Fish Eagle Bay Lodge
Ranked #1 of 4 Nkhotakota B&B and Inns
Reviewed 9 August 2014 via mobile

After working 14 hours day in Nkhotakota boma for a week, we went here for relaxations a couple of days. The owner is a nice guy from Congo and we were very friendly welcomed by both him and his staff. The cabins are very romantic and you even have a view over the beach and lake from your bed.
If hungry, do try the kampango - it is just marvellous!
You can swim in the lake, play at the beach or just enjoy a soft drink in one of the summer huts close to the beach.

I have stayed here 3 times in the family (12 and 5 year old) room and value for money is exceptional.. it can a little quiet as it is never full but that all depends on what you want.... we went for an lovely walk on the huge beach and it was like being a rock star as there was no one near us... loved it

I was tempted to give Fish Eagle 3 stars (see cons below), but the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff won me over.

Pros: easy to find despite remote location, beautiful views of the lake directly from the cottages, tasty and reasonably priced food, friendly and helpful staff.

Cons: my room only had one working outlet, which was in the bathroom. Hundreds of small ants in the bathroom and all over the floor of the room.

Room Tip: Room 1 is off to the side and quiet.

It has been awhile since I stayed at Fish Eagle but I love this place and I have recommended to friends. The cottages are quaint , modest but have all the things you need, the restaurant is the same , simple, friendly, unassuming and this is the best part - reasonable food and drink prices ... fantastic. Nothing is too much for the staff, the beach is deserted and this is a haven if you want to get away from the world but have good service, good tasting food , lovely beach and although the staff are there they let you get on with being quiet and enjoying the surroundings. A gem worth the visit ....

This is a place I like to come to when I really want to relax. Fish Eagle Bay Lodge is a little and cosy lodge situated by lake Malawi. Simple little cottages, but very nice. Friendly staff, Camile, Kika and Stanley, are very friendly and helpful. Have stayed here twice and both these time we were the only guests -- very peaceful! Basic food and a limited menu, a little disappointing.

We loved it there! We intended to stay 2 night but squeezed in a third night because we did not want to leave. The place is built in a simple but very attractive style that blends in very well with its surroundings. We really felt at home in our little cottage. And the staff, Stanley and Kika, were sooo friendly and helpful! Last but not least, Bonny and Clyde, the lodge's Cocker Spaniels, were an enrichment to our stay :-).

We stayed for three nights on the way from Tanzania to Zambia. The place is off the beaten track on very rough a road. Having booked in advance and reconfirmed just days before we arrived the camp was not still expecting us! Location on the lake is good and the rondaval had a good view of the water. However, hot water was always an real issue, cold shower on arrival and we had to ask several times for the water to be heated for us. The bed was okay and linen reasonable. The food was basic and menu limited (some options like chicken not even available), fish option was the best choice of course. The waiter was always very helpful but management lacking and never made himself known if he was even there. The whole place is grubby (old bird droppings on all the furniture, grounds unkept, maintenance not attended to) with an overall air of neglect across the whole place which is a real shame as the potential is there. No loungers or beach chairs (we had to drag dirty cane chairs from the lounge so we could sit outside our rondarval), and no way to enjoy the beach and no water activity on offer.
