene fairly last minute needing a real 'away from it all' holiday. Couldn't have asked for better. This is such a peaceful location and such a little gem. Parked the car and took the river taxi along to Risdene with our luggage/shopping to discover a beautiful and very well equipped cottage. The owners really have thought of everything to make you feel at home. Comfy beds, beautiful shower room and very well equipped kitchen. Bikes/kayaks/canoe & rowing boat, lots to do if you want an active holiday. Alternatively sit by the river, feed the ducks and wave to the occasional boat passing by. We could happily have stayed another week (or 3). If you need to really get away from it all this is the place!
Had a lovely week in Risdene; the cottage is very cosy and packed with board games, books and DVDs to keep you busy indoors. There are also games, boats and bikes for fun outdoors. We enjoyed trying out the canoe, but found the rowing boat a bit more of a challenge to control. The reed beds behind the cottage are a great place for walks and spotting wildlife; we saw barn owls and marsh harriers most days. Local store Lathams provides plenty of provisions, and Bridges is great for tea and cake. We also hired a boat from Maycraft for a few days and visited Hickling and Horning (though couldn't find anywhere in the centre of Horning to moor the boat). Horsey Gap is definitely worth a visit to see the seals basking on the beach. Owners were very helpful and ensured we had a lovely time. May well return!
