We stayed in the Hermes Hotel in mid August 2012, and had a truly fantastic time! When we arrived we were picked up at the ferry port by Niko in his van and taken directly to the hotel, and then shown around the pool area by Kyle. The hotel has a unbelievable view of the beach below and coastline, we couldnt believe how great the pool area was when we arrived. Ios itself is one of the best party places I have ever been to, guaranteed a great time. although it is great for partying, Ios is truly a proper Greek island with white washed buildings and blue window shutter etc. It has the best of both worlds. The hotel owner Niko is brilliant, he meets you on nights out and gets you into the clubs for free and is a good laugh. there is a fantastic beach about 20 minutes walk away (however it is down a steep slope) with watersports etc. The rooms in the hotel are lovely, great air con and fully furnished bathroom. All in all if you are staying in Ios, dont look any further than the Hermes, you wont be disappointed!!

This is just a fantastic hotel on Ios. On the outskirts of the town center (Chora) and on the way to the most fantastic beach (Mylopotas). The hotel is family owned and they are just soo incredibly friendly and helpful. There is a bar by the pool and it also is great fun, specially its owner, always ready with a joke! The view of the caldera from the hotel is just breathtaking!!

Is the 2nd time i have been in Hermes hotel @ Ios (first time was in 2003) and the reason i have choosed it the second time was for the great view and the very good sense it left me. The hotel is half distance to Mylopotas beach and the main village (Chora). From the hotel you have the most astonishing view of the island as it is build on an edge and you can have view of the agean blue. The Hotel is a family run business and the people they r working there they look to love what they r doing and they are always friendly and available to help and guide you. The pool area is very nice although some of sunbeds are broken. I was dissapointed from the rooms as i beleive that they should make renovation to the toilet, room furniture and balcony furniture. Although room was basically clean it offers no facilities. However for such a price i would be amazed if i had something more than basics. I would highly recommend Hermes hotel for young people who have limited expectations regarding room

...unless you are an 18-year old party animal who will accept any living conditions. I'll start from the beginning.

It was nice to be picked up at the ferry by Kyle and Nick, although there was no air conditioning in the van and everyone was packed together and very sweaty. When we arrived at the hotel, we thought it looked really pretty and the view was spectacular, even better than the photos. We had booked the hotel because of its location and view, which are both good. But the good stuff ends here.

As soon as we walked in the door, we were disappointed. The room looked tired and worn, and we were given two separate beds even though we are a couple. The towel hanger in the bathroom was broken, and the sink was cracked and missing the glass that would normally hold a toothbrush, just a metal ring sticking up. The air coming out of the A/C smelt moldy. The floor was very dirty, our feet turned black from walking on it, and there were cobwebs under the bed. It gets worse. I counted 41 flying ants in the shower, which I flushed down, but new ones kept coming in. Every night I got new mosquito bites, and after three nights at this hotel I had 30. The hotel does not serve any breakfast, but we bought some snacks and ate them on our balcony, which was actually quite nice (but one of the two chairs was broken, of course). The water pressure in the shower was poor, and many times there was no hot water at all.

The pool and pool area would have been very nice, with a bar and plenty of seating, if it wasn't for the foul sewage smell. Where it comes from, I don't know, but we noticed it sometimes coming up through the drain in our bathroom too. You can also play pool (as in billiards) by the pool, but you have to pay. There were mixed messages in our room and by the pool as to when it opens and closes. Very confusing, and the penalty for being there at the wrong hour is that they call the cops on you... We read. Also mixed messages were given about payment and check-out times. On the booking confirmation it said we could pay with a credit card and check out at 12. At the reception we were asked to pay cash and check out before 11.30. Two people nagged us about checking out at 11.30 when it was only 11. First Kyle, in his sweetest manner, so we forgive him. Then the cleaning lady (I guess they have one after all). We assured both we were leaving in a few minutes.

Needless to say, I would never go back to this hotel. I would also never go back to Ios. It is definitely not for couples. Almost everyone there is single and between the age of 18 and 23. There is not much going on during the day, and the partying starts at 3 am. Even then, people are just wearing shorts and tanks and looking very tired, at least that was our experience. There are so many other wonderful Greek islands, and we thoroughly enjoyed Naxos, Santorini and Mykonos.

With a gorgeous pool you don't want to leave, great pool bar with cheap drinks and good food, Hermes made our Ios experience all the better!
The family who run the place (esp Nick the Greek) go out of their way to help you with ferry pick ups and drop offs, making reservations at restaurants for you and fantastic recommendations as locals you feel at home at Hermes!
Great value for money, and the pool overlooking the beach is simply spectacular and we were all really sad to leave! Will definitely stay here again and will recommend it to all who go to Ios!!
