“Wonderful family!”
Reviewed 20 May 2013

We stayed with the family for 2 nights in May 2013. Halil, Pero, Fatih and Aylin were very welcoming and made us feel a part of the family. We really enjoyed learning more about Kurdish culture and village life and appreciated everyone's patience with our attempts at speaking Kurdish. And the food was phenomenal, the best we've had in Turkey! We would highly recommend this experience to anyone.

My 8 year old son and I just returned from Yuvacali and had a wonderful time. The families there were amazingly warm and genuine. Pero our host mom was fantastic and worked like crazy to make our stay perfect. The food was all homemade and most of it was grown right there. We spent time in Urfa, Nemrud and Harran and Omer did a great job shuttling us around. I would definitely go back and hope to sometime soon.

Our short two night stay at Yuvacali have left a big impression! Our host family were so welcoming and made us feel very at home- despite our lack of Turkish or Kurdish. It was amazing to have the opportunity to witness everyday village life. The setting was so peaceful and calming that we could hardly bear the noisy city that we travelled onwards to. It is definitely our most unique and heartwarming experience of our many Turkish adventures.

We loved staying with this wonderful family. It was such an authentic time with the Kurdish people in Turkey. Experiences like watching Pero milk the cows with Haiil's help holding the cows head; watching Aylin and Pero prepare one of the fantastic meals we ate including Gozleme, Cacik and Emek; learning to make flat bread with Pero; visiting the pre-school; picking cotton in the fields; sleeping under the stars on the roof; knitting with Pero; and learning about the community from Fatih and Faruk were certainly the highlight and most authentic part of our 5 week trip to Turkey. We continued with Omir as our driver through southeast Turkey. The only thing I would have changed is to stay longer in Mardin rather than spending a night in Midyat.

Our homestay in Yuvacali was truly a unique experience: we were treated like we had always known the family we stayed with; we have seen authentic scenes of everyday life; we ate home-grown fruits and vegetables which truly taste like they should and not like the plastic ones you find in supermarkets all over Europe, and yogurt made from milk just milked from the family's cows; we slept under the stars and the moonlight with an amazing view of Mount Nemrud at the horizon...I would truly recommend this experience to anyone who enjoys trips off the beaten track!

We met a wonderful family, learned a lot about the life of the people of Yuvacali and other Kurdish villages, had incredible food that you can not find in restaurants. Making bread and milking the sheep were also very interesting experiences, as was sleeping on the rooftop. From the city life to the night spent under the stars at Yuvacali with Pero, Halil and Fatih there is quite a difference.
We would definitely go again.

While we didn't do the home stay, aAlison arranged our whole trip to Sanliurfa - booking our stay at a locally run hotel and the sending us off on a day of temple tours, with a splendid guide, who knew all the odd places to visit and served us lunch made by his wife on the side of a hill watching the sheep and goats. We saw several sacred sites including a very old and astonishing temple to Sin, the ancient Sumerian Moon god who was worshipped well into the tenth century. We traipsed through Harran, full of beehive houses, and saw the remians of the oldest Islamic University, hiked up a hill to see one site and saw seven other hills in the distance with their own sacred monuments and concluded the day at gobeckli tepe - for some reason listed in Trip Advisor under "potbelly hill". A truly remarkable experience. And all run by locals and benefitting locals. Nomad Tours has other day trips - but it just seems as if Allison millwork with you until you find what you need. See the real turkey and travel nomad!

Room Tip: Talk to Allison about your concerns and Nomad Tours will find a way to help.
