We stayed here for 1 night & was shocked to see such a filthy room. As soon as we walked in we saw the largest black stains on the cream carpet ever!! There was mold everywhere especially around the windows. Dirty walls, something living behind the kids bed - didn't look too long. Then during in the evening I pulled the curtains & the hooks came out. & we had millions of little flies hovering around our outside lamp. In which these flies got in our room too. :/ wasn't happy at all.
The location of this hotel is lovely on rutland water & all the service received at reception & breakfast was good. They jus need to pay a lot more attention to the cleanliness of their rooms!!!!

Beautiful evening, so decided to have 'a meal by some water' and visited this Hotel. Nobody at the bar when we arrived, but a waiter eventually turned up. No smile, no 'good evening' ; the wasps he was chewing obviously did not suit. Ordered a J2O and a pint of shandy. The opened bottle of J2O and a glass were plonked on the bar, with no attempt to pour the drink. My partner asked for ice - which had not been offered - and which was grudgingly provided. We said that we intended to eat, but were not offered a menu, and sour face walked off without a word. We drank up and left, as we were not prepared tp put up with such rudeness and lack of service. A shame, as the setting is really very pleasant.

My wife & I stayed only 1 night as we had been touring. The hotel appears to have been developped from a Stables probably connected to a stately home. Extensions have been done for most bedrooms. The situation is idyllic, perched on the end of Rutland Water in glorious isolation. We also had good weather so it was perfect. We would like to come again to investigate the district. Food & service were fine, both breakfast & dinner. Excellent value and a very peaceful stay.

Room Tip: Reckon the extra for a lake view is worth it.

We stayed here for a Birthday treat in a double room with balcony and lake view. The view was lovely but cleanliness not up to standard with cobwebs and dead spiders on the floor. We had booked to have our evening meal at the hotel and were greated by one of the most unhelpful and grumpy waiters I've ever met. He showed us to our table and then returned with bread rolls that he threw onto our plates, not even bothering to ask if we would like bread or if we had a preference to what kind we would like. The main courses ranged from £16 - £19.00 which didn't include a side plate of vegetables. At this price you would think you would get a side dish of some sort in with the price. Breakfast was buffet style, the scrambled eggs were over cooked and Hash browns non existent. Coffee was served from a flask and weak. It's such a pity that this hotels standards have been allowed to deteriorate with bog standard food and rude unpleasant staff to serve you. The views and location are lovely and with proper leadership and management this hotel could be amazing

Yesterday I took my family to have lunch at the Normanton Park Hotel restaurant, having made a reservation there a few days before. After enquiring at reception where we should go we were told that lunch was being served in the conservatory today and that we should go and wait in the lounge/bar where someone would come and show us to our table.
After waiting in the bar for a good 15mins with no one coming I went back to reception and we were finally shown to our seats in an almost completely empty room by a very grumpy waiter. we nearly left at that point and I wish we had because after that it was all down hill. Not one of the three or four different waiters that served us smiled or made us feel welcomed. Far from it we were made to feel like we were intruding - they appeared to be setting up for a wedding reception.
As for the food, it was average, four of us ordered chips with our meals but no one asked us if we wanted any sauces and when we did ask for some it took a very long time to arrive. At the end of the meal we were not even asked if we had enjoyed our food, all in all we were made to feel very uncomfortable and as if we were in the way. If they had not wanted this booking why not just ring and cancel it or not take it to begin with.

Fab location with Juliette balcony over looking the Water. Very good value at the deal we got.
But poor housekeeping and very very average breakfast-coffee like water and awful porridge.
Staff all tried but they need someone in charge and setting some standards-could be a real winner.
Clearly focussed on weddings and functions

The location is outstanding pleasant gardens and surroundings enhanced by stunning views. I've stayed there quite a few times and always enjoyed it until recently. The food service and presentation has nosedived, Unfortunately my colleague and I were presented with badly cooked, substandard food. The side salad was old and the coleslaw had clearly been left out for hours before being served and smelled particularly unhealthy. The battered fish wasn't properly cooked and the chips were re-heats. When we complained we were told we wouldn't have to pay for it!
However, the next morning my colleague had an extra charged for "room service" for some reason and was charged for drinks he'd paid cash over the bar for.
Breakfast was fine - must have been a different chef!
The rooms could have been cleaner.
It's a shame that such a beautiful hotel is so mismanaged.
