Aquapetra Resort & Spa

Once you've managed to find Aquapetra (directions were not perfect! - like a lot of places in Italy, part of its charm), you'll immediately unwind and immerse yourself in the tranquility and luxury of this beautiful spa resort. Arriving just on lunchtime we were settled into our comfortable suite then wandered down to the restaurant where lunch was served to us, and another party, on the balmy terrace - olive oil from the trees in the grove we overlooked, local wine, home-made bread, prosciutto, what more could one want. Wandering through the grounds was like wandering through a Tuscan village - just the feeling we were supposed to experience, complete with its own chapel/bell tower. A beautiful pool to relax around, beauty treatments on tap. We'd go back in a shot!

Room Tip: Every room is good, so no tips needed.

We thought we were just stopping at a nice hotel on our way from Rome to Puglia but what we found was one of the greatest spa, restaurant hotels in all of Italy. The price is very reasonable, the rooms are very contemporary, clean and large. The food is all either made in the restaurant or from very small farms nearby. The wines of the region are world renown. This place is one of the best hidden jewels in Europe. I almost feel bad letting others in on the secret.

Room Tip: one of the best hotels in all of Italy.

We stayed for 10 nights, and were blown away by the sheer beauty of the place, and so quiet and peaceful, yet still very hot this time of year. Temps for last wk Sept, first wk Oct were usually high 20's. No rain so far on day 8 too.

The rooms are ancient cottages, each has its own external door to the village. This is not a good place for the unsteady on their feet, but if you can cope with some steps and a walk of 50 metres to all facilities, then you will be fine. Totally inaccessable for wheelchairs though.

The breakfast is a mix of continental stuff - cereal, fruit, pastries, cakes, and cold meats and slamon. The cakes feel too beautiful to cut into, and taste lovely. There is a decent range if food for both lunch or room service, and the evening meals are very well cooked. Sadly they dont expect you to have a long stay as the menu doesnt actually vary at all!

Cleanliness is excellent, as are the grounds maintenance - you can even have fresh towels twice a day in your room in addition to the spa towels. The soft drinks in the mini bar are free. The rooms are very warm unless you open the windows - the air con hasnt worked well, but keeps the room bearable, hence only 4 stars for the room.

There are quite a few mosquitoes, so bring repellantif you need it, but there arent the clouds of them that you get in some places in italy, just a couple to swat each night in the room if youb, eave the windows open. They are very quiet though, unlike the usual high pitched whine you expect.

The outdoor pool is unheated, and we havent braved more than a paddle, but the soa has been lovely, and except for the weekend, we have had it to ourselves, and maybe a coupke of others at times. There is a big pool with jacuzzi both seated and standing, and one of those high shoulder massage jets. There are two walk through foot jacuzzis, one hot, one cold. I didnt know what they were for, so was lying in one, much to the italians amusement! There is also a hammam and a sauna, plus some treatment rooms with staggeringly expensive massages - about 4 times the UK costs.

Finally, if you are stayjng for any kength of time, hire a car. Its aboht the same price for 10 days for a car as for just the taxis to and from the airport. The driving is a bit nuts, but you soon get used to it, and I have seen worse round the bull ring in Birmingham. Its about an hour to Naples, and much less to Caserta and Benevento, both of which were lovely. However be careful driving if you want to go to Hurculaneum, as this was a nightmare!

All in all a great break, just would have liked slightly colder rooms and slightly more food chojce if I were being really picky, but the beauty and calm more than make up for these. It would make the most fantastic wedding venue too.

No good list of wines-restaurant prices too high-indoor swimming pool water too cold-no internet available in the room- TV channels always loosing signal every 3 second -plus there are only 9 channels at the most- NORADIO-no DVD - No Gym available- the bar was always closed- no info in the room about restaurant /bar hours. Very poor breakfast. The spa is too small during the low season imagine when it's crowded. No comment card available in the room.

After talking to the manager nothing has been done about my cmplaints.

What a fabulous place! We stayed here for 5 nights and everything was perfect. Not only is the hotel beautifully presented in local stone, but the food is wonderful, and the service is fantastic. The restaurant manager Ciro was very knowledgeable in local wines, and the chef was outstanding....everything is so fresh, and expertly served by Carmine!! Rooms are very clean and beautifully decorated. The spa staff were also excellent---best manicure and pedicure I've ever had, and my husbands massage was terriffic. A beautiful place to rest and relax in beautiful surroundings. Many thanks to the Resident Manager Titti, and all the staff for taking such good care of us!! We will be back!

I was impressed by the sight of the resort from the web , but for once reality exceeded expectations.
The resort is a fantastic hamlet in the heart of a yet to be known region, where peace and quiet are the motto.
The Spa was, to me, the Spa experience: after my massages and treatments I slept like a baby.
I stayed only two days, but I did have the chance to appreciate their restaurant , the chef is young but very skillful and the meals were a heaven.
My Husband and I will go back... soon, I hope
