Kihanga served me a most wonderful and unforgettable week.

The location, rooms and staff are all without fault.

It is perfectly placed on the island with direct access to a stunning and private beach which one never tires of waking up to.

The atmosphere and ambience is excellent, very chilled out and mostly owing to the attentive staff.

The food too is fantastic. Very fresh with enough variety and an impressive selection of fresh fish each night.

The rooms are stunning, luxurious but still homely.

After staying in other parts of the Island I would thoroughly recommend Kichanga as the first port of call in anyone's visit to the island.

A beautiful, charming place, very different from the chain hotels of this world.
Small villas, almost on the Indian Ocean, with fantastic views and the sound of the sea to put you to rest.
Nice main house, built in a traditional way, with dining area on one side and bar and sitting area on the other.
Very friendly staff, never far from a laugh or a joke.
Food (fruits, vegetables, grilled fish and meat) was slightly "up and down", sometimes delicious and sometimes a little bit overgrilled (but that might of course be a question of personal taste).
As the owners are Italian, could there possibly be just a shade more influence from their cuisine ?
The friendly breakfast chef, making pancakes and omelettes, must have a special star.
All in all, a very nice place, wonderfully relaxing and well worth the cost and the long journey (it took us 20 hours door to door).

Very friendly and professional staff. Beautifully situated about 1 hours drive from Stonetown. Lots of atmosphere. You feel welcome as from day one and they really try to accommodate you. You sleep well and eat very good food, judging from experience one of the very best lodges on the eastern coast! Well and fresh kept beach. Nice walks along the beach but make sure you bring shoes suitable also for bathing. Washing and laundry services excellent.

we have just today returned to uk from zanzibar having stayed here at the lodge for 4days. with my husband and three teenagers..wish we could have stayed longer. loved the place.Staff very friendly, food excellent even if the breakfast was the same each day.
very relaxing, beach and sea beautiful, pool very handy,
only drawback was the heat in the room at night but hey ho.

We enjoy our stay in Kichanga Lodge because we found in this quiet place an authentic and natural architecture, with all confort. The place isolate with her private beach preserve intimity and friendly contacts, of all at the tea time !!!
People who work in the lodge were very kind, and our son of 7 years old was always welcomed.
Buffet of the breakfast and dinner was good. But it was so slowly for the service of the lunch !

Room Tip: Room on the garden was very quiet.

Our first impression of Kichanga wasn't great: we were shown to a room that was dirty and extremely hot and humid even with all windows open. We were offered another room.... but its ceiling fan was loose and rattled all through the night so no sleep there either. The next day they fixed the fan and all was good. We made various complaints about these things to the staff and also several requests to help us arrange activities etc. Every time they were very helpful and very pleasant - they make the place what it is. The staff speak great english too. The italian owner was there and really went out of his way to make sure all his guests were happy. He even helped us out when the kite surfing centre we'd booked with wouldn't accept credit cards (there's nowhere to get cash nearby) - he came along and paid for us and let us put it on our hotel bill.
Food was good but not spectacular. Lovely fresh fish, but a lack of variety overall. Very nice beach and secluded location, but the flip side is if you want to visit a lot of other parts of the island it will get expensive as you'll need taxis to go anywhere and they're not cheap. Oh, and take swimming shoes if you can as there are sea urchins in the water.

Room Tip: Just keep asking to change until you get a good one :-)

super transfer supplied by lepord tours to a warm welcome at kirchanga. Bungalow made a great headquaters, big bed shower and loo, all bedecked with flowers. not luxury but more than adequate.Fantastic beach and beautifull blue sea,and warm. The food was plentyfull and good if a bit samey. Bar and lounge area very nice and not overpriced. However it is the staff who really make the difference, allways happy and smiling, nothing to much trouble, George in particular was fantastic. A visit to the rock restraunt is a must..seafood to die for. trips to see the columbus monkeys and a visit to Stonetown were both worthwhile. Yes we will be going back , a very restfull holiday.our visit was october2011.

Room Tip: sea view are front row, we garden sea view behind
