Owner Michael personally greeted us on the night. I was told Monday April 28 2014 was opening day, our table of 14 was booked for its first Saturday, a long weekend and a Bank Holiday. Our English cousins complained about the wait for the food but being from Australia and a little laid back I thought the wait was OK but not excessive. The owner did thank us for our patience on departure so he must have thought it was an issue.
Pro’s; the interior decorating is tastefully done. Lots of wood, very original and appropriate to the outdoor setting. The Boat House has potential to be an excellent wedding venue; the jetty overlooking the lake is a stunning setting for bridal pictures.
Food was well received. I ordered the Ale Battered Fish which was haddock. The photo doesn’t do the size of the fish much justice. Had one of the best fish and chips.
Cons; Two people complained the chairs were uncomfortable. Our 4'10" cousin couldn’t touch her feet on the ground. We dubbed them Viking chairs. The tables put together for a larger group are an issue as the table legs are very thick and if seated where the tables join one can’t tuck themselves in but will eat back from the table (see photo).
No tartar sauce with the fish.
Waiters were young and need to be a bit more switched on and attentive to the table especially with drink service.
To summarize, outstanding setting and interior decorating, good food, average service but in its infancy. This place has huge potential. The bar was buzzing. Enjoyed the night with relatives in a magnificent setting.
