We went specifically for the seafood risotto and were not disappointed. To make a change from the inevitable but tasty antipasti we shared a grilled fish main course and it too was excellent. Nice buzz and noise to the place. Well worth a return visit.

This restaurant was one of the biggest disappointment of our two and half weeks in Puglia where we have eaten nothing but high quality fish

I am surprised it is No 1 on trip advisor and this may be a reflection of the standard of other restaurants in Savelletri although the other restaurant close by Pescheria 2 Mare where had lunch another day was absolutely superb specializing in raw fish – in this case you cannot disguise poor quality

Having visited the pescheria across the road from the restaurant prior to eating and seen the most amazing choice of fresh seafood one had high expectations

It is no doubt very touristy and this may be the problem – we do not think local Italians would accept this quality and most of the clients were foreign mainly English speaking.I suspect the locals and Italians in general would head for pescheria to take home

We had a tuna tartare which was OK but not highly rated – very bland

The next dish was a disaster- 15 euro for four mushy unpalatable prawns which were understandably not fresh or even fresh frozen – totally unacceptable in Puglia let alone anywhere
We complained and were given an explanation that all raw fish was blasted frozen briefly to minimize infection– please we are not stupid – this relates to the freshest of seafood .Fresh is all about your access or contract to local fisherman and the ability to get the product from the boat to table in shortest possible time – if there are significant delays it is usually commercial fishing on a larger scale or imported and it needs to be frozen – it is cheaper this way than through local fishermen but does not justify exorbitant prices

We have experienced in our time in Puglia sea direct to plate fresh fish and not at the price of what is supposedly frozen in the way above and of poor quality

We were offered Gallipoli prawns instead as a replacement and we got two below medium sized prawns for Euro 14.70 – outrageous. This was not only ridiculously priced for yes what was quality this time but a means to cover the cost of the original dish – nothing generous here –without giving anything away

What followed was worse – risotto of seafood – predominantly risotto with very little seafood – the isolated mini prawn, empty mussel shells and others with microscopic flesh and again mushy langoustine. It did not even taste of fish.It is easy to use poor quality products disguised in a risotto which was heavy in every way.
Avoid this place – the seafood is a disgrace -it is a rip off and geared for unsuspecting tourists who we imagine restaurant thinks they are not educated enough to know what real quality is and grateful to have seafood whatever– it is nothing to do with blast frozen or fresh frozen but the quality of the product and what process it goes through

I suggest the owner read my other Puglia restaurant reviews to see what I mean – many five star reviews for seafood restaurants

Recommended by the bartender at our hotel, Masseria Torre Maizza, we absolutely loved this restaurant. Lively with a great staff and fantastic food and wine. They give you a digestivo tasting at the end with 3 of their homemade liquors, such a great touch!
