Description: The Boathouse is Norfolk's most anticipated new venue for 2014. Formerly the Eels Foot pub, the venue has been lovingly restored and extended and now serves traditional pub grub(with the occasional twist) during the day with country and gastro dining in the evenings (carvery option only on Sundays). Food is served from 12 noon - 3pm and 6pm - 9pm daily (Monday - Saturday) and 12 noon - 6pm on Sundays. We use the finest fresh seasonal local ingredients with all meals being prepared to order. Beautifully presented interior with outdoor seating, children's play area and stunning views of the Broad. We can assure you of a very warm welcome at the Boathouse.

“Outstanding Venue in it's Infancy.”
Reviewed 31 May 2014

Owner Michael personally greeted us on the night. I was told Monday April 28 2014 was opening day, our table of 14 was booked for its first Saturday, a long weekend and a Bank Holiday. Our English cousins complained about the wait for the food but being from Australia and a little laid back I thought the wait was OK but not excessive. The owner did thank us for our patience on departure so he must have thought it was an issue.

Pro’s; the interior decorating is tastefully done. Lots of wood, very original and appropriate to the outdoor setting. The Boat House has potential to be an excellent wedding venue; the jetty overlooking the lake is a stunning setting for bridal pictures.
Food was well received. I ordered the Ale Battered Fish which was haddock. The photo doesn’t do the size of the fish much justice. Had one of the best fish and chips.

Cons; Two people complained the chairs were uncomfortable. Our 4'10" cousin couldn’t touch her feet on the ground. We dubbed them Viking chairs. The tables put together for a larger group are an issue as the table legs are very thick and if seated where the tables join one can’t tuck themselves in but will eat back from the table (see photo).
No tartar sauce with the fish.
Waiters were young and need to be a bit more switched on and attentive to the table especially with drink service.

To summarize, outstanding setting and interior decorating, good food, average service but in its infancy. This place has huge potential. The bar was buzzing. Enjoyed the night with relatives in a magnificent setting.

Thank you for your kind comments about the Boathouse. Yes, we know service has been a little slow at times but with staff recruitment and training we believe we have addressed this now. Delighted that you loved the food - chef does take great pride in serving great quality and well presented food. Yes, you are right, we are blessed with the most wonderful location overlooking the magical Ormesby Broad. Your comments regarding the chairs are interesting and I have forwarded these to the owners to see if there might be a better seating solution for larger parties. We look forward to seeing you again at the Boathouse.

“Amazing setting, great atmosphere, perfect food, faultless service”
Reviewed 29 May 2014

Visited two weekends ago. This place really is rather special. Set isolated on the edge of the broad, with no other businesses to spoil the view, this is the best venue we've eaten at in years.

The owners have transformed what was a run down old pub into a beautiful pub, restaurant and wedding venue. Food excelled expectations and the service from the friendly staff was spot on. Bar area has a really rustic feel to it with what looks like genuine items of restored furniture, but still maintains a modern feel. Plenty of parking and spaces to sit outside when the sun is out. Will be heading back here soon.

We are very sorry that your first impressions of the Boathouse are not good. We have spoken to the member of staff in question and she apologies. She was having a bad day but now understands that in this industry you leave your problems at home! We have had a few staffing teething problems but with recruitment and staff training great improvements have been made. Please be assured that none of our food is frozen - it is all freshly prepared to order using seasonal local products wherever possible. We hope you will give us a second chance we certainly feel we have ironed out nearly all the issued now.

“Great venue but poor service and food”
Reviewed 29 May 2014

Love the new venue but the food was poor and the lady in charge was very poor. The food was very processed and frozen food instead of fresh and genuine.

The lady in charge when we made enquiries about the wedding venue was not enthusiastic or even happy to be there.

My partner and I had both been watching this place develop and we're greatly disappointed that the service and food did not match the expectation set by the heavily invested design and location.

“Fantastic experience at the boat house!”
Reviewed 28 May 2014 via mobile

I recently visited the boat house and was overwhelmed by it's beautiful location with some stunning views, perfect in the sunshine. The food was brilliant and the staff attentive and friendly. I would definitely recommend a visit, whether it's to sample the fantastic food or just to enjoy a pint in the sunshine. The quality of ale there is also another good reason for a visit!
