“Sunday Lunch”
Reviewed 16 September 2012 via mobile

What a friendly pub/restaurant, and the Sunday lunch was amazing, roast beef (husbands choice) Roast pork for me, both cooked to perfection, 6 vegetables, all cooked perfectly, Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes delicious, huge serving and we couldn't quite manage to clear our plates, certainly no room for pudding but we noticed some people did indulge. The staff were very friendly and helpful, well done !

Quite possibly the best hospitality we have ever received in a pub. The landlady, Annette, was quite possibly the nicest landlady we have ever encountered. She looked after our two boys as if they were her own. You will not go wrong spending your money here, the beer is good and the food is even better. I hope they don't read this but the portion sizes are huge and worth every penny!! Well worth the 10min walk from the boat yard. Go and prove me wrong!!!!!!

We chose this B&B /Inn as we needed a cheap place to stay, to attend a wedding in Ludham 2 miles away. It was £30 pppn, which is a bit cheaper than others in this area.

They have 2 doubles, 1 twin and 1 single room; our party occupied them all. The rooms were quite nicely decorated but there was not much room to put our toiletries etc. but we coped. Our en-suite shower was not working, so we had to share the communal bathroom with our family, who were in the twin and single rooms. This was OK but not ideal. The other double room had an en-suite with a working shower, but the television was not working. This was reported by our friends the problem was not rectified while we were there. The beds were quite comfortable but rooms are a little noisy, as on the roadside.

The lady who runs the B&B and pub is friendly and cooks the food with others. We had dinner in the pub restaurant with 10 people on Friday night. We all had huge portions but felt some of the food wasn't the best quality, but OK. Our breakfast was very good. There was cereal and a choice of English breakfast, with toast and tea/coffee. This was very tasty, good quality bacon and sausages, and large portions again!

The Pub itself is nice and relaxed, very quirky with lots of different knick-knacks on display!

All in all the Falgate Inn is a cheaper basic B&B and pub, with a friendly Landlady and atmosphere, and set in the beautiful Norfolk Broads.

We had a really good mid-week evening meal here, it's basic pub grub but decent quality and huge portions, and the staff were very friendly. We dropped in the next day at 1.35pm for lunch and again the food was pretty good, but what a difference in service - the staff (same landlady but different waitress) were unfriendly to the point of sullenness - we really felt they didn't want our business. The decor is bizarre - we nearly didn't go in on the first occasion, and it's worse inside than out, but may be worth a try for an evening meal.

4 adults and a dog made very welcome at the Falgate, nice food, big portions but had a very disappointed husband and dad due to lack of real ale. Husband ended up drinking Guiness and dad endured IPA! not so good for those that like the local brew! Probably could have been there on a different day to find the local brew on, so to be fair would probably try it again if in the area.

Room Tip: If you plan on eating it is very advisable to book in advance!

We stayed at the nearby Caravan and Camping certified site (also very friendly, and very near the water). They advised us to check the Falgate because there is another pub which is mainly aimed at the tourist trade. So glad they did! Stumbled in wet and cold, found a smallish bar area with large woodburner, friendly staff and locals. Dogs can stay in the bar area, but there is a separate large dining area. However, if you want to keep your dog with you, you can eat in the bar. The portions were huge - and also very reasonably priced. I had the criss/cross fish (pictured) - you do have a choice of a single fillet, but not having been before, I wondered if the fillets were small - no, they aren't! My partner had a chicken dish - it came with every vegetable known to the world! The food isn't exotic, but it is well cooked and well presented (see photo) Wonderful place, thanks so much for a great experience! Oh, final tip - you might need to book a table an hour or two before - it's an understandably popular place!
