We've been traveling to the Hotel Kenney for 35 years. Need I say it is one of our favorite places to "get away"?
That being said, Hotel Kenney still has some work to be done since the new owner took over in 2009. Some improvements have been made; new lighting, satellite TV, new outdoor chairs, an updated lounge area and bar. Some changes still need to be made, which include replacing the screen doors on the motel units and general painting. The boats need to replaced with lighter aluminum boats and new motors. Some changes baffle us, such as filling in the pool and closing the store. But these are small inconsequential items compared to the overall ambiance of Hotel Kenneys which keeps us returning year after year.

The scenery is breathtaking. The wildlife abundant. And, it is still fascinating, no matter how many times you watch the lock doors open and the boats stream out. The fishing is world-class.
The staff is dedicated and returning year after year makes us feel as if we are reuniting with long lost relatives. We miss Andy and his care of the grounds. Carol will soon be retiring after many years of dedicated service, keeping our room spotless. Sarah is a gem in the dining room and at the front desk. Karen and Brenda at the front desk take the time to answer any question and help out in any way they can.
The rooms are comfortable and meet all our needs. The "Inn" rooms have 2 double beds, a couch, cocktail table, desk, satellite tv, suitcase stand (for 2 suitcases), large shelf to keep your snacks and a mini refrigerator. Outside the sliding door are loungechairs to relax and watch the boats and lock activity.
The daily rate includes your room and 3 meals. We find the quality of food improved with the new owner. The quantity still overwhelms us. Lunch and dinner include soup, salad, entree and dessert. The food is all freshly made. (Not sure about the comments about bottled dressing). This is one of the few places that serve "real" maple syrup. We are very happy with the meals we received.

Kenney's will rent you a boat with a motor and will wrap and freeze your fish for you. Fishing guides are also available.

Room Tip: Bayside rooms are large and have a screened in porch, but limited view of the locks. "Inn"...

I was in your hotel for lunch today and I was very disappointed in the meal.
I ordered Macaroni & Cheese. I would have liked to have a side order of green salad but you only offered side dishes that were all starch. EG 3 bean salad, or potato salad or macaroni salad.
The Macaroni & Cheese was overcooked and very dry.
I ended up getting a chef's salad which was OK.
The peach cobbler I ordered was very good.

This marks the third summer we have ended our summer boat trip at the Kenney Hotel. The hotel has a charming history - I am sure that "Dirty Dancing" could have been filmed there! The hotel caters to those arriving by automobile as well as boaters with everything from cabin cruisers to smaller open boats like ours. We leave our boat trailer and SUV at the Hotel Kenney, drive home in another car and then boat from near Ottawa. We then pull the boat out at the convenient hotel boat ramp to drive home.) The rooms are clean, and the ones in which we have recently stayed have been modernized, are bright and large with seating areas for cards or conversation right in the room. The meals offer an interesting choice, are well-prepared, and for the most part are served by charming, vivacious university students from the surrounding villages. The common areas feature comfortable conversation areas, a nice little bar, and in another building an ice-cream bar with generous scoops. The new owner, an American businessman, came to the hotel as a teenager - and liked the place so much he bought it when the Kenney family wanted to sell. He has retained the character with a number of modern touches - such as more TV channels than one could ever watch! The local management and staff really seem to want to offer good service...and it shows. An added bonus is the fact that the Jones Falls Locks of the Rideau Canal are within a short walk. In addition to seeing a World Heritage Site in operation, there are interesting exhibits with a blacksmith (and his helper) and guides to explain the colorful history of the area all while dressed in period costumes. In conclusion the hotel is well worth a visit for lunch, supper, or overnight - even if you have a cabin cruiser with all of the amenities!

Room Tip: The motel-like facility furthest from the main building seem to be the best.

The location is perfect and the food was good but they bungled our reservation for two rooms together. We were promised (on the phone over 2 months in advance) 2 rooms in the Bayside part of the lodge with a shared screened in porch but only one couple got a very nice room there and the other couple got a motel-like room on the opposite side of the property (still with a nice view but very inconvenient). They apologized by offering us each a complimentary glass of wine but both rooms cost the same and no reduction in price was forthcoming. This is the most expensive accommodation we stayed at on our trip up the Rideau Waterway but certainly not the nicest experience and I would have liked some incentive to return offered. New management seem to be still finding their feet. They assured me this almost never happens to others but I would suggest getting a detailed confirmation in writing. The office assistant was very nice and did get back to me but said the reservation person had no memory of it!

Room Tip: Ask for rooms in the Bayside and then follow up for email confirmation that you will indeed get what...

I stayed for five days once for a retreat to get some work done and I have now been back 4 times in one year, staying for five days each time. The people are wonderful and take the time to get to know you. The little touches like knowing your name and responding to specific food needs make Hotel Kenney a friendly and accommodating place to get away from the hustle and bustle of normal every day life in order to read a book, take walks along scenic trails, take pictures of wildlife, and focus on yourself. It is a great location for a group of writers, artists or any group wanting the time and service to do what you need to do. Absolutely a wonderful time and I'm already planning another visit in the Fall.

We celebrated 2 birthdays this spring in the Hotel Kenney dining room and will be back for more! The food was excellent and unique. The desserts are not to be missed - home baked cheese cakes and carrot cake among others. We loved our waitress - really personable and focussed on making our evening a success. Well done! Looking forward to our next meal at Hotel Kenney.

Ancient and a little worn this place is a ge
Service and food were spectacular when you think this is a small rather remote summer facility.
You have to leave the main road to find it.
Supper was venison with well prepared fresh veggies and FABULOUS carrot cake my server baked.
Breakfast was fantastic Welsh rarebit .
Don't find that on every menu.
After breakfast I walked across the bay an old stagecoach bridge to the series of hand operated locks installed in the 1800s and toured the free museum and blacksmith shop.
Hotel Kenney is the real deal .
No Disneyland this.
